The dark-haired receptionist asked if I was already a patient. When I said no, I questioned why that mattered--and she told me that if I was a patient, they would still see my children anyway. She then went on to say the dentist would basically use it as some sort of "write-off." That explanation made absolutely no sense and felt very questionable. We rearranged our schedule and waited months for this appointment, only to be turned away at the door with no prior notice and a confusing, dismissive explanation. Poor communication and unprofessional handling all around. I would not recommend this office.

I suppose I was born into this; my family has been going to Back Mountain Dental through a few name changes and the tenure of the previous dentist, so I've been lucky to have excellent dental care with a neighborhood-oriented staff. For instance, on my last visit alone, they saved me time, money and the frustration of anesthesia by salvaging part of a previous filling and not applying a product once we discussed more of my symptoms. No upselling, easy-to-understand and work with billing procedures, and the superpower to figure out any changes in your insurance with minimal effort (even though you put your new card in a 'safe' place). They treat you like family, but not the ones who are always running late; these guys stick to their schedule. And one added note, as one of my friends mentioned dreading their upcoming trip to their dentist: I think 'chairside' manner might be thrown to the wolves when considering dentistry, it seems optional. Doctor DeFinnis is as "cool as the other side of the pillow" when it comes to explaining things and helping you feel comfortable, relaxed, and optimistic about your plan, which isn't the norm, I guess. They'll encourage you to floss, have personalized recommendations and helpful suggestions but operate in a judgement-free zone. I originally set up an appointment for a cleaning and the technician was wonderful and very sweet. When the younger Dr. Brand can in to check my teeth I I was very impressed with his mannerisms, friendliness. I had recently chipped a front tooth and a back tooth broke off the same day my regular dentist retired. (Go figure) I made an appointment with Dr. Brand to repair the chip and properly fix the tooth that had broken. I have to say he was wonderful, and his staff was wonderful! Extremely professional! The staff is very friendly, and Dr. Cohen was very flexible and understanding. I had new impressions taken and he continued the treatment with the braces I already had. He accommodated the price and settled a payment plan for me because I couldn't pay the full amount right away. He knows what he's doing! I saw results right away. I started with Cohen in October 2013 and by May 2014 my smile looked freaking amaziiiiinnng! ( and btw still does) I had my retainers right after and I just recently had them changed after 3 years using them. Dr. Cohen and his team are outstanding. Their scheduling is very accommodating too, I live in New York now and when I quickly go back to PA I call the office 3 to 4 days before and they schedule me for the day I'm going.
