We adopted a cat (Tammy) from the shelter and she is a little princess. The staff was very friendly, supportive and very through in the placement of her. They did a home visit and we passed. I think a home visit is essential to be sure that the pet will be safe and protected. Thanks again for TammyII!! read more

Cheryl acts unprofessional and tells someone with a sick toddler running a fever that she can put her child in the car for the 2 hour ride when the lady calls to cancel her appointment. Apparently she can tell the mother that because she's a nUrSe. A disgrace to all the nurses that do understand. I do not recommend until she is no longer the manager. She should be ashamed of herself. read more

It was an easy adoption process and all of the workers were beyond kind and caring. You could tell the cats are cared for and nurtured.

Extremely rude. Their website is not updated with "available cats" for adoptions. FYI the cats on the website are not available, they are currently going through the adoption process (good for those kitties!) and are just for show. Walked in and looked like they had available cats but was disappointed that the cats "on show" were unavailable. I asked how to apply and was told I have to call every day to see if they have available cats, when they don't even pick up the phone. They told me that they have cats coming down from "upstairs" what ever that means. Very unprofessional and I felt unwelcomed for wanting to apply there to adopt a cat! read more

I am so glad to see another review of EXTREMELY RUDE in YELP. This past April, I found a cat outside, decided to take her in & care for her, try to get her fixed. But there weren't any openings before she had kittens. They scheduled an appointment for the next clinic but unfortunately she had a litter one week prior. When discussing the SPAY A MOMMY program, I was told that I could recind the kittens & could get the mom back. But they wanted to take her & the kittens, fix her right away, wanted her to come to the clinic without them (kittens needed her every 2hrs, not feasible). I finally decided to keep her until they could be weaned because 2 workers couldn't come up with the same story. I applied with the Dept of Agriculture's Population Control Program for a $25 neuter but never responded. In the meantime, I cared for the kittens, making sure they ate every 2 hrs. New people bought my building & started evicting & raising rents by $700. I won my eviction but still eventually had to leave because of the fire chief who had previously been dismissed from a job for "personal misconduct". The director whom is supposed to be a licensed nurse treated me like garbage for trying to reclaim her after finding her up for sale on their Facebook page in August when I still had an apartment & had won the eviction but a "friend" of mine who does fundraising had already recinded her with her kittens & $50 instead of actually having in foster like she told me the day before I found her on the SCHS's Facebook page in a cage. Although I filed a police report the day I went to Claremont, went to the courts & Legal Aid, I was given a NO TRESPASS ORDER at my apartment in Newport (after only trying to reclaim her once. I am on disability & also told them that I was upgrading my "pet therapy" letters to include my cats. My "friend" leaves her cats outside all winter long and claims to be rescuing cats with SCHS. Although they are supposed to be "no-kill", they should have more training on how to treat people, especially the director who is a licensed nurse. They could have worked with me, tried to find a foster instead of trying to make me look bad for helping a cat which I found outside, un-neutered. They couldn't help before she had kittens to sell in their window which is only staffed by un-trained volunteers. I was the one who tok the cat in and cared for her when nobody else did. They came right into my home, tried to make it look like they were helping me move while all the while they were looking for the kittens to sell in Claremont. The director is a ride, inconsiderate person who doesn't care until it makes her cash. By the time I was able to take it to court, she had been adopted out in around September 23 so I lost my WRIT OF REPLEVIN. The woman needs to be stopped. I didn't need a NO TRESPASS ORDER, threatening emails or a certified letter telling me to stop contacting her volunteers, one of whom I have attended church with for 12 years. They could have handled it differently and hope I didn't lose my apartment partially because they knew about the kittens in the first place . I'll never forget how I was thrown out of my apartment after they found out about the kittens, taking them to Claremont to be sold on Facebook. They only made time for the cat after she had the kittens, not when they could have prevented it. Now I look like a monster for an incompetent nurse who doesn't want to look bad herself with her rude volunteers. Is throwing cats back outside in the bitter cold state of NH rescuing them from someone who takes them into their home & does the same thing? It's pretty cold outside in NH but volunteers at the SCHS think outdoor cats are more cared for than indoor ones. My "friend's" cats all live outdoors all winter long. It's really cold out there. I don't think these people should be trusted.​ read more

I am so sad to write this - I find some of the practices questionable. Too sad to see a shelter that could do so much - but there is serious concerns about the choices and decisions made. I don't think they would hurt an animal -but there are problems. I was very uncomfortable and concerned after dealing with them. The person that was some kind of big boss there went on a weird rant and made no sense. She was a babbling brook of bewildering statements. Their 'foster home' was a lady that was so sketchy - she owned businesses but none had official names or were official or what ever so hard to even follow. She claimed so much expertise but I found her lacking in ability to read an animal's body language. That area really needs more choices for homeless animals. read more
