Chas found this spot while vacationing here and loved the area so much that he rented an apartment nearby and flys down often from New Orleans to stay there. We started with some Mezcalina's and fresh house fried tortillas with salsa's. The chipotle salsa and the avocado with cilantro were a nice change of pace from your normal salsa verde y rojo. The chips were clearly freshly fried and tasted great even without the salsa's. Our appetizers were a baked Camembert with fruit and tortillas, a sopa azteca, and fresh tuna tostadas. The Camembert was quite good as was the soup, but these tuna tostadas were one of the best appetizers I've ever eaten. Everything on them worked so well together and you could add a splash of soy sauce and it was even better! I'd order these as my meal at 90% of the spots in the world and leave happy! Our entrees were a grilled pichana as well as a lobster pizza from the wood fired oven. I love cooking pichana and don't see it often on menus when I go out so that was a nice treat. The temp was perfect for what we asked for and it was seasoned well. The potatoes that came with it had excellent flavor as well. I could take or leave the corn haha When Chas told me he was eating pizza in Mexico with lobster on it I said "dude, what are you doing with your life?" He said just wait til you try it. He ... was right. The lobster was delicious and buttery, the sauce had great flavor, and the cheese (which was not mozzarella) worked surprisingly well. I will say that I normally like my pizza crispy and this was missing that element...but the flavor more than made up for it. Add on to all of this the fact that you're surrounded by a beautiful pool, swings over the sand, a nice bar, and the owners dog is always nearby to say hi to haha. One of the easiest ones yet. Coco's Cabanas in Playa Del Carmen - Didn't Suck!

My husband got sirloin tacos off the rotisserie. I got a pollo plate. So good! We also added on guac, chips and a potato taco. Everything was great. Will come again. No gimmicks, just seriously good tacos. The tacos were packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and served hot and fresh every time. You can taste the quality and the technique especially in the way the meat is cooked and carved. Everything felt simple but done right, which honestly is what makes a taco stand out. The atmosphere is lively and busy (for good reason), but service moves quickly and efficiently. It feels like the kind of place locals actually eat at, not just a tourist trap with hype. We fully intended to try different taco spots around Playa del Carmen... but after our first visit, we couldn't resist coming back. When a place makes you change your food itinerary, you know it's worth it. If you're in Playa and debating whether it lives up to the hype it does!!

Casual elegant attire meaning "sneakers/tennis shoes or dress sandals, dress shirts with short sleeves or collared shirts. No sleeveless shirts or flip-flops. Long pants required for men." Darker, moodier vibe. Open kitchen with fire pits visible so you can see the kitchen in action. While not on the menu, bread is provided at the beginning of the meal. Housemade bread that came with a beet based sauce. I didn't mind the earthiness of the beet but I think a butter would have paired more nicely. Oted for almost every seafood item on the menu, all cooked over flame. Oysters came with parm cream and citrus butter; tasty but a decent amount of shell bits. Smoked mussel toast with sea urchin dressing, peanut ceviche, and avocado was delicious and creamy, but the toast was a bit too burnt. Mayan octopus with pea and lime puree, smoked chiles, roasted chard, and mixed leaves featured a well cooked, tender octopus. Short rib is cooked for 12 hours and plated with a green plantain puree. The short rib was actually deconstructed from the bone with a rich and savory flavor.

It was restaurant experiences like this that truly show that Secrets Moxché is a cut above the rest. Service was lovely! But let's get into the good part - the food: BONE MARROW: It's actually insane how much bone marrow they give you?! Like four whole things? We were a bit full off the richness of it so I'd love to see them size down the portions, but it's truly a generous and luxurious offering. STEAK: I love that you get to pick your cut of meat, how you want it done (braised, grilled or roasted), what side you want, and which sauce. It's truly a create-your-own experience! I was very happy with my braised short-ribs - they melted in my mouth and paired perfectly with the mashed potatoes. BAKED ALASKA: This is a show stopper! We were celebrating our engagement here this night, and lighting the Baked Alaska on fire really felt so special. PASSION FIZZ: This was a bit too tangy for me, but may be great for someone else. OLD FASHIONED: Classic, nothing crazy - but my partner enjoyed it.

We were…read moreseeking to have 2 first-class dinners while in the Riviera Maya (the other experience was at Benazuza). We chose La Marea after researching it on Tripadvisor, Google and elsewhere, looking at photos and reading credible reviews. La Marea did not fail to deliver on a perfect dining experience. The restaurant is located inside the Viceroy Riviera Maya hotel. It was really hard to find, but that made the experience all that more enjoyable. The Viceroy is the definition of a hidden gem. We were received in a palapa in the reception area of this beautiful property. It was night and the the hotel employee accompanied us through lighted pathways through the hotel's grounds that are covered in lush foliage. The restaurant is located near the water's edge and sits above the hotel's lovely pool and overlooking the bar. The open air restaurant is very, very romantic and well-accoutered with comfortable seating, fine flatware and unique pottery. The menu and wine menu are impressively large, with many Mexican influences. There were so many choices on the regular menu that we could hardly decide what we wanted; they also have a tasting menu, so to have the most diverse dining experience, we chose to have that. I would like to say what great service we received from our waiter Sergio and all the other wait staff and hotel employees (they really make you feel like a VIP), and I would also like to praise Chef Carlos Zamora's creative dishes: they all show the incredible quality of Mexican cuisine in the hands of an artist. Just for fun, we had a coatimundi come into the restaurant from the surrounding trees while we were dining, which was just so amusing to see (I don't think it was his first time). If you want to celebrate a special occasion, or just want to celebrate life, please make a reservation and dine here!
