The restaurant provides bread and a little tapas (or pintxos) to get you started. This was fresh crusty bread with a soft fluffy center and a small place of sausages. Sidre is the drink to order! I think a whole large (wine bottle size) bottle is only 8€. It's fun to watch it being poured from a height by your server to aerate the beverage for enhanced flavor. It's like apple juice but tart, sour, and so refreshing. The salad of butter lettuce and thinly sliced sweet onions with olive oil and vinegar was perfection. It was so fresh and the dressing was perfect. The main course, the T-bone steak for two was sheer excellence! The steak came on a sizzling platter and was served with potato frites, perfectly simple but delicious! The steak platter continued to sizzle throughout lunch, so the precut steak pieces could be seared or cooked longer if that was desired. The meat is served medium-rare automatically, so the sizzling stone allows you to adjust the cooking of the steak after its served. This was by far the best meal I had in all of Spain. After dinner the server brought over pacharrán shots, an herbal plum-based after dinner aperitif to help with digestion. It's served in frosted shot glasses. We had one and thanked him for it, then maybe we had one more. What a way to end a great meal-with a buzz. This place is a little pricey, but very much worth it. So glad we came here and dined. It's looks humble but the food is the star of the show here!

La Gabarra was the perfect place at the perfect time! The owners were very patient and helped us with our selection. We shared a T-bone steak that was beautifully cooked and delicious, a green salad, and a bottle of wine. We finished the meal with a nice cheese and jam board... If we are in Bilbao again, we will most certainly return to this restaurant! Great food, simply prepared, kind and friendly owners... just can't say enough nice things about this restaurant!

I seen this place was well rated and literally across the road and offered the steak dinner I was after so I headed across. Being from Scotland I was a little early for dinner at 8pm but was happy to sit at the bar with a beer until good to go, I hadn't sat for 10 mins before bring offered a table, a lot earlier than I should have I'd suggest to their credit. I sat down and ordered the nachos and a rib eye steak for main. The nachos are very different to what is served in Scotland of course so different to my usual but very good, much better than Scottish version of Doritos with lumps of cheese, salsa and guacamole but then that wouldn't be difficult! The main was brilliant. Not the best I've had but then that is reserved for the wagyu steak I had this time last year in the far East so not fair to compare to be honest. I managed to squeeze in a dessert as hadn't eaten all day and to be honest when it came I didn't want to disturb it as it looked so good on the plate! The flavours didn't disappoint either, simple banana pancakes it's seems aren't all that simple, presented exceptionally and tasting the same I can thoroughly recommend coming here. Great atmosphere, cool area and fantastic food.

As part of mission txuleta quest we have been hitting a decent amount of asadores in the area…read more Mostly reqs from chefs of various places in the area, one day my friend decides we need to hit the sidra tradition as well...so the game plan is now to find places that do both. On a whim we are headed back from Larrabetzu when my friend starts chatting the taxi driver up. What does he feel the best place for said combo would be? He pulls over to the side of the road and tells us about this joint in the south of town. So next day we head down to what is a very blue collar neighborhood. It actually reminds me of Hospitalet on the south of Barcelona. Same vibe and aesthetics. Just exchange Catalan for Euskera. From the outside it is just another standard neighborhood bar. The front is a few old locals with their dog drinking beer. We talk to the bartender and she then proceèds to take us down the hall and into a much bigger room which is the dining hall and the two large barrel taps for cider. Bingo. So my friend starts to hit the cider hard and you do the traditional holing of your glass over a bucket and mind the tap to send a stream of cider across a distance aerating and frothing the cider as it goes. Pretty awesome They a do a set menu which sounded great and we didnt have to think Morcilla, txistorra, tortilla de bacalao, a giant txuketon and then few desserts. It's a bustling dining room and the food then starts flowing. Everything was delicious and it was great to see a place where i was the only non local. Our driver did us a solid and i got to see an aspect of the city that doesnt make the guides or "top lists". Food is culture and this place had it in spades
