I took my dog there to be boarded. She's a senior 10 lb Havanese. They told me she needed to go through a temperament test. They did not describe what the test would consist of. They put her in a cage for 30 minutes to see how she would react. The cage was above the floor, on top of another cage so she had no space to move around. It was the equivalent of putting a dog in an animal shelter. I decided to not board her there. I had a feeling if I had, she would have spent almost all of her time inside the cage and would not have been given opportunities to go outside, except to relieve herself. I didn't see adequate space for dogs to run, just lots of cages. read more

Finding a new boarding facility for my dog was a must when I just moved here. It's hard to find a place you trust. They were great! They walked me through the kennels, they have great prices, and I don't have to worry about my dog while I'm gone. Do not take your animals to Suggs! They need to be reported for animal cruelty! I was a caregiver for a very important person to the Augusta area (who I will not mention); she passed away several years ago, and so did her dog. And, all of this happened a week after taking her dog to Suggs' kennel. It was the Thanksgiving holiday, and she had to take her dog there because she was going to visit her family, and they would not allow her to bring the dog. So, we dropped the dog off, and I knew something was off. Suggs was overbooking animals to stay there. I am not going to go into further details, but I will say this, the dog passed away three days later, and the owner, well, she died almost two weeks after that. She begged me not to say anything, but it is about time that I did. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO SUGGS! read more

I would like to start by saying I visited Suggs Kennel while looking for a new place to board my dogs. We were previous customers of Animal House, but that went south really quickly - the prices always changed at pick up time, staff was usually impatient and seemingly annoyed by any questions/concerns/requests, I even got a call during one visit (for which I was out of state) that my boy had to be taken to the emergency vet because his breathing was irregular. As it turns out, and $250 later, he had ingested too much water at one time, likely because he was overheated - give you 1 guess as to who's fault that was; and lastly, he was bitten and I was never notified; I discovered it on my own. So, needless to say, I had to find a new place, and Suggs popped up on Yelp. When I first visited (without the dogs), the staff was very friendly and patient with all of my questions and concerns, they were even gracious enough to walk me around the kennel to see where my dogs would be spending their time. For what it's worth, it is clean and well kept. The staff is great and they are more than willing to provide check ups when I call in. I brought them back for the temperament test, and we were good to go. It's been 3 visits, for 2-3 days each, and although they are seemingly happy when I pick them up, I noticed that both of them smelled bad and had this yucky, green discharge coming from their eyes each time. I simply took them home, bathed them, and attributed it to possible allergens or irritants in the kennel (cleaning supplies, etc.)...the redness and irritation usually subsided within a few days. Well, unfortunately, they won't be going back, because this last time, (July 15th-18th), I picked them up, of course they smelled bad, and the green discharge was there. I took them home and bathed them, only to notice that my boy's eye wasn't clearing up....I wish I could post a picture, but I don't see the option...and it's really bad. On a sidenote, they were fed at the wrong times, and not given any of their provided snacks (which probably bothers me more than them). Anyway, this isn't necessarily a bad review, but rather a heads up for any potential customers with little doggies that may be prone to allergic reactions, or irritations. read more

My sister and I have been bringing our malteses for awhile now for grooming. The price is great and so is the grooming. Be sure and get any knots out of their hair or they will charge extra. I have never boarded my dog here. read more

We loved this place! We were bringing our two dogs in from Hawaii and they had a long flight (9 hours on a plane plus 2 hours in the back of the truck in their kennels) and the ladies at the kennel knew it. They decided to give us the larger pen so they would have some additional space to stretch after enduring their arduous trip! I showed up and they were all ready to receive us so the transition was smooth and effective. They promptly labeled all their food and medicine and told me I could come see them whenever I wanted. They were going to be there over two weeks. I was able to go see them, take them for walks, play with them in their yard area several times which made them happy! Suggs was recommended about 5.5 years ago while I was in the hospital and I have never looked for another kennel. Anytime I need boarding services in Augusta I ALWAYS go to Suggs. This place is an Augusta original. They've been around for 50+ years and will be around for another 50+. Anyone looking for a quality kennel, groomer, doggie day care, etc. needs to head here. I've only just started using this kennel, but so far, so good!! The facility is clean and well kept. They only had a few empty runs and the dogs that were in there seemed happy. Lots of wagging tails. The staff I have experienced so far have been great. I have a trouble child. I adopted him earlier this year and someone at sometime did something to make him very leery of people. He isn't a bad dog, but he has to be handled just so or he can be very hard to handle. He has already been kicked out of one kennel because of this. Because he was "too hard to handle". These people were very understanding and accommodating. They even said I could bring them and leave them a while every so often so they can get use to the place a people. My furbabies mean the world to me and I am very excited I found this place. read more

Suggs was recommend to me a few years ago when we we're going to AZ. We left our three Shih-tzu's there for a week. They have a place where they can be indoor or go into a fenced in run outdoors. I really liked this, plus the area was big enough for all four of my shih-tzu's could stay together comfortable. So this January when we needed to use a kennel again there was no question where we we're going to put them. Unlike last time we stayed in town this time going and visiting our babies everyday. Seeing the everyday operations impressed me more. It showed me they cared for the pets they kenneled. The kennel although full never smelled like pee or poop. In fact no matter what time of the day I dropped in on them I never say any pee or poop. This kennel was clean!!!!! They played with the animals and encouraged me to come see my babies since I was staying in town. I will never have a need for another kennel, because I have Suggs.
