I have three shih tzus that have been going to this daycare facility for about 2 years now. Since Manager Mia has came to this location we have seen a lot of positive changes. My biggest thing with care for my dogs is communication. Mia and her team are clear on that and tend to our dogs needs. They keep it mind the wellbeing of each dog which I truly appreciate. Our dogs are excited to come to the Animal House. I want to say thank you to the staff for being attentive and welcoming to our pets. We had a recent disappointing and unfortunate experience at the Animal House regarding my dog's grooming. On Friday the 8th, we had an appointment at 10:00 for a full grooming. When my husband dropped off our dog, he was informed it would take 2-3 hours since they were running behind. At 2:30 (4.5 hours later), he called to check in. At this time, the person on the phone frantically said "oh he's just getting in the bath now." At 4:30, we decided to finally check in person. When we arrived, we expressed our concern at waiting 6.5 hours for an appointment that was at 10:00. After checking in, the unprofessional front desk first told us she didn't have any idea since she just got there but finally got up to ask someone. She told us he would be done soon but was being "rambunctious." We expressed how this definitely made sense as he had been waiting several hours and is only a 7 month old, social golden retriever. Once we finally had our dog come out, no sincere or genuine apology was given. Instead, just a comment about how he was rambunctious. At this time, it came out that they mixed up dogs and had ours in the day care area in a private room, where he was forgotten about. We assume until we called due to the frantic response on the phone. No explanation or apology was given for this huge mistake. However, it further explained his behavior during the grooming. During the payment time, we were charged $85. The amount on the website stated $50. The only explanation provided was "it's outdated." Once we finally got our dog back, more than 6.5 ours lately, he looked like barely much hair was cut off...definitely not $85 worth. We completely understand mistakes happen but expected a professional response along with some sort of restitution. Instead, we were greeted with unprofessionalism and nothing to make up for this negative experience. We left our number and were told a manager would call first thing on Tuesday morning. Almost 2 weeks and 2 emails later, we have yet to be contacted...they have shown NO interest in changing this situation, apologizing, explaining, or even responding to our concerns. Next time, we will stick to Petsmart. read more

Was told the "new owners" would require a doggie daycare visit prior because I had not boarded since August of last year. He would need a "test" for his compatibility. I didn't want to have to write a poor review because I never leave bad reviews unless I've exhausted all other options. However, this facility has not called me back when I've asked on multiple occasions to have a manger please contact me. I didn't even know my dog was having issues here until I was informed during a pick up that my dog was on her second warning. I was never told about the first warning. According to the them my dog had nipped at another dog, but that was the only info I got. No other details were given. When I asked if she was being humped by another dog or if there were treats/toys involved, no one could give me an answer as to what happened. I was just told sometimes she snaps. My dog has been to doggy daycare her entire life (from 8 weeks old on- and she's almost 3 now) and has never had a problem. I'm not going to paint a picture that she's the most well behaved dog on the planet, because she's not, just like no dog is. She has her moments too; but she's been to multiple day cares throughout her life because I travel for work, and never has there been an issue because she easily adapts. My dog is well socialized and has been around other dogs her entire life and is very submissive during conflicts. Occasionally she gets overwhelmed when there's too many dogs at once, which I informed them of at the very beginning. So when I was told about her biting an employee, of course I was shocked and wanted details. If my dog is being aggressive in any way, I need to know about these things so it can be fixed. The only thing I was told was that she bit someone. Again, no details were ever given. I don't know if she drew blood or if that employee had to seek medical treatment. They said they "didn't know". I wanted to speak with a manger to try to get things sorted because clearly something is off, whether it be from my end or theirs. I asked to be called. A day goes by, no call. I phone them and ask for a manger. Manager isn't there, so I was told a manager would call me when one is available. This went on for about another week with my calling and asking to speak with a manger and being told one would call, but never did. I called again and spoke to another girl about this and she stated that she had told me about my dog biting an employee when it happened weeks prior. I'm sorry sweetie, but you did not. You dropped the ball on me when you told me about her second warning. Then she argued with me that she had in fact informed me at the time when the incident occurred. I never had received a phone call or told about it all the times I dropped her off and picked her up and I'm sorry but I would remember if someone had told me that my dog bit someone, as that's a pretty huge deal. A biting dog is not good. Again, I asked for details regarding the bite and once again, no one could tell me what all occurred during the "incident". I asked to have a manger call me and was told that one would, but no one ever did. I'm not saying this place is awful, or that I don't trust the workers there. I just don't think the employees communicate amongst each other and obviously not with their clients, and I'm beginning to wonder if they truly even watch the dogs when they're all in the play area together. If she had been watched on both occurrences, someone would have been able to tell me exactly what happened. After reading through multiple reviews, most of which are in fact good, I have still found several in which people have had similar situations happens, and they've either been told on their second warning or it comes as a shock to the them when they're told their dog isn't allowed back anymore-all while being blind-sides due to sheer lack of proper communication. It's incredibly frustrating to have to be writing something like this when it could have been prevented had I gotten a phone call like I asked. I'm sorry my $500+/ month business was not worth your time to make a simple phone call. read more

Animal House and its staff are thorough and forward thinking to ensure animals have up to date vaccinations, document what supplies you bring when boarding, keep the environment clean, and require a temperament test and 3 strike system to ensure your animal is appropriately socialized. My dog is excited when she is dropped off and comes home in a good mood when picked up. It really is a perfect place in Augusta to drop off your dog to have fun during your work day or board for your families vacation. I've usually been able to board my dog with several days notice but you should certainly call weeks ahead for boarding on major holidays. read more

I've taken my dog here twice now. Both times I've walked away positively glowing from both the service I received and how great my yorkie looks. A day after his last hair cut I kept feeling hard, small bumps on his skin. It would only be briefly, and I couldn't ever seem to find them again to actually look and see what they were. I was scared something was seriously wrong (he's 10 years old). Fast forward a week of this continually happening, and I finally found one to actually look at. They were all scabs. My little yorkie is currently covered in small scabs from the top of his scalp to his back legs from the hair cut they gave him. Now, I understand my dog will squirm a little and try to walk away, but he will not ever put up any actual resistance. I can't see anything justifying this many knicks all over his skin. I'm not saying any of them are bad enough to cause any real concern, but I feel uncomfortable and almost violated. It's just a sense of wrong. Right now I am conflicted of whether or not I could justify giving it another chance... this isn't okay. read more

Took my two miniature poodles in for a full grooming. The staff was very friendly. The shop looks nice and clean. My dogs were very well groomed and smelled so good! I loved the bows on my girl dog and the bandana on my boy dog.! Their pricing is higher than I like to pay. I always shoot for the $30-35 (per dog) range and they charged me $47 (per dog), but it's still cheaper than most places in the area and truly worth the money. read more

I am so glad that I found Animal House! I take my 2 big dogs here pretty regularly for day care and board when needed. I love how they know my girls by name and act happy to see them each time. I have used the grooming services a few times and have never been disappointed. My dogs don't require a haircut though, so hard to mess up a bath and nail cut ;) I do wish they would groom cats! read more

Any time I have inquired about a dog and how he/she did that day, they never have a real answer for me. It's usually a one word answer; either he/she did "fine" or they did "great." The staff is never able to give me a detailed description other than a few words, let alone willing to find out for me. The lack of care is disturbing. Further, the majority of the staff behind the counter is not personable. They treat you as if you are just another number, and not an actual customer. The only time they actually talk to you is if they are putting you on the schedule or letting you know your balance. It is also important to note that they have a log to sign dogs in/out but it is hardly ever used. Any time myself or a friend has tried to voice concerns, they immediately get defensive. The disorganization, lack of care, attention to detail and unprofessionalism is unacceptable. read more

I just wanted to say that I will never be bringing my dog back to Animal House for daycare or boarding. I used to take my dog every week for day care, and he loved it! Sure he came home a few times with some bites but that was pretty normal for how much dogs rough house. I boarded my dog once for two weeks and got calls pretty frequently if he wasn't drinking, had a weird cough, or had some watery eyes and it made me feel so much more comfortable knowing that people were in tuned enough with him to 1. Notice something was wrong/off, and 2. CALL ME TO LET ME KNOW. I'm not sure when the switch happened (maybe after new management?) but every daycare or boarding incident since has been a disaster. The first time I boarded him, I was told upon PICK UP that he had a huge gash in his side and they "weren't sure how he got it". How do they not realize when a tan dog is bleeding and how do they not let the owner know? The second time was when i took him for daycare and he came home with kennel cough. Again, with that many dogs around it's sometimes understandable. What made me mad though, was the fact that they had cases of kennel cough for WEEKS and didn't tell anyone or shut the place down to sanitize it until 2-3 weeks after the first case. Another $100+ vet bill. What really got me was this last time. I boarded him for a week while I was away on a work trip. When I picked him up, I noticed his eye was irritated and red but no one told me of any rough housing. I even asked what happened to his eye and the response was "allergies". I was skeptical but I took him home, cleaned up his eye and went to bed. When i woke up the next morning his eye was oozing and swollen shut. It only kept getting worse and his third eyelid was eventually covering almost his entire eye -- he couldn't see out of his right eye. I took him to the vet and he undoubtably said that it was due to trauma to the face, most likely from a dog bite, and could require surgery to fix should the medication not work. I wasn't alerted to a SINGLE incident and the fact that they had no clue what happened just shows me even more that they don't check or monitor their dogs like professionals should. He also came home basically starved and 3 pounds lighter...in a week. I used to love this place but they've gone downhill fast. We will never be coming back and I recommend you proceed with caution if you choose to take your dog here. It's the cheapest in town, but you get what you pay for. read more

I am beyond annoyed by the fact that I even have to write this review, but I feel that's it only fair to other dog owners to share my experience that started off quite good and got progressively worse - to the point where I will not be returning for any services effective today. Initially, hair cuts were to my specifications, my dogs were happy when I left and happy when I picked them up, both from grooming and overnight stays....that is until recently. Not only do they look the same when I pick them up from $80 worth of baths and haircuts, when I offer to leave a note for the things I want like a Mohawk for my boy and not to cut my girl's top knot, I'm told not to because the groomer will do "the same thing as last time" only to be completely disappointed almost to the point of pissed off when I have to swipe my card for haircuts I'm dissatisfied with. Additionally, on one overnight visit, I called the next morning to check on them and was told they were doing well and had a good night. No more than 45 minutes later I received a call asking my permission to take my dog to the vet due to labored breathing. In the same call, I was told that my dog likely had bronchitis (which he had to have contracted in less than 24 hours), or he drank too much water too fast due to being overheated; both, in my opinion, are the responsibility of the facility, but can you argue with the people who are taking care of your dogs? I told them to do whatever they needed to and I'd call back to check....long story short, I called the vet instead who told me that he had water aspiration, which is a direct result of consuming too much water too fast. Now, I'll let you decide who's fault that was. $200 + the increased fee for overnights, which I wasn't mad aware of, later and a dog high as a kite on meds he didn't need and I am pretty much done with Animal House. A month later I have an unexpected situation and I need to send them back for an overnight...I pick them up the next day, a few days later I notice scabbing on my boy's back during a bath. The scab washes off to reveal a legitimate puncture wound. He was clearly bitten at daycare and I was NEVER told. Can I prove it? No. The likelihood that that's what happened - significant. Color me pissed off again, but I have no argument only speculation. Final chance - I take them for haircuts today. Ask if I need to leave my note, per usual, I'm told no. I ask that she pay close attention to their faces because in recent visits, I couldn't even tell that they had been there. "Of course!" Is the response. Welp, I have the dogs back they both look exactly the same as when they were dropped off. So, the end of the Animal House saga has come. I will not be returning and I advise you not to if you care about the safety, well being, and grooming of your dogs. Honesty, integrity, and respect should be a given with a business like this, but perhaps they didn't get the memo. read more

My mini poodle got the summer cut and it turned out great! My only complaint is that when I dropped him off and told the groomer what I wanted, there was no hair pad sample to show exactly what length I wanted it cut. They did a good job though. read more

I wanted to give this place a 5 star because in the beginning it started all great. Although it was very expensive for all my 5 fur babies for 7 days (all chihuahuas)! Masters week was great, and they look like they had a great time! So I decided to bring them back 3 months later, when I went to Orlando for 10 days X 5 Chis @ $25 each per day. So for all that money (food not included), I thought my babies would have had better care. While on my vacation I received a call that one of my fur babies eye was draining and of course they were afraid she may have an infection and spread to other dogs. I was afraid her eye was hurt. They did offer to take her to the vet and found out it was an eye puncture!! No one knew how did this happen!!! I was given some drops from the vet and treated her eye for 3 month and the eye could not be saved! She had to have it surgically removed. So now I have a beautiful fur baby girl with one eye. Not one call to see how she is feeling, not one get well card, Not one offer to help pay the vet bill. read more

I wanted to give a 5 star review, until both of my dogs started coughing. At first I thought maybe it was something stuck in their throat, but my small one has a deep cough aka kennel cough. They are vaccinated for this, but it is still highly contagious if they are around a bunch of dogs who are not properly vaccinated. I saw a review that said the same thing happened to their pups. Maybe if they air it out a little in there or something. I should have taken more time to look into other kennels. All in all, not bringing my pups back. So sad about this. read more

I'm giving 2 stars not because they are not a good facility... I've used them since I adopted my Lab last year and when it was just her I used the daycare service often and I think the way they do things is awesome. Having a high energy dog, it's important to me that she doesn't just sit in a cage. A few months ago I adopted a shelter dog and he was obviously traumatized at some point... He has to be handled correctly or he acts out. I told them this. He passed their temperament test and has gone a few times and it's been fine as far I knew, until today. He has been kicked out. Which I get. He can be hard to handle if you don't take his needs into consideration. It's the way they handled it. I went in to pick up my dogs and they handed me a letter that said he wasn't allowed back and then they told me my total and that was that. No conversation. I run a business. And that is bad business. Sometimes a simple conversation is all it takes... So in the end, I do not recommend... Because this isn't this first time I've had customer service issues with them. read more

VERY happy that I found this place. I was worried about finding the perfect spot for my dog, and it really was a relief when I contacted Animal House. I emailed an extensive list of questions to the owner and she kindly and thoroughly answered every single one. Not only were her answers spot on, but the fact that she took the time to thoughtfully address my concerns spoke volumes about her dedication to the dog daycare/boarding business. I was a little worried about the facility being indoor, as I didn't know whether my dog would be as relaxed as he has been in outdoor daycare facilities. I needn't have been worried. When I picked him up he was wagging his tail and his face was totally relaxed and happy. Every time I have taken him back he has eagerly pranced to the door and left me for the very nice girls to take him to his play area. One of the biggest convenience bonuses of this place is their hours! As a student it was hard for me to find places that opened early enough for me to get to class on time. This place opens at 6 am! We boarded our dogs shortly after moving to Augusta. Our healthy doberman/Shepard mix started vomiting. I told them to take her to our vet. They called an hour later to tell us she had died. When we went to pick up the other dog, the receptionist could not tell us what had happened or which vet they took our dog to. She asked someone else and told us it was our vet. I never received a phone call or letter from the owner of animal house about our dog. Our vet said that she had died before she got to the clinic. I will NEVER go back to this facility. The uncaring and unprofessional manner that they do business is unacceptable. read more

I brought our dog here after moving to the area because the movers do not allow dogs to be in the house. He contracted Kennel Cough and apparently *during his stay* they realized they had an outbreak of kennel cough and did not contact me. I would have come back and gotten him if I had known. He is now very sick, I had to pay an emergency vet bill. I will never use this place ever again. The emergency vet told me they couldn't count the number of severe kennel cough cases they had had from animal house over the last week. How irresponsible of them! My dog is very sick from an illness that is usually recovered from without medicine. He is a young, very healthy dog who has never been sick. I'm disgusted that they would not call me to come get my dog. read more

They love to go there and know when we round the corner what's coming. The staff is polite and accomodating, especially the owner. The hours are the best since we travel a lot. My dog loved this place or so I thought... went all the time...It was great, my dog was tired and got to socialize. But they do have favorites and they overboard (100+ in that small location, will never show you the boarding side) and take on too many dogs for daycare. All I can say is that when they have issues they handle things very poorly. I understand that running a daycare for animals... is an "animal house".
