You will either love Sugbo Mercado, or hate it. I happen to love it. My experience was amazing! Take note, during your travels in Cebu you will hear and see "Sugbo" a lot - which translates "To walk on Water" just FYI! I had already made plans to visit Sugbo Mercado before even landing in Cebu City. I have read about it and saw YouTube videos so I came prepared. Prepared that I knew it would be super crowed (elbow to elbow), and lots of walking. So if you are not a fan of big crowds, you may think twice coming. I have to say - of all the vendors, my favorite was the deep fried clams. Think of it as fried calamari but clams. They were delicious and they came in different flavors. I got the original and the BBQ flavor. I think it cost less than $3 USD. As soon as you get here, Cebu is famous for their "lechon" roasted pig. So make sure to hit those vendors first because they run out quickly. We managed to find one last vendor that had the last two plates. The food here were pretty mixed. Everything from traditional "inihaw" grilled to BBQ, to Japanese, Korean, Chinese to main dishes of the Philippine islands. The "Cebuanos" which is a term for local residents eat rice a little different. Their rice is covered and braided with bamboo leaves and boiled in coconut water, instead of the traditional rice pot. The outcome - the rice is very fine and super tasty. To eat them, you break "Puso" in half and the locals here often eat with their hands. "Puso" pronounced "Pooo-so" is a dish that derived many years ago brought by the Malay, Indonesians and Singaporeans. I'd attempt to describe it but "Google" it instead as there are many reasons and variations how Puso came to be. Heads up - try to travel in larger groups. If you can't, then order your dish per vendor and there are places where you can eat standing up. These stand up tables are usually next to the vendors. In general though, look at all the vendor first, then go back to the ones that peeked your interest. Also, try to order your meal first, then have one of your group grab a table because it is first come first serve. It is very packed so just be patient. Sugbo Mercado is open for business from 5pm to 1am during weekends. Enjoy. Cheers!

I learned about Sugbo Mercado from a food blogger and have to say, I was not all that impressed. Though I had high expectations since the food blogger raved about how amazing the food selection was here, I can't say I found several items here that I wanted to try. We came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Lots of young people here, walking around and looking at the different vendors and many dining at the center where community tables and a main stage is set-up. I like that there is a main stage for entertainment and at first, there was a live singer, which was nice. But unfortunately, most of the night, market staff was promoting a corned beef company that was one of the vendors, so audience members would participate in games, to compete for free corned beef; and they kept making the same announcement over and over again, reminding us all we need to eat the corned beef. It was super loud and distracting, and most of all, not entertaining. Many people kept looking at each other, annoyed that we had to keep listening to this. Food selection was meh. Although they do have different kinds of cuisines here, there weren't as many diverse cuisines as I thought, especially since this is Cebu's biggest market. Many of the vendors sold a lot of the same items as other vendors here, so make a loop before committing to anything. There was also only one stand for beer, which was of course, upcharged. And only one vendor selling goods. Since we went across town for Sugbo Mercado, I can't say it was worth it. I didn't love any of the food and the constant promotion of a company on stage while everyone is just trying to enjoy their company and eat didn't seemed to be welcomed. Overall, A-OK.

This is a quaint little place whose menu revolves around their three main paella dishes - negra,…read morevalenciana, and lechon. Paella Negra is all about its squid component, hence the black color while the lechon version, as the name suggests, highlights the Cebuano favorite as it's center. The valenciana, on the other hand, has mixed seafood in it. So far, I have tried paella negra and valenciana and both are so damn good. Although I forgot to note the price of each, valenciana is the most expensive of the three varieties, at P148 for the solo meal (no drinks). If you're with a group, they also have a choice of going for a bigger serving than a solo as you could go for the bigger platter that is good for 2-3 persons or the biggest, which is good for 4-5 persons. As there is not much on the menu other than these paella dishes and some sides, it's very nice of them to allow food to be brought in from outside at no extra charge and no fuss. I was with a friend who didn't feel like having paella at that time so he ended up buying a takeout from a nearby restaurant and eating it with me at the Hala Paella. So far, my experience with their dishes has been amazing and I'll definitely go back again and again. On a side note, they used to have a stall at the Sugbo Mercado in IT Park but I haven't seen them there this week.

You walk in and they have Spanish music playing and a display of the available paella combjnations. The display looks great ans decor is festive. I went with the chicken and chorizo paella, lengua, and churros for dessert. The flavors are there for the paella, the lengua gravy tasted commonplace borderline like jollibee gravy. the churros were good though slightly undercooked imho, but at least did not taste greasy or soaked in oil. the chocolate dip was really good and i would order everything again but maybe try the different paellas.

It tastes like a really good home cooked meal. I like how they took that old-aged recipe and made it a little special by adding that spicy sesame oil! YUM! Their salads were also a big hit for me but maybe a 7 out of 10 because i've had better ones before. The ambiance is very simple and laid back. You won't be expecting to get such tasteful dishes at mere glance & most probably the only reason you dared to try it out is because you've heard too many good things about their food that you simply can't let it pass by. Their service is not that good. It's not bad but I think they can surely do much better. I say they improve a little on their service, add more to their dessert menu & they're set for the next 10yrs. Be mindful, you're outside, so yeah the mosquitoes were pretty fierce. Go early, before the sun goes down or else you'll be miserable. Ambiance: If you love nature, this is the place for you. The smell of smokiness, the sound of birds, and the (once in a while) breeze that swished through the Acacia tree leaves and vines was such a beautiful experience. Service: The staff sat us promptly. They weren't terrible, but they also weren't very friendly. They were there to do the damn job and that's what they did, lol. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but not too bad. Food: Delicious! The steaks were a great size and had such incredible flavor and were cooked as ordered with a bunch of sauteed butter and garlic cloves. We ordered some side dishes like broccoli and mac and cheese. Everything was really really good. I quite enjoyed the experience. Bathroom: I tried my best while in PH not to use the bathrooms because the tabo and me are not friends, so I can't tell you the cleanliness of them. Prices are great for what you get! Definitely a great place to go if you're in Cebu!

Bucket Shrimps offers a cajun flavour which has been fine tuned to Filipino taste buds. It is a bit sweeter and absolutely bowl licking tasty. It can be spicy or non-spicy. So you can get both seafood and grilled pork items. Eat this with rice. There may be more on the menu, but we stuck to the above. The concept is similar to restaurants offering cajun seafood boiled in plastic bags, but instead of serving the food in boiled plastic bags (which I have to admit is rather unappetizing), this place serves them in appetizing looking buckets :). There are no utensils provided, they give you gloves. There are no plates provided, you just put the food straight on the plastic table cover. You can order beer here as well. But just a little background, I am into art and architecture so this review is largely influenced by that. Decor - Just like the hotel, the restaurant is downright artsy and eclectic, but yet not overwhelming. There is a perfect balance of whimsy and structure. Ambience - Ate very late dinner (think 11:30 pm), and two days of breakfast buffets that came with my reservations. Place was only 15% filled, so not crowded at all. I actually enjoyed the somewhat empty and silent feel. Menu - They have a good mix of appetizers, soup, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, main course, and dessert. I personally felt the pricing was adequate, with most items in the 300+ peso range, with the exception of some main courses. Food - Tried the adobo flakes, calamari, and surprise, surprise - the seafood pasta... (hint - Almost everywhere I've traveled to, seafood pasta is my go-to). ALL WERE DELICIOUS!!! For the breakfast, the selection consisted of typical Filipino full breakfast items, which honestly, I wanted and craved for: Fried garlic rice, corned beef, eggs, somekind of pasta, sausage (my kids ate and didn't like it), and my favorite - fried bangus. They had the typical breads and a waffle maker, fruit, and so on. Still enjoyed it. Service - They are friendly, and they checked to see how we were doing - something not normal in most restaurants in the PI. If I wasn't pressed for time, I wouldn't have mind eating here over and over again, but I was. However, I would love to come back to The Henry and definitely eat at Rica's again! Notable mentions must go to their forty chicken - very small but delicious chicken cooked with 40 cloves of garlic and butter. Oreo crepe and their frozen layered dessert were also very nice. All pastas ordered were al dente and very garlicky. You just like garlic if you go to Philippines! Attentive service, coffees were not bad, wines were cheap at 150 peso per glass.
