we came over to sugarlicious yesterday evening about 30 minutes before they were closing! it was actually a bit busy but not too bad. this little bakery is soooo cozy inside! we got a coconut cupcake, a slice of their cherry coconut cake, a mini carrot cake and a mini pineapple upside down cake! these cakes were SO good. what i loved the most was that they weren't so overly sweet! the frosting was so good and then the cake was super soft yummy! we will definitely come back! they were also SO sweet and patient with my toddler! read more

The unicorn cake was AH-mazing! Thanks for helping make my kiddo's birthday special. The cake was a total hit.

The ambiance of this place was beautiful! The presentation was exceptional. The service was very low-end. It could have been possibly because I was not a regular customer but as a first time guest, it wasn't very pleasant. I took some of our teens girls from church there, as a nice fellowship time with them and they just loved the place, as it was very beautiful and elegant but they were jot very fond of the cupcakes. In regards to the cupcakes: The cake itself was moist, soft and delicious! Unfortunately, the icing tasted as if it was bought from the store. It was almost like an illusion. The cupcakes that have different designs, did not taste like the design on the cupcake. I completely understand every bakery is different but we were under the impression that whatever topping is on the cupcake, that is how the cupcake should taste, but that was not the case. Overall, the cupcakes were deserving of a 4.0 but because the service wasn't very welcoming, I decided upon giving this place a 3.0. The struggle to adhere to a healthy diet is intense, the pitfalls and sugary temptations are plentiful. I want this bakery to be in the Charlotte city border, but that's bad news for my waistline. The only thing keeping me from more frequent trips to Sugarlicious is the rush hour traffic on 85S. I haven't had the cupcakes consistently enough to really comment on them fairly. What I always leave with, are the very tall cake slices. These are so very, very good. I like the rotating flavors, every trip I'm not sure what is going to be available. I have yet to be disappointed with any cake I've taken home with me. I love how their brownies have chocolate chips inside of them, and they are on the firm yet moist side. Unlike other brownies with the consistency of a brick, which makes them not my favorite treat. But not here. I'll be back again and again, unfortunately! ;) read more

I stopped in at the new (to me) location on New Hope Road looking for some cupcakes. When I pulled up, there was a chalkboard outside stating "buy 5 cupcakes, get 1 free". Score. The shop is nicely decorated and they have a variety of cupcakes, cakes and cookies on display plus ice-cream. There were also huge hunks of wrapped brownie on top of the display - they looked very good. I waited a few minutes for someone to come from the back and, in that time, I watched a fly land on one certain flavor of cupcake several times. When the employee walked up, she noticed the fly too and shooed it away. Needless to say, I didn't order that flavor. I just couldn't. Maybe the cakes and cupcakes need to be covered? Anyway, I ordered my dozen variety cupcakes, paid and left. It was quick and easy. We got: oreo, chocolate sunflower (with oreo center), coconut, strawberry, vanilla with a pretty purple flower, funfetti, and cherry sundrop. See pictures attached. Everyone who had one said they were very good. I found the cupcake to be perfectly moist; not dry and not sticky. For me, there was too much frosting, but everyone else ate theirs up without complaint. I read other reviews stating the cupcakes were too small but they seem standard cupcake size to me and were more than enough. Maybe others are comparing those massive, designer cupcakes to these? I'll be back to get more cupcakes. Hopefully, covered this time. read more

Great customer service!!! Really tasty desserts! I love this place and I have told so many people about how great their cakes are now it's time to tell my fellow yelpers. The flavor and texture is always consistent. They have the slice of the day which I usually order if it's not sold out by the time I go. I have tried several flavors and loved them all. Now that I live in Charlotte my trips there are not as frequent and I haven't found anything better or just as good in the Charlotte area. On top of the great cakes they have a drive-thru. For my mom's 50th I wanted to do something special and get her a really nice birthday cake. I went in and gave them some ideas and they delivered beyond my expectations. The cake looked fantastic, very elegant, and tasted even better. I hate a cake that's too sweet, it's unenjoyable. But this cake was delicious not too sweet just sweet enough. I felt like I could eat more the just a tiny sliver of this cake. I ordered an 8 inch 2 tiered cake with buttercream frosting. The total was I believe $68 with a tip. It was a little more than what I anticipated paying, but I've never bought a cake before so I'm not sure what the normal price of cake is anyways it was worth every penny. I don't know how people are rating them below 4 stars. Their customer service is great. The young ladies there are always pleasant when I arrive. They answered my questions and even offered to make a batch of pecan rolls and hold them aside just for me. All I had to do was call ahead. So I will be honest, I have only eaten their vanilla cupcakes (as I don't like chocolate cake) and their chocolate chip cookies. The cookies are not as scrumptious as their cupcakes but ok to fill a craving. But their cupcakes are so soft and topped with oh so good icing. Absolutely delicious! This was my first visit(I don't live in this county but, tasted 1 of their products @ a child's birthday party a few mths ago). There was a buy 5, get 1 free cupcake special going on & that's what I decided to get. There was one older lady up front that went in the back to ask for assistance due to her already helping someone. The lady from the back that did assist me was very nice & knowledgeable of their offered products. I paid for the cupcakes ($22) & just felt like I still needed something else. I then decided on a slice of strawberry cake. The lady from the back cut my slice, set it to the side & told the first lady that assisted upon my arrival to ring up my purchase when she was done with the customer ahead of me. I overheard the customer ahead of me mention that she was going to use her $5 reward. When it became my turn, I asked the lady about the rewards club because it hadn't been mentioned to me & I would like to join to earn points as well. I also asked if I would receive points for my first purchase $22. She said no. I only received points from the second purchase ($7) slice of cake. I don't think that's fair b/c had I known, I would've joined before making the purchase. I wasn't offered a cookie, another cupcake, a slice of cake or anything for their lack of informing every customer about their rewards program. How are new customers supposed to know what they don't tell?? I will return if/when I'm in the area but, this matter should be addressed. EVERY customer should have the same opportunity to earn points to save on future purchases. We're the people that keep these places in business. read more

I ended up here today by chance after I went on a wild goose chase for chik-fil-a. I found my lunch destination- and then took a wrong turn out of the exit and ended up here. I'm a new mom- and I saw a drive thru. And treats! I hemmed and hawed and decided to treat myself with a cookie to sugar fuel my ride to the mountains. Went in today to pick up a cake that I ordered for my baby girl 11th birthday. We drove about 30 minutes on The Thursday prior to pick out a cake and give details! I paid $58.00 for a pink and yellow cake custom down to the details. This cake start at 35, but they charged me almost double for what they called the extras! But that was ok, I'll get the cake that we wanted for her birthday! Arrived today, and they did not have the cake that I ordered. The inside of the cake was pink and yellow layered with lemon icing, and the outside was pink and white icing. The outside was to match the inside. We have been coming to this bakery for a while and even with poor service we still remain loyal, usually enjoyed the deserts. I asked for a discount to account for their error, and the owner said I could take the cake as is, or leave it and get a refund!! I received a refund and they have lost a customer! I keep my words to myself and my husband found another bakery less than ten minutes away, and they had a pink strawberry champagne cake and immediately decorated it for my daughters day tomorrow!! Better service and a better cake! I really was disappointed but I am glad this need has landed me at another place that I do not think will mind meeting the sweet treat needs in our family! read more

I love baked good and was really excited about my little treat, however, it was disappointing. This maybe hard but I am comparing them to another bakery up the street that I stumbled upon called Splat (maybe or something similar to that I reviewed them as well) which is now my expected standard for buying a cupcake for $2.50. The cupcake itself was hard around the edges & not moist at all in the center. Which is what I was expecting b/c sometimes the edges get a little hard there is no stopping it. However, this entire cupcake was just a dense dry tasteless mass of ingredients dressed up like pretty cupcake. The icing (I got an Andes mint) was also hard, compact, and just bleh for a lack of words. What my cupcake lacked in texture it also lacked in flavor. There was no real mint chocolate flavor in the cupcake itself and the mint flavor in the icing tasted like the imitation oil found at a Walmart. I also got a cookie for my son and it was nothing to write home about. It was large and hard. So all in all if you like baked goods that taste like they were made by a novice baker in a home kitchen three days ago... This is your place!! Not sure how they stay in business but the owner should really think about focusing on the quality of product she is putting out. This place is not sugarlicious its more like crapalicious. read more

I haven't tried much here because I always go with the pecan bars because they are just THAT good that it's hard for me to break away. Had a decadent brownie once with all kinds of chocolaty goodness in it (it had like 5 or so different chocolate elements in it). The prices are pretty good and they usually have a deal going to where if you buy 2 cupcakes you get a cake pop for free. The environment is small but very cute and cozy. Last time I was there they had just gotten free wi-fi set up. read more

I planned a baby shower for my soon to be great nephew and the shower was a prince theme. The cake was suppose to look regal with scrolled art and a gold crown. The crown as you can see looked like my 3 year old grandson made it. The art looked like someone had decorated their first cake. The blue piping bled. I was sooo disappointed and embarrassed because the cake was supposed to be the focal point of the shower. Including my husband there were several culinary professionals who were appalled by the presentation and couldn't believe the cake was released looking like it did. When the lady put the cake in the trunk I informed her what I saw I was not pleased and her response was "okay thank you". Once I took the cake out the box it made me sick to my stomach, at this point the shower was starting and it was too late to do anything about it. I spoke to a manager who did apologize and offered a 50% refund on my card or gift card. I paid for the the cake in cash, do you think I want a gift card to spend in this establishment that did a less than poor quality job of a cake? I do have to say that I was reimbursed all of my money. When I went back and the manager saw the pictures, she stated that cake should have never left the bakery. She stated that even with getting my money back didn't take away the embarrassment of the cake and sincerely apologized. read more

I recently ordered a cake from Jenn's Sugarlicious Bakery and overall, it was a pretty good experience. I appreciated that the bakery's website listed all of their flavors, cake sizes, and pricing options so when I went to order my cake I knew what I wanted. I was slightly disappointed when the young lady taking my order informed me that if you want any fondant or gum paste pieces on your cake, you have to place your order at least 2 weeks in advance. I just wanted one flower on the cake...I think they could have bent the rules for me, but no meant no. The cake itself was decorated exactly how I had asked. The overall taste was good, but it had about an inch too much icing. I also thought that there wasn't enough raspberry filling between the cake layers. I will definitely give Jenn's another shot and next time I'll be more specific about what I want! read more

The worst thing happened today courtesy of Sugarlicious Bakery! Today was my daughter's 16th birthday. I drove over thirty miles to get the cake and when I got back home and pulled in the driveway the top tier slide off. When I got inside the house with it, half the cake broke off. I called them immediately and told them that the cake was not secure and that my daughter had waited all year for this special cake. Instead of being willing to right the wrong they wanted me to pay them $75 more after I had already spent $160 to remake the cake because they had spent all day making the jacked up one! I have had a cake made from this bakery every year since my daughter was in 3rd grade! But never again! The customer service is pathetic! To be honest this place has never been the same since it changed ownership a couple of years ago! I would not recommend this place to a dog!!! read more

I've had several cupcakes from here, and while they're good, I guess they just aren't right up my alley. I suppose I should know that when you're name contains, "Sugar" in it, then you've been warned, but they really throw the sugar in there with gusto! I prefer a little less icing, and they just put more on than I like. Also, the Oreo cupcake that I had was a bit dry, and that's one of my top priorities. I finally found a time this place was open to try it out! I got a few items. The cream horn was bomb! I love sweet frosting and it's filled with more of a buttercream. Lemon bar was also really good. Both of we're pretty large. I did also get a cut out cookie to try and really did not care for them. They were hard and very flour tasting. The icing was traditionally harder but still no much flavor. The other issue was stood there forever bc they were in the back working, I finally just yelled so they knew I was there. Overall will return but suggest better hours, I planned to stop for coffee one morning but they don't open till much later than most ppl on their way to work. read more

I was a little concerned about trying this, because I loves me some cuppies. I'd injured a disc in my back and had to get two shots in the hind end, so to cheer me up, the Hubbyman drove by Jen's for a little tasting surprise. Having never been before, I was immediately surprised to find they had a drive thru! Good to know, for when I need sweets on the go. I couldn't decide between the Coconut, Praline, and Snow White (apple with streusel crumb topping and a cream cheese frosting with a fondant apple) so since I was sporting three boo-boo areas, the Hubbyman splurged. The coconut cake was divine. Honestly, it's hard to find a better moist cupcake than this. I didn't even need all the frosting, which for me was a tad bit heavy (which is why I took off one star). I prefer my buttercreams to be light and fluffy. This was more like pasty. I can see why someone called it too sweet, although for me the sweetness wasn't the issue-it's a texture thing. Praline was pretty good-also moist and tasty. Butter Pecan cake and caramel frosting. The frosting didn't taste much different from that on the coconut though (except for the coconut). Leads me to believe they mix up one giant batch and then flavor it accordingly. Not a great practice, but understandable. The only bummer cupcake for me was the one I MOST wanted to try--the Snow White. In their defense, I waited a day before I ate it (Can you say Sugar Overload?) so maybe that was the issue. The cake was definitely more dry, especially around the edges. The frosting, while sweet, had very little taste. Probably would try it one more time just to be sure. Overall a decent bakery (and I'm picky!) but a tad hit or miss on some elements. As for service, the younger staff was stiff at first, but we joked with her and she loosened up. We left laughing. I'd definitely give it a solid 3.5 stars. Pretty good. read more

The owner, Kelly, sat down with me and discussed the cake I wanted for a small baby shower. We agreed upon a 9 inch round cake. I sent a picture of the cake to her as well. The cake I received was nothing like I ordered. It was HUGE! I needed to feed 10-15 people and this cake would have fed 100-150 people. It was square, not round. But the thing that embarrassed me was the quality of the product. The cake itself was over cooked. It looked as if it had fallen while cooking. As a result, I believe there was an attempt to make the cake look presentable by using icing to build it up. As a result, there was a disgusting amount of icing on this cake. I'm talking 2 inches thick. The icing tasted good. The cake itself was not good. The excessive icing only made the finished product taste worse!! I was extremely embarrassed to have served this cake!! I am not one to post negative reviews. I called the shop and asked to speak to the owner to discuss my experience. Maybe a new person made this cake? Maybe there was a miscommunication? I was willing to discuss. However, Kelly never returned my call. Very unprofessional n not acceptable. My family recently relocated to the area and were throwing a big party; we ordered two cakes which were not cheap. Both of the cakes turned out to be disasters. The first cake was supposed to look like a Tiffany's box; it was SO sloppy that we told them to please fix it. It was leaning on one side and the box wasn't clean cut like you'd expect it to be; it generally looked like someone who was learning how to do the cakes for the first time did it. They took forever to "fix" it and did a half-ass job; it looked better but was still sloppy. That cake was $120. The 2nd looked nothing at all like the picture we had chosen--they have an album of pictures you can choose from, and we chose one and they stapled it to our order. Apparently they "lost" it and so the cake ended up looking nothing like their own picture we'd chosen. They didn't apologize for it at all. We asked to be refunded since they lost the picture and it was nothing like what we wanted, and they flat-out told us no. The woman we were dealing with could not have been more rude and unprofessional; she said the owner said no and that we could at the most get a gift card. We said no, we want our money back because this cake is not what we asked for and YOU lost the picture. In the middle of the store in front of other customers the woman we were dealing with said "I'm not losing my job over this!!!" and literally left us. She came back later and said "Okay give me your card" and refunded us for that cake. No apology, no nothing, just attitude and rudeness. They even said "this owner has been doing cakes for 20 years, she knows what she's doing" when we said the first cake was sloppy and we wanted it fixed. While we were waiting for the cake to be fixed, another customer came in and was happy with their order and said "oh this is perfect;" the woman we'd been dealing with looked me right in the eye and said "She does a great job, I'm glad it's perfect, just the way you like it!" SO unprofessional to be that confrontational and straight up disrespectful to a paying customer. They kept the cake they refunded us for and gave no discount or apology for the first cake that was sloppy to begin with and still sloppy when we left. We were screwed over for our party and paid for crappy quality. The cakes weren't even good. We ended up going to a Spanish bakery and buying some cheap cake to make up for these cakes and it was SO much better tasting. What a great welcome to the area and to their store; we will NEVER be giving our business to this place again. TERRIBLE customer service, and I am literally a Customer Service Specialist for a living. Even if we were wrong and the cakes were beautiful, that is NOT the way you treat a paying customer. If they are unhappy with what you're giving them, you can be polite, respectful and work with them to fix the situation so that they are happy with what they're paying for, or at the LEAST apologize that you didn't produce what they envisioned and would be happy to give them a discount should they be lucky enough to get your business again and communicate better the next time so that the result is closer to what they want. We order cakes for family events a lot and have never been treated so poorly and been so dissatisfied with a cake company. I will post pictures once I upload them. read more

The cake is sometimes moist, sometimes dry do never consistent. The buttercream is too sweet and gritty. The customer service is always lacking, especially if you do a custom order. My custom order had some issues, which they did not want to rectify to make me happy. I might return, but only for a cupcake here or there if nearby. I'll go elsewhere for planned needs. read more
