I got two sides corn and potato salad. Brisket - Good. Good smoke flavor and tender Ribs - Decent. A little dry but still had good flavor Hot Link - meh. A good hot link does not require jalapeños and cheese to be flavorful. Corn - Had onions and very good flavor Potato Salad - Not very much flavor. Overall not bad and I would try it again. Not too bad for fast food BBQ. Staff was helpful albeit a bit slow. read more

A first timer at Sugarfire. A tremendous menu right inside the door. The Big Muddy was recommended by a friend at work, so this was my mission. The staff was very friendly and helpful for this hungry patron. I was even able to sample one of the sides i questioned. The Big Muddy is one heck of a sandwich. Be ready to not let go because there is so much going on in this special menu item. The combination of brisket and hot link worked perfectly. A great taste, but have the napkins ready. Went on Monday 17 SEP, I had visitors in from MD. I picked Sugarfire on the basis of location (close to their hotel) and a few positive word of mouth recommendations. I wanted to wait a few days to really consider what I would say. I also wanted to read some high and low reviews. A three-star says "A-OK"....I wish it was "Eh-OK 2.475". I have to say that the overall feeling I was left with was being underwhelmed. As we got in the car I turned to my wife and said, "I'm full but not satisfied". She agreed with that evaluation. I got a 2-meat combo, brisket and pulled pork. My wife got salmon. We both got fries (very disappointing, stringy, unevenly brown but not crispy) and the coleslaw was so boring that I wonder if they made it here and no one tasted it or it's made in giant vats downtown in a warehouse by robots. Her salmon was "Midwestern", slightly overcooked, not quite dry but not quite what I can accomplish at home with my meager skill set. My brisket serving (small- 2 slices) was actually quite good, tender, juicy with good fat. The pulled pork was okay, but a small portion for the price and a touch dry (Monday 1700-ish). Two meals with compulsory tip (when you are serving yourself?) $40, definitely "moderate" pricing. I think after reading some reviews and learning a bit about this business I come to this conclusion. Sometimes, organizations grow a bit too fast, they take on more than they can stay true to, their core values and competency become compromised in the quest for bottom line and locations. Meh. We were excited to try the place bc I enjoyed the downtown location. It was packed but the line moved quickly. My husband ordered chicken and brisket. I ordered salmon and it had to be brought out to me. After about 13 minutes, my meal arrived and get this...it was cold. How sway?! I had to wait for my food while my husband had to eat without me and it still came out cold. That's just silly. I would've said something but we are in the middle of moving and packed all day so we were exhausted. Sucked to eat a cold meal after such a long day. Greens were bland, Mac and cheese was ok. A friend recommended Sugarfire as I liked BBQ and I was excited to try it. However, I probably should have told my friend that I was from Kansas City and that my BBQ standard was set pretty high. Sugarfire is not restaurant where you are seated, but rather one where, after going through the food assembly line, you fight for your own table. It's an efficient way to move people, but the system sucks when you are left searching for a table. I got the 8 oz pulled pork platter with coleslaw and spinach quiche. While the food was edible and warm, it did not "meat" my high standard (see what I did there? Get it? Get it? Meat vs. meet?"). The sauces they offered at the inside table were good, however. As they didn't have the sauce on the outside tables, I simply stole some from the inside tables and took them out with me. The cashier was nice enough and the bussing staff was friendly. Not the best BBQ I've ever had, but then again, I'm very particular. Bottom Line: give this place a chance if you like BBQ; just don't expect to be "blown away." read more

Poor and disinterested counter service. Overcooked or steamed full slab of ribs had no smoke flavor and the available sauces were ordinary. This is only my second time going to Sugarfire and. I am so glad they have one in Southwestern Illinois! I had the privilege of going with a friend on opening day and was able to finally try one of their boozy shakes since I was dining in! I also wanted something different than I had the first time, which was the big muddy sandwich. So this time I had the new brisket dip, which was on a hoagie roll and had brisket, carmelized onions and melted Swiss cheese served with a side of au jus and it was delicious! I also tried 2 sides this time since I didn't have any sides the first time, I had the Mac n cheese and the fries. The fries were good but there are so many places that do fries better, I don't think I will order fries again. The Mac n cheese was good and I am so glad they don't put breadcrumbs on the Mac- I am NOT team texture and I like a bowl of creamy Mac n cheese and don't need the contrasting crunch so that was good. They have a nice variety of desserts, but if you are sitting in you cannot pass on an adult shake- I had the vanilla bourbon caramel and it didn't disappoint! Totally yummy and VERY boozy- they didn't skimp on the bourbon so they are worth the $7.99 price. The location is beautiful- my one gripe is it's a lot of 6 tops- tables set for 6. I don't know if it was just because it was opening day and so crowded it seem like the dining area has very few 2 tops and more 4 and 6 tops, so me and a friend had to ask another couple if we could sit at their table which was in a little alcove/nook behind the condiment area. Because, like most people would do, they sat at the 2 chairs closest to the main aisle and the other 4 sears next to them were empty. Some people like that kind of communal dining when a place is busy- I am not a fan of it. But hey they may have done the research to find that small parties of 1 and 2 mostly take out and families and groups tend to dine in, but it was just my personal preference. Oh, meats. How I love meats and all thems sauces. Sugarfire is a consistent place my family goes to, for pretty much any occassion. Kids are fussy and we need something fast? Sugarfire. Family in town and we want to show them some solid STL BBQ? Sugarfire. Keeping the diet mostly low carb but also want to feel like a quality lunch? Sugarfire. Point is, I'm sold. I usually get the brisket plate or a combo of two meats, no sides. I would get sides more often but it's usually a gamble on how many I can find that aren't starchy or sugary (see the aforementioned lowcarb). The brisket is consistently flavorful and with a nice smoke char to it. That thin layer of fat provides just a hint of buttery flavor to a yummy bite. Sometimes I will get the pulled pork, but usually, I just stick with the brisket and will ask for the end pieces if I am feeling like the person behind the counter is friendly. I've had a few run-ins with some folks at this location that were just a little short probably due to high volume, but mostly everyone is pleasant and seems happy to be there and help me. If I could change one thing besides more consistent low-carb sides, it would be less sugar-laden sauces. I love the white shark sauce but it still has sugar in it, and not everything needs sugar. read more

I should have read the reviews regarding sanitation practices before having my husband pick up takeout from this place. I've been horribly poisoned. On Sunday night my husband brought me a burger and fries from here. The fries were gross, completely cold and soggy and the burger was extremely mediocre. Well, 6 hours later I starting feeling body aches and wound up in the bathroom, sick as dog and have been that way ever since. I have honestly never been this sick to my stomach in my entire life. This place looks part retro 50's pinup and cars and part wood cabin/back porch cookout. They crank out classic butt rock and 70's music at a tolerable volume that still allows table conversation without raising your voice. The fountain station has classic favorites on tap like Ski soda and Frostie Rootbeer, Rep and others along with sweet and unsweetened brewed tea. The smoked brisket was incredibly tender and tasty. I found it buttery and juicy. I tried it alone and in a piece of white bread, (which they supplied on their condiment bar). Their baked beans are sweet and just spicy enough. I chose the squash combo as my second side, which I feel wasn't cooked well enough to consume. I couldn't pierce most pieces with my fork, that indicates to me they need to be cooked a different way or for more time. I'm going to microwave them then sauté them again, later when I get home. Okay Sugarfire!!! You may have won my heart! It's been awhile since I've had Sugarfire and decided to try recently. I follow them on Instagram and their daily specials are drool worthy LOL! So I decided to finally try them out again. We had dinned in this time and ordered their buffalo salad. It was good but I've had better, they forgot the dressing and I didn't realized it until I got home and had left overs for dinner! We also ordered the meat daddy platter! According to my husband we had it many years ago at the Sugarfire location on olive and he reads my reviews and said it was good. Now, that I remember it was good but some of the meats were dry at the time. Anyways, the meat daddy was perfect this time around! Everything was perfectly cooked, and still super good and moist the following day. We had 3 different sides, mac and cheese, potatoes au gratin, and spinach soufflé! Aside from the ribs, my 2 year old son also absolutely loved all the sides and he's pretty darn picky! The Mac and cheese was very creamy. My husband said the potatoes tasted like the Mac and cheese but with potato and the spinach soufflé was one of my favorites. Oh yeah we noticed the side portions are a lot more generous vs getting carry out. Service was great! People were friendly! We're definitely going to be back a lot sooner than later. read more

Fast, friendly service and some of the tastiest BBQ in the Midwest. My husband had the meat daddy, which was enormous. He raved about the pulled pork and says the seasoning was top notch. We've been here several times and the service has always been hit or miss. Sometimes workers were friendly and sometimes they weren't. Some of their specials have been great and others not. So this past Sunday we ordered food from here. It was two of their daily specials, the Cuban rueben for both my husband and myself. My husband went and ordered to go, he said the staff was mostly friendly, except the rude gal who seemed annoyed to have to do her job by bringing his order out. We both ate dinner together and by the early morning hours we were both sick. We both ended up sick for two days. Food poisoning sucks! I don't recommend eating here. Stopped in for lunch on our way home from St Louis. What a treat! We both got the pulled pork, mine a sandwich and my partner's the platter. It was fantastic on its own, smoky and delicious. It what sealed the deal for me was the bbq sauce with coffee! Heaven. I had the potato salad which was good and my partner had the egg potato salad and strawberry applesauce which also were good, but the pulled pork was the star of our meals. But I'd park isn't your thing, they of course have other types of bbq..brisket, ribs, turkey. And pimento cheese! Next time I'll try that or the smoked portobello sandwich. Meant to write this review a few months ago, but just never got the time. So everyone raved about Sugarfire and how great it was. They were like "ayy bro you need to try this place". So I go and try and it. Line was long, but that I expect that from places as popular as this. And when it comes to BBQ food, I will wait. My food choices were going to be salmon and some other kind of meat. Unfortunately, right as I got to the counter, they ran out of salmon. Given the other choices that were on there, I went with ribs instead, reluctantly. I'm not a huge fan of ribs. But I'll get there in a minute why that matters. To make up for not having fish, they ended up giving us a free dessert on the house. Which was cool. I wasn't upset or anything at them for running out of a food item this late. Customer satisfaction was their aim and they fulfilled that. So...the food. I like my BBQ to be hot, fresh, and full of flavor. My disappointment is immense and I am deeply saddened to say that it was none of those three things. It was warm at best, the flavor just wasn't there (I had to continually use their sauces which provided much more flavor), and it didn't look fresh either. Now. The ribs. I'm not a big fan of ribs. But I gave these chance. Thinking maybe Sugarfire would change my opinion on ribs. They completely missed the mark. There was hardly any meat and, again, no flavor. I finished them because I felt bad about wasting food. These were possibly the worst part of the experience. As for the desserts and sides, they were standard BBQ place sides. Can't argue over green beans and pie. I felt like this place deserved more. I thought maybe I was too harsh on it. Then I had A Fine Swine again from New Baden, which I have rated too. And I knew, I wasn't being harsh. I have an expectation, and it wasn't met sadly. I gave 3/5 for the lack of flavor, food wasn't hot and it didn't look fresh. Their customer satisfaction and the friendliness and atmosphere of the staff prevented this place from getting 2/5, in my opinion. Will I try them again? Maybe I'll swing by and give them another chance. But for now, my choice of BBQ places still lies with A Fine Swine. Maybe next time Sugarfire. Maybe next time. read more

Been here twice. First time inside brisket, pork, beans was okay, the atmosphere is lacking. Second time was a order online this was a mistake. They messed the order up and it was very cold even after being there on time for pick up. Hamburger dry, Carolina dry asked for a tip online before the service was complete. Never again. Even though there was a long line, it moved pretty fast because it was in an assembly line (cafeteria style) in selecting what types of meat you like. The only reason why I gave this place 3 stars was because we got here at 6pm, and they already ran out of their ribs. How does a BBQ place run of out their main meats? Other than that, their chicken, and their brisket was pretty good! Everyone here was super friendly! I would come here again to try the ribs! This place offers a unique variety of different sodas! Fries while fresh cut are not at good as 5 Guys (Sorry Guys, they just weren't as fresh) She said her Milkshake was indeed good (This company as a whole gets bonus points for using St. Louis's own Ronnie's Ice Cream) Her a Single Cheese/Me Double Cheese burger both with Lettuce Tomato Onion and Pickle.
