And when I decided I did want my layers a little more texturized later that day (not because of something she did, just wasn't sure at the time of appt how I wanted it) she fit me in the very next day. Sugar Salon is like my 3rd home (considering that I have a home in NYC and one in CT...) Angela has been making my hair fabulous for about the last 10 years and I don't see that changing any time soon, considering I trek back every 4-5-6 weeks to CT to get my hair done from NYC. Any crazy hair cut or color you can think of, I've had it and consistently receive compliments on every single 'do we happen to come up with. (We even did ombre hair before it was cool and I have the pics to prove it!) Angela has the skills and the savvy, she will let you know if something you want won't work and find something for you that will. Sugar is the best hair salon I have ever been to (and I have been to a lot since I'm a Groupon subscriber). Going there is like visiting an old friend. My hairdresser is Angela who has been giving me sexy cuts for 5 years. Angela is extremely skilled in her craft. My hair always looks fabulous, and expensive. She is also honest, and will let you know if the cut you want will work. She can also fix a funked-up color like no one else. Having been a regular of Angela's for over 10 years, I was a bit nervous when she asked to move my appointment to her new stylist, Emily, while she was out on medical leave. Despite my nervousness, I also trusted Angela's judgment that Emily would do a good job! My instincts were right and Emily was fantastic! She nailed the color (that I have always been complimented on) and was a total sweetheart. She may have taken slightly longer than I'm used to, but my hair came out so great, that I can't complain! I have been going to Erin for the past 3 years + and she is absolutely fabulous (as are both the other stylist, Angela and Emily!). The salon is adorably cozy, and the ladies make me feel as though I am right at home when I'm there. Over the past 3 + years I have asked Erin to make me blonde, then brown, then ombre', then gray then back to blonde again - and she has never missed a beat! She really listens to what I want and makes sure I am happy with the results. I have long hair and have had bad experiences with other salons chopping off all my hair when asking for a "trim" but Erin has always respected my wishes to only give me a trim. She has also been very honest with me, when my hair did need a little more than a trim to make it healthy again she has told me but always discussed with me before taking the plunge and cutting off a few inches. As for the price, they have normal high end salon prices. For those people who commented saying they have high prices, they are typical prices for what you are getting (mind you, they don't have an extra person there washing or cleaning the salon - they are doing all of that themselves!). You are 100% getting what you pay for when going to Sugar - an amazing cut, fantastic color and great styling. If you don't want to pay those prices, then go to a cost cutters where you will get exactly what you pay for, but if you want to have an awesome color that is not your natural hair color - you're going to have to pay for it (and that is with any high end salon). I've been a client of Angela's through many salons (10 plus years) but Sugar is by far my favorite spot! The salon is adorable and hip, it really fits the personalities of the stylists that work there, especially since Angela took it over this past summer. Even though the salon is small, they still offer every hair service you can think of. Most importantly, Angela and Erin do really great hair! I always leave the salon with exactly what I asked for and happily accept the endless compliments daily on my great cut and color. I had an appointment with Emily and she was very accommodating to my needs and wants; she's very easy to talk to. I never got a haircut I liked until this one. I needed a trim and some cleaning up for my college senior pictures. The place can be confusing to find if you haven't been to the area, so just ask before hand. I thought it was a good price, from other places I looked at in the area for simple wash, cut, & blow-dry (55$ with Emily). I definitely recommend coming here. Great place, great workers. read more

I just relocated back to CT and found Sugar by surfing the web. Erin cut and colored my hair for one year. When I requested my long hair be cut into a trendy angled bob Erin was unable to do the job. She not only gave me an awful haircut she colored my hair two different colors and sent me on my way. The next day I got a text from Erin asking how I liked my hair. Due to never complaining I found it odd that I received a text from Erin, but elected to share with her the negative feedback I received and asked that she fix my hair. Erin insisted I come back to the salon that following week on a Monday so she could fix my hair. When I sat down in her chair she said "wow your hair looks awful". After an hour I left the salon with a shorter haircut and dark brown hair. I am a redhead. When I texted Erin to share with her the disappointment and how I had to make an appointment with another salon to fix my hair her comment was, oh I am sorry. Erin spends a lot of time covering up her mistakes. She made my sister look like my little pony and made up a story about how it was not her fault my sisters color looked awful. I went to Sugar for the first time this week after 5 long months of not seeing the inside of a salon. I didn't have a go-to salon in the area and my friend recommended I see Emily at Sugar. I went in for a much needed full set of highlights and a cut. I was comfortable the moment I walked in the door, I felt more at home there than I have at any other salon.Super friendly stylists and clients as well. Emily really listened to what I wanted and started on my quite outgrown, difficult hair. When we were through, I was happy with the results, looking 10x better than when I came in. But due to some stubborn ends (result of years of at home dark hair dye, then switching to blonde highlights) my hair didn't turn out exactly as Emily had wanted. Even though I thought my hair looked great (much better than the last time I had gotten it done at another salon), Emily convinced me to come back a couple of days later to make it even better (at no extra charge!).
