"Hiring Angie was the best money we ever spent!"…read more That's a quote from my husband, who just months before I went into labor was wondering why on earth we needed to get a doula anyway, because, well, wasn't that HIS job? After learning from a friend exactly what a doula is, I knew I wanted to get one. My husband is a wonderful man, but tends to kind of shut down when he doesn't know what to do. Being first time parents, child birth was full of unknowns, and I knew we would need help. He wasn't exactly sold on the idea, but went along with it anyway. When he met Angie during one of our planning visits, he warmed up to her right away. When the visit was over, he actually seemed relieved to have her on our team. He finally got it, that Angie was going to be there to help BOTH of us, not to take his place. He liked that. The pressure was off of him a little, and she would help him know what to do. My water broke at 9 pm, and at 2 am on my due date I called Angie to let her know we were on the way to the hospital. I felt terrible waking her up, but I could tell it was just part of the job for her. She happily met us there right away. Angie was amazing. She helped us get settled in a little. Most of the labor is one big blur to me, but I remember her being there every time I needed her, whether it was a sip of juice to keep my energy up, a word of encouragement to tell me I was doing a good job, or something from her amazing bag of tricks to help with the discomfort I was feeling, all without me even having to ask. The one memory that is the strongest, over a year later, is one that I feel sums up my experience with Angie so perfectly. I had been moved to the bathroom to labor in the tub when contractions were getting stronger. I was having terrible back labor, and Angie had a heavenly way of applying pressure that made it bearable. I had moved out of the tub and was getting re-situated. I could feel another strong contraction coming, and just sort of blurted out to the room "Where's Angie?" knowing that I needed her help soon. She gently touched my arm and responded "I'm right here." She had been sitting right next to me the whole time. But she is so calm, quiet, and unintrusive that I didn't even know she was there. At the same time, she made me feel safe, and confident in what I was doing. Having someone so experienced with me took away all of the anxiety that was I feeling about childbirth. After many hours of intense back labor, I couldn't take the pain any longer. I ended up getting an epidural so I could continue. There was absolutely zero judgement or pushback from Angie, despite the fact that I went into it saying I didn't want any pain medication. My labor ended up with a c-section after my baby got stuck, and she stayed until the end to make sure he was delivered safely. Having Angie there was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was a little worried it would be weird to have someone I didn't know very well there for one of life's most intimate moments, but she ended up feeling like an old friend. I can't recommend her highly enough!

She provides the doula support (emotional, candles, music, aroma-therapy, making everyone feel comfortable and supported) but was also very helpful because of her medical knowledge. She was terrific during the actual labor of advocating for me and helping where appropriate. Jenn was respectful with the hospital staff and did not overstep; in fact, the hospital staff seemed happy to have Jenn there. Jenn also visited our house and provided us all of the education and checklists we needed before the labor and delivery. Jenn also gave us a very nice timeline of the labor so we can look back and remember all of the details. She also took pictures of some of the special moments so my husband could focus on being with me. My husband I highly recommend hiring Jenn as a doula.

We cannot say enough good things about Jenn!! Jenn was our Doula for the birth of our first child,…read moreand we had such an incredible experience! Jenn previously worked as a L&D nurse for 10+ years and is a wealth of knowledge for all things birth (and baby) related! Jenn's three educational classes ahead of birth were incredibly insightful and helpful, plus she shared the slides with us afterwards to refer back to (which we have done several times). During my actual labor, Jenn was my biggest cheerleader! She helped us understand everything that was happening and think of potential questions to ask to advocate for ourselves. She helped me into different positions to help labor progress, she brought jello and bone broth to snack on, she made the room feel cozy and relaxed, she helped me mentally process everything that was happening and made us feel extremely comfortable throughout the entire process. I had intended to deliver naturally, and my birth ended with an unplanned c-section. There were several moments where my emotions got the best of me and Jenn helped me process everything that was happening and be happy with any direction we went. Afterwards, Jenn visited us in the hospital after birth and did a home visit a week after to help with the home transition. On top of all of this, Jenn sent us a time stamped overview of our birth story and it is something I will cherish forever! There is so much I've already forgotten from that day and Jenn's notes are so fun to look back on! Jenn was attentive, reliable and such a joy to work with! Even the staff at the hospital I delivered at were singing her praises! We loved working with Jenn and would recommend her services to anyone! She is the absolute best! :)

After not being able to have nurse…read morepractitioner midwives (SSM Health didn't offer them at the time) like I did with my first due to insurance, he agreed to give it a shot and meet with Lumos. He thought Doulas were going to push us to have the birth they envisioned for us or would push him out of the supportive birthing companion role during the birth. After we met the Lumos ladies my husband (who is an analytical programmer type) agreed to move forward. One of the saddest things to him about our baby arriving/him going back to work was there would be no more monthly meetings and no more Lumos for us (she is our last baby). They helped my husband support me. They did not step in and take his place but provided addition, much needed support. They are not there to make your decisions for you but rather help provide valuable information when you need it and provide you support and guidance along the way as needed. I cannot speak highly enough of this team of wonderful ladies. They were there for me every step of the pregnancy (well not the first part ) and during the first year postnatal. Their monthly prenatal meetings were a great opportunity to meet other families, get to know our Doulas better, discuss the monthly topic, and to have a safe space to get information/opinions of topics that might be on our minds or other families going through pregnancy as well. Prenatal yoga with Kristin was one of my favorite things during pregnancy. I never was a "yogi" before and did it on a whim but it was amazing. It helped center me physically, mentally and emotionally. I looked forward to it every week. I started only a few months into the pregnancy and I feel it genuinely helped birth my daughter. I used several poses and breathing techniques during the birth. Some of the music even made it into my birthing playlist. Kristin provided a safe space where we could laugh, cry, de stress, or just be. I really needed that during a pregnancy I felt a lack of support in other areas of my life (not my husband but from other family and many friends). They introduced me to my prenatal chiropractor Amy Anderson (who also worked on my newborn baby and I still see her. I cannot recommend her enough as well). During the birth, my husband and I delayed calling our Doulas because we thought we were fine and it might be weird having them there. This is the only thing we regret in the process and our recommendation is to call them. When they entered it was like a warm hug just wrapped around us (metaphorically speaking). They helped bring a sense of calm to a chaotic point. They had ideas we didn't think of and helped my husband and I every step of the way. I ended up having the best and most empowering birthing experience I've had (this was my second birth) and that was due to these amazing women. After birth I'd highly recommend joining Moonbeams. It truly is a unique, highly supportive, much needed space. I've never met a more nonjudgemental mom group. If nothing else it gives me a safe comfortable space to be with my daughter and helps me get out of the house 1-2x a week to be around other adults. As the babies get older it is fun to see them interact with one another. Also, it is a great way to meet fellow moms. Lumos gave me the support I needed and made me feel embraced into a community I didn't know existed before. I am so thankful for everything they did for us. They will always hold a special place in our hearts. Love you ladies!

They are truly advocates for their families and the most amazing birth partners, helping us understand our options and impact every step of the way, and helping me recognize my power as a woman giving birth. Their innovative partnership model allowed us to build a relationship with the full team and meant that no matter what we needed, and when, we had the experience and expertise available to us. We recommend Lumos without hesitation - talk with them once. You'll get it.

It has been almost 2 years since I've me Lara Lasky. On summer 2020 as soon as i decided to have a…read morehome birth I was in a search for midwife and doula. As always I listened to my intuition. So first doula I found didn't click, but second one was perfect match for me. Lara was nice, very informative from our first conversation. With her help I found a midwife. I was totally new in homebirthing, very excited aboit my first pregnancy though. Lara gave me lots of information. We had signed contract at our first meeting and it was pure pleasure to deal with her. During my pregnancy we've been since each other for reiki session, for reflexology session that she does. She was always enough, non judgmental, soothing and elencouraging,, positive, fun and very much helpful whenever I had guestion or concern. With my husband we attended her birth class where she explained and showed in details what is going to happen. Even though I was tired to listen, my husband remembered it all. And in time when it's happening mind goes to rest and great spirit works in cooperation with woman's body. It's an epic experience I can say. When time came Lara arrived very quickly in the middle of the night. And then she showed her power, knowledge in action!! She was there for me all the time, somehow she also manged to support my husband in the process. She brought ger own stuff. So there was essential oils to relax me, music to calm us all. She did amazing things with my back, supporting me everywhere, keeping me hydrated. We had moments of laughter. After my son was born I was exhausted and surprisingly for me I had to give birth to placenta. Lara saw me and felt me so good. She was holding my hand and I could lean on her like she was my mother without words she showed me that deep compassion and love in her eyes. I'm beyond grateful for Lara being with at birth of my son. She also helped me with afterbirth time. She did and teach us bending. She took care of my son, so I could sleep, prepared food for me and helped with laundry. I was surprised with how much she could do for a short period of time. Another important thing that we were texting when I was struggling with motherhood first months. And again she was there for me, once she even came late evening, when what I needed was a HUG and little talk, while I was at home by myself with my son and not being able to put him to sleep. Lara is truly a Gift for mothers who needs help with birth and afterbirth. Lots of blessing to her and her family!

I'm so happy she was there, as soon as she was, I felt more at ease and more comfortable. I turned to her for knowledge and solace. It was my first baby and I had no idea what to expect and my anxiety was through the roof. She was extremely patient with me and was there every step of the way. She made sure to look out for my best interests in labor and delivery, my golden hour with my babe and helped me with latching and breastfeeding. After delivery, she came to check on us and always sent a text every now and again to see how we were and if we needed anything. I've recommended her to family and friends whenever anyone has asked for a doula. And I will continue to recommend her and her business to anyone! Thank you to this wonderful practice!

I really wanted a great doula for a complicated pregnancy. But Robin slept through my son's birth,…read moreeven after I told her at 5 pm I was checking into the hospital the week of my due date. When I talked to Robin, she said she was at an event and didn't have a car with her so she couldn't leave to come to the hospital at that time, because she was dependant on someone else for a ride. She assured me she would come and said she'd never slept through a birth. She also told me most mothers labor for 12+ hours and not to worry since I wasn't dilated at all. I was given Cervidil. In the middle of the night my son's heart rate started dropping. Cervidil was removed, my son's heart rate stabilized and I was given two options: Do a more controlled C-section or try to labor longer and then likely have an emergency C-section. I tried to get ahold of Robin. She slept through the text and phone call. So I opted to do a more controlled C-section which took a while since I couldn't have an epidural and it took more than 30 minutes for the spinal to take. Robin never showed up to the hospital and it took weeks, months, to get a partial refund. I never got a full refund. She also didn't call a back-up doula. She made a really frustrating situation -- of sleeping through my son's birth -- even worse by having to spent weeks of back and forth emails (and my son was a NICU baby) trying to get some of my money back. More troubling she also sent an NDA to me -- which I didn't sign -- to try and make sure this wasn't disclosed. Accidents happen but the follow-up was more problematic. Yes, her father died in the weeks after my son's birth and that is awful, but sending an NDA to try and cover-up the situation of sleeping through a birth was really awful and weeks of emails to get a partial refund difficult as I was recovering from a difficult pregnancy and delivery was troublesome. This happened in the summer of 2017. It's taken me a long time to process everything. I'm sure most births aren't like this, but other expectant moms need to be aware. I would hate for anyone else to go through something like this.
