Ok we weren't going to test the beer garden - it was 8 degrees - but just letting you know there are plenty of spots to sit depending on your mood. Pork belly, fish fingers looking more like generous fists, a chicken pie and franks dogs were our choices - and we all felt the meals were generous, different & delicious. Wed night is a Franks Dogs and beer special night & there's also mystery beer and mulled wine on the menu - an adventure in every glass! A great friend of mine had some going-away drinks here a few months ago and I was surprised to find a really pleasant pub - a little scruffy but in a sweet way. Whoever is in charge has done a great job making the most of the beat-up old premises with a collection of beautiful old lamps and comfy furniture. Plus the drinks are pretty cheap too. I felt something in the air - as though this place was just on the verge of becoming Adelaide's new hipster haunt. A bit of investigation of their Facebook page seems to reveal just that - an intention to draw people in with micro-brewery beers, ciders, DJ nights and live music. There was a cover band playing in the main bar cranking out tunes from Creedence, and The Angels (just to name them all). They weren't great, but they weren't shit either. While I was there, I took full advantage of Bulmers on tap, and sat out in the beer garden and soaked up some sun. It was glorious. There was a slight offensive smell wafting through the beer garden, but to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe it was coming from me? The Brunswick is a great pub, and one I would be proud to call my local. I think I might go back sometime, chat to some of the regulars, and perhaps put a couple of bucks on the greyhounds.

I used to live a couple of blocks away from The Kings (previously the Kings Head) and must say I didn't go there overly often. I have been a few times of late, due to friends parties and the odd chance that I just happened to be around the area, and I must say I like it more than I used to. I think the crowd has a lot to do with my enjoyment of a bar, and it is certainly less pretentious than it used to be. The interior is pretty nice, with an overall rustic feel with some polished elements that lift the place up a notch or two. The Front bar is my favourite area (which is normal for me), and out the front is a really funky booth style design that kicks on a warm summer night. They have also made some kegs into tables (see the piccy) which really works. Right I'll put my interior designer silk scarf away for the time being and pop open a stubby. The beer selection is just how my fellow Yelper, Tegan H, describes....pretty darn spiffy! I tried a few myself, the last time I was sitting on the corner stool, but ended up with sticking with a couple of tried and true drops! The beef schnitzel (with Diane sauce) was a bit underwhelming - there were definitely chunks of tendons or something, making it hard to cut and chew. Okay, it does like in the shadow of the Arkaba, but it has something that the Arkaba lacks - the tackiness of your classic old man pub, complete with the old men sitting at the bar. You will be greeted with a smile and you might even get a handshake. Ryan & Fil are amongst the coolest brewers in town. From Video Game Designers to Brewers, they have such a great success story to tell. In fact, I think it is quite inspirational for those who are looking to get into the industry. Changing your career into something that you really love is always a challenge. But with drive and determination, you can really achieve your dreams. After having to leave the games industry due to the GFC, Ryan took on working in the beer industry and Fil in refrigeration mechanics. In their spare time, they brewed for fun. Just like you would in learning skills to reach the next level in a video game; these two had an epiphany (I am sure after some beers) about combining forces to create one mega-craft-beer-force that Little Bang is today. Unlike other breweries they had the skills to make the equipment they needed which made it a lot more affordable. So, that is exactly what they did. Well, after having to convince their wives of course. And I am sure glad they did. These brews are great and are quickly earning their stripes. As for this Venue, this is a great spot for groups. But, remember don't expect anything fancy, this is a place to chill and relax. There are tables inside and out. Their full range of beers are on offer and you can get a paddle to give them all a go for $15. Need munchies with your beer? They also make their own pickles which are really good. Or you can order some pizza from a nearby joint with free delivery. What are my fave beers on offer? I am a big fan of their Freezer Cleaner. But that is of course going to change in flavour over time. I do also like their Chocolate Porter which is lighter than expected and easy to drink. Give their Happy Land Summer Ale a go if you like something lighter. It's got a lot more flavour profile than others I have tried. Quite floral and almost a little sweet.
