The staff is soooo friendly and they take such good care of our little one. There's enough gym equipment in the weight room and cardio sections to find what you need to get a good workout in. Equipment is updated and new and they take good care of it (clean and operational). The coffee bar is a nice added touch. When I'm able to sign up for classes, the instructors are enthusiastic and wonderful. Definitely try out on of the cycling classes if you have the chance!

I was doing a sets routine and had my set up all ready and was in the middle of the second exercise when someone came over and started moving my stuff. I let them know I was utilizing that equipment and their respond was that I could move to the other side. Well, I could but so could she, and I already had weights, plates and foams set up in that spot for a particular exercise. It made me feel very uncomfortable and she refused to leave my stuff (including phone, and water bottle) versus going to the other side when no one was there. They need more space so people are not on top of each other. Get rid of the 10 extra treadmills no one uses and create a corner for stretching or body weight exercises (burpees, etc). If this location wasn't on my route, I'd drive over to Blocker.

This review is for their fitness center…read more Kroc Community Center's fitness center is pretty good! It's conveniently located just 5 minute drive from where I live. There's a huge parking lot, so there's no shortage of parking space. Inside the fitness area, you'll find a basketball gymnasium with rock climbing wall, a few Air Runner "treadmills", a cardio section with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes and 2 stairmasters, a weight lifting section with plenty of free weights and dumb bells and several chest press and squat stations. Also, they have an abundance of machines for different workouts too. There's a help desk when you have questions or there's no more sanitizer wipes at a station; just let them know and they'll promptly refill it. They also have a swimming pool and a mini kiddie water park too! There's lifeguards on duty pretty much every day, swimming classes, and specific times for free swimming; though they recommend you reserve a swimming lane on their website first. Same thing goes for the basketball gym; best to reserve ahead of time. I really like how there's really no crazy heavy lifters who walk around bare chested flexing in front of the mirror after every set. The gym maintains a strict policy; no shirt, no mask, no workout! For covid, I think the staff is pretty attentive. There's usually always sanitizer wipes at every station throughout the gym, and you see cleaning staff walking around wiping down stations and wiping down frequently touched surfaces. From what I've seen, all the staff and most gym-goers all adhere to the mask requirement. Membership prices vary; with my military discount, I pay just under $40/month which is competitive with other gyms. I would recommend Kroc Center to those looking for a neighborhood gym with an overall friendly and non-judgmental environment.

I do wish they made it brighter or used brighter balls, but, overall, it was a great time. The staff and the other players were all very nice and welcoming throughout all of the games. The center itself looks really nice. Plenty of work out equipment, and the pool area looks like a blast. More like a waterpark! The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful thoughout our visit. The locker rooms are really nice, too. Very spacious center that seems to offer a lot for everyone. In the area? Sentara uses their pool for physical therapy during set hours and during that timeframe no one else is in the pool but therapy patients. So I really enjoyed that. The locker rooms had showers, blow dryers, and lockers which is great. There's also a machine that spins your bathing suit to get the water out. Which comes in handy!! You can bring your own lock or borrow one from the front. They have water fountains that you can refill your water bottles at with ease. The building is clean and the staff are friendly. Within five minutes of stretching yes, stretching in what we reasonably assumed was a designated area, a staff member approached my wife, my nine year old son, and me to ask my son's age. We were then informed, rather abruptly, that no minors under 13 are allowed in that area. Fair enough, rules are rules. Except those weren't the rules we were sold the day before. At signup, we were clearly told that members 13 and up may work out independently, while children 12 and under are allowed so long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. When we pointed out the contradiction, we weren't met with clarification... just a stern double-down. The issue isn't the policy. It's the delivery, the inconsistency, and being corrected in front of a child after being given conflicting information less than 24 hours earlier. SO HERE IS MY TAKE AWAY. Don't rely on the sales pitch. Read the fine print, ask for everything in writing, and understand that what's promised at signup may not survive your first five minutes on the floor.

But here, you get so much for what you pay! They have tons of classes at a variety of times. My go-to's are kettlebells and Tabata--they're such killer workouts but in the best way. One of the things I love most is that the instructors actually do the workouts with you, which is so motivating. Plus, they're super helpful if you need modifications--they just want you to feel good and do your best. And even though this is one of the smaller YMCAs, the vibe is always friendly and welcoming. Just a heads-up, though--weekend classes can get pretty packed, so I recommend showing up early if you want to grab a good spot! I look forward to my workouts here, and it's such a great community. To be perfectly honest, I had no idea this rec center even existed, but I'm glad that I know about it. The rec center has all of the features of the other local rec centers - pool, open gym, weight room, cardio machines, indoor track, clean (very important) locker rooms, and free (and plentiful) lockers. Extra points for the showers in the locker room because each shower has an additional partition so one can shower in one partition and change in the other. The weight room is pretty comparable to a smaller gym's, but the center has all the equipment that one would need for a general workout. Actually, I think this center's weight "room" (or should I say weight open space) is a bit larger than a couple of the other VB rec centers. I noticed this rec center had a few bench presses and deadlift squat apparatuses. This is in contrast to my regular rec center, which has only one of each. I really enjoyed that the rec center has plenty of large windows so the weight room and indoor track receive plenty of natural sunlight, which leads to a cheerful workout . . . at least for me. The staff was pretty much nice and very helpful in providing directions to different parts of the gym. While this rec center is somewhat out of the way for me, I definitely will visit when my local recenter is closed.

This time was for an event being held in a large meeting room off the lobby. The location is on the portion of Newtown Road where the road turns east & the remainder is called Diamond Springs Road. This portion of the road actually runs between Haygood Road and that split. On the campus of buildings are also two elementary schools. The land, previously a farm, was donated to the city by the Williams Family, There are definite positives & negatives to the indoor pool. It appeared from my viewpoint to be slightly smaller than that of Bayside Rec Center. The walking lanes are fantastic for those who enjoy or need that experience for therapeutic reasons. But it does take away from the pool space for those who go to swim or just splash. There are outside activities that aren't available at Bayside. A large connected & fenced splash area was great for younger kids running through the water on a hot day. It gave the feel of a series of stationary underground sprinklers. I viewed an enclosed skate board ramp. Adjacent to that was something being used that was below ground level. I'm not sure what type of activity was involved. I didn't venture further down the meeting room hall. But the large glass window room in which my event was held was great & very accessible. One big flaw was the lack of handicapped parking spaces. I only saw four & had to park in hinterlands in terrible heat. This Rec Center is a great addition to this part of Bayside. It's walking distance from a lot of condo's & apartments. So kids can get there very easily in the summer. The Williams family's land donation is being put to good use.
