My swimming papers

All my life I was scared of swimming but it was on my bucket list. I am 47. Whitney showed me how to use goggles- sensitive eyes and we spent 4 days teaching me how to breathe while swimming. That is the secret trick to swimming. Once your brain stops panicking when your nose goes under the water, you will have enough oxygen to swim. I swam two laps all by myself while breathing correctly. This was important to me because I hope I will have fewer panic attacks in other parts of my life

My gym of choice. My kids have fun in child watch while I work out so that gives me peace of mind. The staff is friendly and helpful. A variety of machines and classes for levels and degrees of exertion/exhaustion. There are so many programs in addition to their fitness classes like baseball or dance for the younger kids. All of my children have taken swim lessons here too! A nutrition class for adults. Parents night out for a couple hours of free babysitting. My oldest daughter has even participated in the young leaders volunteer group for teens. The YMCA is a great organization and this YMCA maintains the standards!

I love it here!! I have been a member for a year now and the benefits, facility, events...everything is great!!! If I had to complain...the membership of $88 for family...sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!! But hey, they are definitely making my money work for me and the facility. Every now and then something is down (broke), or maintenance is needed. Which is cool things happen, but for the most part, it is never too crowded in which I cannot get my workout on. Or not too crowded in which, my 6yr old cannot enjoy herself in the interactive zone or at the pool. The waterpark/outdoor pool is definitely a hot asset!! And now they are building a park for all ages to enjoy...cannot wait for that!! I do believe I will be a member for life!! And yeah, other facilities in the area, I am able to go there too with my membership at this site!! Awesomeness :) Everything you want at a neighborhood gym, the Y has it covered!

This is truly a fantastic YMCA!! It is very clean with a lot of great group classes. I have tried various yoga classes but they also offer Pilates, barre, kickboxing, Zumba, and many others. Yoga & spin Sandy is amazing! upstairs, they have a lot of machines so you can usually find one to satisfy your cardio fetish. There is always a line for the Zumba going on in the group studio up there. There is also a spin room, a walking/running track, and a personal training area in the center. First floor, they have a weight room, basketball court, indoor pool and access to outdoor pool, very competent childcare (during the week, can't speak for weekend), very clean locker rooms with steam saunas/showers/lockers/hair dryers/personal hygiene items/etc...The staff is always so warm and willing to help answer any questions. I wholeheartedly recommend this Y.

Beautiful layout. Wonderful group classes and personal instruction is always available…read more The equipment is well maintained and they have an awesome collection of free weights, machine assisted weight machines, and the track that circles the main floor for walking and running. The staff is very welcoming and it is a comfortable place to workout no matter what time of the day you decide to workout. Attention all Fitness Fanatics! Have you checked out Onelife's New Recovery Rooms? If you haven't,…read moreI promise you, you are in for a treat!. I had the pleasure of trying out the Recovery Room located in Chesapeake Square in Suffolk, VA, hafter a Brutal Leg Day and let me tell you that my experience truly felt Spa Like! !!! This Recovery Room is not only is spacious but felt like an oasis to truly recovery after giving it your all in the gym. The HydroMassageChairs were so RELAXING ! A easy to use touch screen panel allowed me to adjust the pressure of my massage and target the areas of my back that I needed to focus on. I also used the Compression Sleeve Pants.. These bad boys came ALL the way up to my THIGHS! The gently compress my feet, and legs to help improve circulation and reduce muscle soreness and improve faster muscle recovery ‍. These compression sleeves are a total game changer as far as my fitness goals go. Incorporating this recovery treatment into my weekly workout routine will allow me to recover faster and achieve my goals quicker! I am looking forward to seeing how incorporating the recovery room into my workout regimen will help me see my results a lot faster. I came back on a separate day to try out the Red Light Therapy which is supposed to have so many benefits including cellular repair, help with pain, inflammation, some say it aids in toning the skin and even with Weightloss... so hey why not... ‍. It was my very first time having a Red light therapy session. I didn't know what to expect. It was a bit warm but not overwhelming. I did make sure to have water and kept hydrated. Keeping clothes on or fully exposing your skin to the red lights was completely optional. I personally felt like it was a very pleasant experience and felt energized after my session. I will definitely be doing it again! All for an additional $10 a month... sounds like a steal to me.. Can't wait to check out the other features of the Recovery Room like the Res Light Therapy...

Lots of different coaches throughout the week so you are bound to find a few favorites. This is a great spot to start your weight loss journey for sure.

I called corporate and there was no resolve. So I left and went to Norfolk. A much more honest franchise. I had a great experience with the staff and coaches and felt that it's this locations greatest asset. They seem to care, are genuine, and were great giving the instructions and encouraging growth. There were moments when an exercise hurt me (from a semi truck accident) and I would do something else and most would ask what's up. Other times I felt my heart rate was too low and add things with their support (I'm also a cross fitter). Minus the leadership, the short class times, I had a great experience. That is until I moved to the new location and visited back. Having had no issue before or during this session a new unknown club manager, Bianca, contacted me and said my "behavior to her staff and coaches would not be tolerated and am forbidden to come back to Suffolk or great bridge". I shared how odd this was since almost all of my constructive criticism has been with the owner designee directly. I reached to corporate since it doesn't fit the brand also. And they said the franchisee can do what they want. So all that to say while I had a decent over all experience, the coaches and staff according to Bianca and steve have said how terrible I've been to them. I just don't see how that actually happened. But needless to say, dishonesty and ethics is something I will always question at this location and unfortunately now reflect on the coach's and staff. Those things simply never happened. Good luck to those who do try this location. But be careful. Try the norfolk one or burn fit around the corner. Blessings. Rev. Newell, MDiv, BCC.
