We especially love Doce Mercer, known for corporate gift boxes and confections, but here at the local market with homemade Portuguese-style breads like English muffins, Portuguese rolls, and focaccia. Michelle and her daughter Martika offer excellent bread goods, and quite affordable, if not a wee bit underpriced in this economy. We're grateful for the good deals, but want them to stay in biz. We also get our bakery breads from Berkshire Mountain Bakery, because their sourdough breads and pastries are the best anywhere. We find their breads life-changing because they're really breads, made with double fermentation and offering an amazing variety like jalepino-cheese ciabattas, San Francisco sourdough and baguettes. Amazing breads. Tom's honey products and fresh farm eggs is another "can't miss" vendor, who even with the rising egg prices has kept his product very affordable. Also we love Plum Island Jams, which have to be the best on the planet. The pineapple coconut is my fav, but there isn't one I can resist. Of course we love fresh produce, and there are several choices at the market. The rains, Covid and inflation have reduced the number of vendors, but we can only hope with patronage to bring in more. Jody does a great job of managing the vendors and serving her patrons. Families can also find picnic table where they can enjoy food truck fare from hot dogs to ice cream to pizza and more. Then there's the park itself offering great scenery and a zoo.

When prompted for an update, was told that the cook was about to start making our meal (it was pancakes). While we waited we watch 2 other parties come in, get seated and served their meal. From flowers to soaps, vegetables to donuts, fruit to teas, knives to artisan creations, tie-dye…read moret-shirts to smoothies and chili dogs, the South Windsor Farmers Market has it all!! Set in the open Nevers Road Park, this market offers a variety local goods and a fun morning. When my friends and I walked over from nearby parking areas (which were plentiful and easy to get to), the smells of freshly cooked donuts from Faddy's Donut Shop and the sounds of a Grateful Dead tribute band met us. After grabbing some donuts, instead of sitting in the nice rest area set up near the band, we began down the line of stands. We found a little of everything we wanted and more!! We grabbed a couple slices of pie from Granny's Pie Factory, a brown butter dark chocolate chip cookie from LaBrioche Bakery, a couple of jars of homemade artisan teas from Whole Harmony, and a bouquet of freshly picked flowers from the Syme Family Farm. Shopping here can get a bit pricey, for example, a South Windsor Farmers Market tote bag was $5; however, you're supporting local businesses, many of which don't have storefronts. It's well worth chipping in a few extra bucks with the quality of the goods and the personal attention you receive at the stands. I would rather save my money and spend it here than at big chain stores that don't need it. Every vendor we went to, especially the individuals at the Syme Family Farm and the Whole Harmony stands, were extremely kind and helpful. The vendor of Whole Harmony allowed us to try a couple of teas he had out as well as the lavender lemonade (all of which were extremely delicious); he also told me how to properly steep the teas and gave me a loyalty card that offers a free jar after ten purchases. The vendors at the Syme Family Farm stand told me how they handpicked each flower, and wrapped up my bouquet--which was thoughtfully put together with care--and put it in a plastic baggie with wet paper towels around the stems to keep the flowers hydrated after I asked if they would be all right since we were not going directly home. I was very impressed by these two vendors' professionalism and kindness. The South Windsor Farmers Market is definitely a farmers market you need to check out!! It's open every Saturday in the morning (which is an extremely convenient and great time) from the middle of June until the middle of October. The organization running also has a list of what vendors will be there each week on a document on the website. You'll really enjoy every minute of being at this market, and you will undoubtedly find spectacular goods!!

They offer German white hardneck garlic, seed garlic, garlic bulbs, and garlic braids. The farm stand is in an old tobacco barn. I went a couple times and thought it was awesome. The prices were great and they had a huge variety of produce. One time, they posted on social that the flowers were free to pick. If you love fresh produce and supporting a small business, I highly recommend.

"This is the end Beautiful friend…read moreThis is the end Of our elaborate plans, the end" (The Doors) The Garlic Farm's season will end on October 12th, when their doors will be closed for the winter and reopen in the spring. But the end of their season comes with a fantastic bonus for anyone that can get over to West Granby before October 12. That bonus is as many flowers as possible that you can cut and take home from their acres of flower farms. For Free. We saw people out there today with shopping bags, and laundry baskets scooping up their share of gorgeous flowers. Although some of the flowers (especially the sunflowers were way past peak), rest assured there were a ton of gorgeous fresh flowers representing every color of the rainbow still available. We cut and took home enough to fill three vases, of which we kept one and donated the other two to the local Senior Center to brighten the desks of two administrators. So, if you are in the area and have a hankering for some free flowers, set your navigation system to West Granby and enjoy. Just do it before October 12.

Now. it's back on Sundays from 10am-1pm, and the town seems to have provided tables, tents and a lot more space, no longer at the Pond, but now on the Town Green, at N Main and Rte. 5. The vendors are invited to sell their goods with no spot cost, and admission for shoppers is free, family friendly and a fun activity. But, the best part is getting to know the local vendors, who have businesses in town or close by, and who are friendly and helpful, offering many more things than the old one. There is a lack of produce there, but what is there is beautiful and affordable. We got curly kale for $2, and zucchini, eggplant, and yellow squash for $3 each. We recommend these two vendors get cards made so we can review them and bring them more business. There's jewelry, crafts, bath products, masks, beef, soup mix, ice cream, produce (we need more), and freshly baked pizza. And more. We bought a raspberry-chocolate jam at another spot, and tasted it last night--absolutely fresh, home-made and delicious. We will buy some beef next time from Collins Powder Hill Farms, and maybe even go out to the farm in Enfield for other products. These also sell/deliver compost and soil. Wow. We loved Barb Gibson at Super Soups, and had a lovely chat with her about her ingredients. She was researching oils, so we told her to nix Canola and get to know Sustain, the non-GMO sunflower oil. She was friendly, receptive and caring, and that will make us loyal customers. Her 30 minute soup mixes look awesome. Welcome back vendors. We will be there every Sunday till you close September 27, and now that we know you, we will also visit your businesses. Shop local! And thank you to Enfield Town. You did this one right.

"When are you gonna come down? They sell gorgeous locally farmed produce like corn, tomatoes, squash, peppers, cucumbers and beans. Being close to Halloween, we saw scores of pumpkins of every size and description everywhere. Flowers were also well represented with overflowing flowerpots and baskets bursting with color in every direction. They feature two big signs that will catch your attention. One says, "Thanks to All Vets" and another says, "If You Can't Stop, Smile as you Go By". We were on a mission to pick up some cornstalks to decorate the light pole on the front lawn, and we did take home a nice bundle of stalks for $10. It was brimming with humongous ears of corn, which we detached and tossed into the woods, so as to discourage the bears from loitering by our front door. PRO TIP The website on their Yelp page is a broken link. Apparently, they have replaced their website with a Facebook page, which seems to be an increasingly popular trend among businesses.
