Suds n Duds is one of the more quirky venues in the city. Moonlighting as a laundrette, the bar is situated upstairs. I think the general idea is that a password is needed to obtain entrance, but that hasn't been totally implemented yet, so The Bloke and I just walked straight in.
With early black and white movies playing on the TV, mismatched furniture (I think I saw a bathtub being used as a table) and an unusual playlist, it's an eclectic style that I immediately warmed to.
'An enigma, wrapped in a pirate...' That was how the mixologist Steve (aka, one of the funniest men I've spoken to in a while), described himself, and it suited him perfectly. And his cocktails were fantastic too - I had the Blueberry and Amaretto Sour and the Cherry Pie from the menu and then he made me up a Mojito just because they are my favourite. He also made The Bloke, who doesn't drink, a lovely coconut based mocktail (served in half a coconut shell).
It was a fun, relaxed evening, made even better that I had arrived during Happy Hour, which meant each cocktail was half price!
Definitely somewhere I will be returning to! read more
