I came home after being away for a few days and discovered that the water line had frozen. The…read moreTown of Stony Plain assured me that the water outage was not their problem so I called around. After a few telephone calls I discovered that Yellowhead Mechanical is one of the only companies in the area that does this sort of work. We live in a modular home which has a crawl space instead of a basement and not all companies do confined space work. The dispatcher at Yellowhead Mechanical told me he could have someone over in about an hour. Two gentlemen were at my door in about 30 minutes. After some diagnostics, it was confirmed that that heat tape on the water line had failed. Within two hours the problem was fixed and the cost to do so was within the quote I was given. Steve was the technician I talked with. He and his partner were knowledgeable and efficient. I will certainly keep Yellowhead Mechanical in mind for the future.

At that point I didn't have any raw sewage in m y basement it was just water. The owner comes out and snakes only 1 line then asks me to flush a toilet without snaking any other lines in the basement. Well there was a literal crap fountain out of the one access point. I went from having a simple fix to having to get a cleaning crew in to clean up raw sewage. He doesn't charge me for making everything worse and is on his way. I frantically call Roto-Rooter who came out and snaked all lines that could effect each other. Problem fixed, cleaning crew comes and I call this company to get reimbursed for the cleaning I didn't need before they came. The owner hangs up on me (I wasn't swearing or being rude) and acts like he did me a favor not charging me when he made things worse.

Derrick, owner of Modern Home Innovations refuses to pay his subcontractors for the work he hires…read morethem to complete on his projects. We have been working with Modern since Sept 2023. Last year he took over 2 months to pay outstanding invoices. We advised him that we do not do business in such manner and would be terminating our business relationship. He pleaded with us to give him another chance and ensured all invoices would be paid in a timely manner. Per Alberta law, Contractors must pay each subcontractor the amount owed within 7 calendar days of receiving payment from the owner. As a courtesy and on-going business relationship with Modern, we provide 28 calendar days to pay an invoice from date of issue. All of which is clearly indicated on the invoices submitted to Derrick. Since Sept 30, 2024 Derrick has stopped paying his invoices but has continued to have us complete work on various projects. As a result since September he has 7 invoices that are outstanding and need to be paid, totaling close to $10,000. We provided Derrick with the 30 days, following that started to follow-up with him weekly on when we can expect payment. Taking days, weeks to respond he advised he was ill and unable to collect payment from homeowners, he then advised that he was running behind with payments, started to make false promises to pay and as of our most recent follow-up he advised that we were on the "bottom of his list to pay." We advised that if invoices are not payed in full we would be forced to place liens on all homeowner properties we worked on. His response? "By the time you do the paperwork for the liens, you'll be paid in full." Well, we still have not been paid and many of his invoices are now 50- 60 days past due atleast. Per Alberta law, we are required to file a construction lien on the homes we have worked on for unpaid work within 60 days. We have no other choice but to proceed with filing liens against all the properties for which our invoices are outstanding. 7 properties and will be reaching out to the homeowners to advise them of this unfortunate escalation. If you are considering hiring Modern as your contractor please keep in mind that there is a high likelihood that they will not pay their subcontractors and your home will have a construction lien placed on it. If you are considering working for Modern as a subcontractor, don't. You will regret it. This is the 2nd time that they have withheld payment for months and right before the holiday season. This has caused an insurmountable amount of pressure to my small business and finances. My relationship with my suppliers has been compromised as a result of Derrick withholding payment and it has caused a severe strain in my ability to operate. All of these things have been communicated to Derrick. His reply "it is what it is." Modern is not a contractor that operates in fair business practice. They look to take advantage of people that do conduct themselves in fair business practices and exploit their goodwill. I do not think I am being unreasonable by asking that he pay for the services and supplies that I installed and purchased for his jobs. If Modern would like to avoid escalation including court action and to immediately have the liens on properties of their clients removed, we urge them to make full payment for the outstanding invoices. Should the matter go to court, they will be responsible for lawyer fees, supplier interest charges & more.

He told us we needed an inverter which would cost $700-$800 and to contact him if we decide to proceed with the parts. We paid him for his initial diagnosis & later called him to proceed with the repairs. He wouldn't return our phone calls and still hasn't to this day. We had to contact another repair company who properly diagnosed the issue as a burnt out door fuse for less than half the cost of what Jay's Appliance Service quoted us. Jay's Appliance scammed us out of our initial payment thus we strongly recommend NOT to use this repair company!!!!

DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!…read more We had him come out on June 25th to look at both of our dishwashers that were not working. He said one was a pump and one was the main electrical board. Quoted us $700-$800 to fix both and asked for a $225 deposit. Paid him. He said he would order the parts and get back to us in a couple weeks. His return would depend on part availability. Understandable. No follow up, no communication until August 8th when I messaged him for an update. Was told he had a death in the family but would check on our parts the next day and get back to me. No answer, no response. My husband started texting him mid September. He said he had Covid but he would check on parts and get back to us. Eventually, he stopped responding to my husband's daily follow up. Three months and absolutely nothing done. I messaged him and asked him to refund my deposit. No answer. Do not waste your money or your time. Other reviews state this is a cycle of behaviour.
