They're a staple back home, so our expectations were high. The owner happened to be there and confidently recommended the Cuban, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. There was a short wait while it was made fresh, but it was well worth it. The sandwich was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and honestly tasted like a little piece of home. We packed it up and enjoyed it before heading out for an afternoon of tubing, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. The shop itself is charming, clean, and has a welcoming atmosphere where you can sit down and enjoy your meal. The "salad" on top of the meat cheese isn't a wow factor anymore. I used to love getting a number five made Mike's way, on their original (white) bread. But yesterday that sandwich was a sad representation of the sandwich they used to made and serve. No signage telling where to order. We just walked up to the counter as there were three or four employees between the work station and the cash register. We placed our order and had to keep answering the same questions about what we wanted on our sandwich. They were not busy and we were the only ones placing an order. Then we had to ASK to have our sandwich cut. That used to be something they always did. When did that change? The dining area looked clean and has a few tables/booths. The usual surfer photos and such to make it look like the Jersey Shore. Unfortunately, my favorite sandwich shop is no longer my favorite. Maybe this location is different than other Jersey Mike's?
