We have been on a quest to find the best quesabirria tacos in town. I read about this food truck…read morehaving great quesabirria tacos so I decided to find out for myself. The food truck has a nice Facebook page where you can find their weekly schedule. This is very convenient for finding the food truck. It was parked in front of Washlab on University drive. It is brightly colored and hard to miss :) The health department gave them 100 for their last inspection. Excellent score!!! I ordered a combo with 3 quesabirria tacos, a side of potatoes and guacamole with chips and a drink. It was a 7 minute wait to get my food and I was surprised as it was delivered to me. My tacos were filled with soft delicious beef and a container of consommé. Wow! These tacos were loaded with meat and very tasty. The consommé was not too salty nor too greasy. The guacamole was about 2 tablespoons worth with about 8 chips. It was good. The diced red potatoes were so delicious. They were excellent. My combo scores 5/5. From a meat to taco shell perspective, this food truck was 3rd and second in taste. The quesabirria tacos they sell are extremely tasty and I will return to buy more. I saw several things on the menu I want to try. It is impressive they score a 100 health department inspection. If you like tacos, please try the quesabirria tacos. The flavor is different from a taco or street taco. They are several notches up in taste and flavor in my humble opinion. Please stop by and give this locally owned business your attention. They have great food.

I've found my birria hookup in Huntsville!…read more I came by to try Catrina's for lunch last week. This is a food truck, though it's quite a large one and hard to miss with its beautifully pained sides! Most days they seem to not be itinerant and are instead parked in front of the Washlab (next to Shottenkirk Honda) on University Drive. However, they are active on social media and post their location weekly, and they do move around from time to time. Definitely check out their page before going looking for them. They have quite a large menu with lots of traditional Mexican favorites like tortas, sopes, and alambres, as well as some stuff for more American palates like hamburgers and cheesesteaks. I was, of course, after birria, which I ordered as a combo with rice and beans. The combo was fairly pricy at ~$20, but one thing I did like was that it included my choice of an agua fresca -- I chose pineapple this time. Service was very friendly, offered to help answer any questions I might've had, and got my order out to me in a timely fashion. I had no trouble ordering in English; likewise, the man who ordered after I did seemed to have no trouble ordering in Spanish. Win-win! Although the price was a little high, the quantity of food was great and the quality was impressive. My meal came with three quesabirria tacos, rice and beans, consommé, red and green salsas, a fresh lime, and some pickled veggies. EVERYTHING was yummy. The birria was tender and unctuous (though I wish there had been a *teeny* bit more meat), the beans were smooth and smoky, and the pickled veggies were delightfully crunchy and sour. The rice was just so-so flavor-wise, but it was nothing a splash of the delicious and mild-almost-medium heat red salsa couldn't fix. The salsa verde was herbaceous and cooling; my preference was the red but I can clearly see the merits of both! Lastly, my pineapple agua fresca was refreshing and sweet, though not cloyingly so. I finished my meal feeling so excited and happy about what I'd just consumed. The lingering flavor sensations of heat and savory, umami birria brightened my whole day! I will be back when the birria craving strikes again.

Not one to waver from a good thing, I ordered the Hook and Ladder but instead of my usual salt and vinegar chips, I decided to try something new - the macaroni and cheese. I'm so often disappointed when I vacillate from my normal and this time was no exception. The mac and cheese was like soup. Not just a little watery - it was even thinner than a cream soup if that was possible (apparently it was possible). The lettuce floating on top like a garnish did nothing to help the matter. Two bites and that was all I could handle. The sandwich was a mess as served - the meat was all on one end and it was quite overdressed with mayo which made the bun slide around. I did a little rearranging and the sandwich, at least, was as good as I remembered. I can't say I won't be back, that Hook and Ladder will eventually "hook" me back in. Next time, however, there won't be any deviation from my go to meal.

In addition to white or wheat rolls and wraps, you can also choose to have your sub on gluten free bread or in a bowl. My husband usually orders #66, the Portabella Cheesesteak. A hefty amount of chopped steak mixed with fried onions, green peppers and mushrooms topped with melted white American cheese. The sub comes "undressed" so he usually adds lettuce and tomato. When I order this sub, I sub gooey provolone for the more creamy American cheese. Last visit, my husband ordered #13, the Original Italian. That baby was STUFFED with meat. He was only able to eat half of a regular sub and had half the next day. I had a tuna salad bowl which I'd recommend ordering with extra veggies to make a true salad. The sandwiches come dressed "Mike's way" - lettuce, tomato, onion, vinegar, oil and oregano. I always add pickles and banana peppers. You could also add mayo, pepper relish, jalapeños and/or a variety of mustards. I preorder on the app and my sandwiches are always waiting for me by the time I get to the store. The app is easy to use and makes customizing a breeze. Their loyalty program is "My Mike's". You earn points that can be traded for free subs. My usual order is for five subs so reaching freebies isn't very difficult. Our most recent visit didn't go as well as usual. I had a large order and should have checked my bag before I left the store. I didn't receive several bags of chips and one of my bowls wasn't topped correctly. I sent an email through the app and am awaiting a response from the local store. We get together with our family every Wednesday for lunch.
