I had urges to try hot pot for a very long time but always had excuses to avoid it. This was…read moreclearly a bad plan as this hot pot restaurant was fantastic. When I first entered, it was busy. The smell of the combination of different broths and foods filled the air. It did make the room a bit warm but that's to be expecting in a room filled with boiling pots. After sitting down, we were quickly explained how to order on the menu and left alone. We ended up with a dual pot of hot and spicy broth and of tom yum kung broth. I'd like all of the meats and vegetables we ordered but it's best to say that the options were plentiful and I was able to get fresh shellfish. Yes, I could even get seasonal crab, razor clam, and scallop. It didn't take very long for the pot of broths to come out, along with the giant plate of foods we ordered to go along with it. I'm a big eater and even this looked overwhelming to me. And the quality of food matched the quantity. All of the vegetables were clearly freshly cut and the shellfish was clearly fresh. It was a very fun experience to cook foods in the pot. Occasionally they'd come around to add more water to the pot as it boiled off. They also offered to bring us more food. I never needed it but it was good to know I could get it. In hindsight I could have used more crab because it was clearly worth the price on its own. I really would want to go back. It's not exactly a cheap place but at £16.99 per person it was such a good experience that I'd happily go back.

I ate so much fish, even more than when I was at those restaurants I had in China! They also give Chinese lots of other genuine Chinese food as an add-on for free: steamed buns, roasted beef, chicken feet, ice cream.... Lots of appetizers! We had great memories at this restaurant. I would definitely come back whenever I return to Glasgow! What's more, they have Karaoke for free!

There is no way I could make food for myself for less than their prices (even if I could cook). I'll be a weekly regular from now on. They always have promotions, so it's easy to save a bit of money. The staff are very friendly and welcoming too.

Leave your previous perceptions of ready meals at the door, though, as this is restaurant-quality food of the highest standard, with the convenience of being able to pop in on your way home from work, for delicious dishes that someone else has lovingly prepared. You could serve up these dishes at a dinner party, although whether or not you choose to take credit for the cooking is up to you. You can even buy their red casserole dishes which are made to suit the two or four portion packs, would be ideal for serving from and are a pretty kitchen addition in their own right. The owner, David, is passionate about this place and is on hand to help and answer any questions about the food on offer. He was kind enough to check which dishes were vegan-friendly and I'm impressed with the offerings: Thai Butternut Squash Soup, Vegetable and Chickpea Curry, Red Lentil and Mixed Bean Casserole and Mediterranean 4 Bean Casserole. Like the food itself, everything has been precisely prepared with care and attention, from the charming chalk board signs on the wall, to the wicker shopping baskets which I loved. After only a few days in operation, David informs me that they're extending their opening hours to meet demand and that's just the sort of place this is, happy to help, with a customer focus and always keen to accommodate. I think Cook will do well here and it's well worth a visit, to marvel over the beautifully presented, delicious dishes and pick up some good food to impress your pals with.

I knew I had to come and have a look at the new and improved Buchanan Galleries foodcourt. To say…read moreimproved wouldn't be hard as it was just Super Generic Food Court before hand. The Burger King is still in place, however, so if you feel the need for a whopper, you can still get that. The star are the independent retailers though. I'm led to believe they rotate and change with a few regulars staying, so I'm obviously just reviewing what I had from Surf Dog. There were many options from lots of different cuisines, but as soon as I saw a chilli dog, my mind was made up. With the dog for £6, a side for £3 - I had onion rings, rather than the sweet potato fries - and a can of soft drink for £1, my meal came to a reasonable tenner. The Taste Buchanan set up is pretty unusual in that it's made out to be an outdoor garden, only indoors and on the top floor of a shopping centre. Garden benches and school style chairs are the order of the day, and it's a nice touch not to be presented again with generic seating from Bland Furniture R Us or wherever food courts usually go. After a short wait for my food to be prepared from scratch, it arrived. The chill dog was gorgeous, presented with just the right mix of chilli, sour cream and grilled jalapenos to be a total and utter mess to eat... that's the sign of a good chilli dog, folks. The chilli itself was warm and wholesome, not too spicy so the heat didn't overwhelm the taste of the dog, but the addition of the grilled jalapenos meant you could add extra heat if you wanted. Of course I did, because that's how I roll. The onion rings were light, crispy and just ideal for dipping in leftover chilli and sour cream. I would definitely get a side order of those again! To sum up, I love the idea of various retailers in one place and changing from time to time, if they're all of this quality and value for money, then it's definitely going to be a hit. I should remember though, that there is no graceful way to eat a chilli dog in public, although at least this time, I managed to avoid spilling it down my shirt, which is a bonus and unusual.

What a great concept, and so far the offerings have been top notch…read more The idea is simple enough - rotate 'street food' vendors in a permanent space - giving smaller vendors an opportunity in a prime location, and giving us punters the chance to sample the wares of some places we might not have tried otherwise. I was lucky enough to be there on opening night and have been back twice since and I've not been disappointed with the food on offer yet. On the first night I tried a few of the offerings including bao from Chompsky - I tried two, the garlic mushroom, and the pulled pork, both delicious - and a sneaky slice of pizza from Nomad (part of the Firebird team I think). Ohhh and of course I started with ice cream from Equis (hey, it's the first stall you see....). I didn't get over to Union Waffles (look right as you come up the escalator as it's set back away from the other vendors, nor could I fit in any cupcakes by Paige, but there is always next time! I managed to chat to the guy who runs it (and the others) and the premise is that they will rotate every now and then, possibly more often at peak times, but the goal is to bring local vendors, offering quality food, to the masses. I was back last week to try Surf Dog which was also pretty good, a good quality hot dog with crushed nachos and a nice salsa. Downsides would be the layout, which on a busy Friday lunchtime ends up with a long queue of people in one place not realising that you can queue for each vendor independently, and the major downside was the time it took to get our food. Hopefully just teething issues, it'll be a different setup for most of the vendors I'd imagine, switching from a van/truck at a site, to peak lunchtime in the city centre! Price wise it runs about average for a lunch, £5 seems the average for most dishes which, given it's fresh food (unlike the processed guff next door at Burger King) seems reasonable. Anyway I don't mind paying a little extra to get these kind of options in the city centre. I really hope it takes off and is successful, I know I'll be back again! Top tip: get the app (there are signs all over the seating area) to keep up to date with new additions and rotations!

Nothing about the pub quite seems to fit, with the knocked up cheapo style bar decor being the chief offender. The impressive building deserves better. We were in during the day so weren't on the booze, but I noted that it did have a fairly big cocktail list which isn't a standard in the Queen's Park area, and I can have no complaints about the quality or price of the soup and sandwich we had. It all feels a bit sterile though, and if The Church on the Hill wants my coveted 5 star award, they will need to sort out the non-existent atmosphere.

The current lay out is aimed at daytime trade, I think: the food menu is pretty standard, but has a few nice touches, and much of the bar, at least during the day, is laid out like a restaurant. This might be a little ambitious, as most of the customers come in for a quick drink, and the diners are scattered around the large space- hence the lack of atmosphere noted in the other reviews. However, I rather like the anonymity it offers. I meet here if I want to actually have a conversation with somebody.
