    The Italian Sausage - The # 5

    The Italian Sausage

    (128 reviews)

If you're looking for a legitimately delicious deli, look no further--this place is the real deal!…read moreThe restaurant has a wonderfully quaint vibe, with a few tables inside and several benches outside to sit back and enjoy the food. What really stood out right away was the service. The lady taking our orders was incredibly nice and personable, and she actually took the time to walk us through the menu to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. I went with the #5, which is their version of a Sicilian Muffuletta. It was phenomenal. It's stacked with mortadella, salami, provolone, ham, and Swiss cheese, topped perfectly with a red wine vinaigrette chopped olive salad, all sitting on a beautifully toasted seeded loaf. One of my friends ordered the #20 Reuben, and it was a masterpiece. We're talking melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu corned beef, legit sauerkraut from Brooklyn, house-made Russian dressing, and melty Swiss, all piled high between two buttery, toasted slices of marble rye bread. Naturally, I also grabbed a couple of their homemade chocolate chip cookies, and we got a raspberry and blueberry tiramisu that was absolutely terrific. You just can't leave a place like this without hitting the dessert menu! I consider myself very lucky to have experienced this spot. Honestly, if I lived in the area, I'd probably gain 50 lbs--and it would be worth every single ounce!

They have indoor seating and a outdoor patio, plus convenient to-go options. We're excited to return and try more from their menu, including various delicious sandwiches and Italian sausage. The market area was a nice surprise, filled with take-home meal options that promise the same high quality and authentic flavors. I can't wait to return for more! I also love that they offer gluten-free options to purchase for take home as well as to eat in the store or to go. The employee did mention to call ahead to make sure that they have gluten-free bread if you're looking for a sandwich.

It is in a small corner of North Kansas City and looks like a simple little supermarket with an Italian deli inside but the food here is really outstanding!!! They sell authentic Italian food like Italian sandwiches, pizzas, strombolis and moreeee. It was 100% worth the drive from South Overland Park and I am already thinking when I can go again. We went for lunch and ordered the Italian beef sandwich and the Angry Capone pizza. Both were really good and we did not expect it to be this tasty. The Italian beef was cooked perfectly and was tender at every bite with the right amount of cheese and spicy peppers. The pizza was even better!! It had a nice crispy base and was full of good toppings like Italian beef, smashed meatballs, pepperoni, lots of cheese and spicy peppers. I love spicy food so I really enjoyed it. Everything was hot, cheesy, a little spicy and very flavorful. If I have to choose between the two , I would pick the pizza over the sandwich. The supermarket part is also very well kept and offers wide variety of options to buy ranging from groceries to fresh flowers/herbs . Along with the Deli, they also sell homemade barbecue slabs, burnt ends, local Amish food, frozen pizzas, desserts like chocolate cake and vanilla cake, and also dishes like meatballs spaghetti, pasta and many many more fresh frozen grab and go dishes. There are only two tables outside so it is a small and simple set up. I enjoyed my time here and I think you will too 5/5!

The pick-up is so quick and easy - just order online, pop-in, and grab your order off the shelves to the left of the entry door. You can't go wrong with the food here from girl breakfast, to the plain + simple breakfast sandwich, to the pepperjack burrito, to the market bowl, lunch menu and their many many mouthwatering pastries. And don't forget about the coffee! They have both real mugs and to-go cups. I love their regular drip coffee, cold brew, cappuccinos and lattes. The cafe's interior design is modern, chic and comfortable with a mix of booth and table seating. I can usually find a seat for 2-4 people, groups larger than that may have a hard time finding a seat during peak times like weekend mornings. Seasonally, McLain's offers outdoor seating, too. Best of all, the staff makes you feel right at home - welcoming, friendly, helpful, hardworking and clean. Parking is angled street parking out front. Sometimes I have to walk a bit but never more than a block. Just writing this has me craving McLain's already.

Bay Boy - Club sandwich with toasted gf bun and smoked Gouda

    Bay Boy

    (7 reviews)

Bay Boy is THAT Boy! I'm thrilled to have another location of Bay Boy in the Northland, which is…read moresuch an up and coming neighborhood. This Bay Boy is a small window located inside The Commons which is connected to Cinderblock Brewery but, don't be fooled by its small stature it still carries the full menu of the West Plaza location. The one thing it boasts is you can grab a brew from with The Commons bar or from Cinderblock while your sandwich is crafted. And don't fret because these sandwiches are well worth any wait they may take! What makes Bay Boy utterly unforgettable is the Dutch crunch bread. This unique crackly slightly crunchy but still, oh so pillowy soft bread is the perfect vessel to hold all the fillings of any of the sandwiches on the extensive menu. My number one recommendation sadly is not always on the menu but if you catch it you better order it! It is called The Blue Blaze and it consists of juicy white meat turkey, peppery arugula, melty mild white cheddar and locally sourced spicy blueberry jam. It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory with a kick. Another winner is the Wagyu Nebraskan if you want a bougie take on a Rueben. The Wagyu corned beef is locally sourced and is melt in your mouth paired with a slightly sweet kraut, nutty Swiss cheese and the tangy thousand island this sandwich is an elevated take on a classic. Another winner, well let's just face it any sandwich at Bay Boy is a winner winner chicken dinner (in the words of the iconic Guy Fieri), but let's focus on another rift of a classic sandwich the El Jefe. This is Bay Boy's take on a Cubano but unlike its predecessor the bread isn't flat or pressed it's on a Dutch crunch roll like every sandwich on the menu. The mojo pork is buttery and fatty- in a good way- making the meat so moist that combined with salty ham, melted Swiss and zingy briny pickles makes for a killer combination. Don't forget the mustard! And how Bay Boy makes it there own is with an addition of a zesty vibrant red pepper sauce. You can't help but to love El Jefe. I could go on and on about how each sandwich is unparalleled but, I'll just bore you with one more...The Bay Boy, I couldn't cover Bay Boy's without mentioning the sandwich that the restaurant was named after (or was it the other way around) anyways it doesn't matter. The Bay Boy is a cold sandwich (unlike the other ones I mentioned which are all toasty) which may sound simple but, the medley of flavors is paired down perfection. No pile of meats just stand alone Soppressata which shouldn't need any introduction because it's the superior salami. This sandwich gets sauced down with not one, not two but four sauces that make the sandwich anything but dry. Classic mayo and mustard are alongside a creamy pungent garlic sauce and a red pepper sauce, which is a mix of cherry and banana peppers. Then produce is added for freshness, think lettuce, tomato and zippy raw red onions (my personal favorite) with pickles of course! This truly is a sandwich masterpiece.

Finally made it over to Bay Boy in North Kansas City inside the Commons and yeah... I get why…read morepeople keep talking about it. It's a walk-up window, super lowkey, but the food is not playing. I got a turkey sandwich with gouda and peppers, added blueberry jam, and grabbed a bag of chips on the side. The bread is really what sets it off. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, and it actually holds everything together. The turkey and gouda were solid, peppers gave it a little bite, and that blueberry jam added just enough sweetness to balance everything out without being weird about it. I paused after the first bite because it caught me off guard in a good way. Finished the whole thing, chips and all. Simple setup, really good food, and I'll absolutely be back.
