You know, when you enter a Chinese restaurant full of Chinese guests, that means they are great at what they are doing. Same here, the place was full of Turkish customers, so I was confident that this will be an authentic kebab, nothing fancy but good old meat, salad, sauce and pitta. And I was right! Food is great and even though it can busy in the evening, I was always in and out in less than 10 minutes. Their opening hours are great, they also deliver and you can also pre-order for collection.

The menu is pure kebab shop, the usual array of kebabs on pitta, chips or naan, I plumped for the mixed doner on naan. Service was quick, and in the 10 or so minutes I was in the shop, another two punters came in, this was late on a Sunday, so that's a good sign. Home, and I unwrapped the kebab, there was a lot of salad, a lot of sauce and a lot of meat, I demolished it in double quick time and was struggling at the end, so it was literally a feed for £5.70. I'll be back, good late night filling grub,

I live well within the 3 mile radius for delivery. when I got my order, eventually, it was soaking wet. it had clearly been with the driver for a good period of time before he had delivered. when I phoned to ask if the soggy chips and spring rolls could be changed I was told that it wasn't their fault, that there was a bomb scare and that if I wanted them changed I would have to wait for another hour, as they were busy. I got in my car and drove to the take away, within 5 mins, no bomb scare in sight. I demanded my money back, which begrudgingly, they obliged. stupidly, I just got another delivery from them, thinking that it was possibly a 1 off and that lightning dosnt strike twice. WRONG. the chicken curry that was that I had to pay extra for the mushroom was a mushroom curry. I phoned to speak to the chef, again using the term very lightly, to state the obvious. his reply when I asked for him was , "whats wrong this time??" disgraceful. what happened to the customers always right?? the place looks like a dive from the outside and to be honest the staff are clearly lacking any people skills or customer training. my first time writing a review, DONT GET OUT OFF THIS TAKE AWAY IF YOU HAVE ANY STANDARDS AS THEY WILL BE MET WITH DISAPOINTMENT, AND DOWN RIGHT IGNORANCE FROM STAFF!!!!

It has recently been crowned best Kebab shop in the UK which is something that can't go unnoticed. I hadn't been here in a little while until a recent 'secretsupperclub' event was nearby and I thought to myself I must get one soon..... so I did. Like always I would go for the original kebab on bread with salad and the special Sphinx Sauce, if you have not tried this yet you are missing out! The kebab meat is real actual steak / beef pieces which tastes great especially compared to the rubbery meat other Belfast Kebabs have to offer. I speak really highly of this place because it is awesome food, but I do feel the portion sizes have also skimped over the years I also got a chip with my order and the chips literally covered the plastic container they came in and that was it. Even the size of the kebab looks as though it has shrunk down in size. Which is why sadly this is no 5 star rating for the Sphinx. That being said, if you are in the mood for a kebab you have to hit the best in town.... Which is the Sphinx, you will not be disappointed!

I didn't go here for many years after hearing the hype and whilst realising that their praise was a bit OTT, this is a good chip shop, though many people prefer it late night as the kebab place of choice. That is fine by me as they do a kebab that is a damn sight better than what is produced by most Belfast chip shops and eateries. The shop refit has mad the place feel more clean and spacious, and the goods on offer are all well cooked and are reasonably priced. As mentioned earlier the Sphinx sauce they put on chips is amazing, although I am frightened to think what actually goes into it.... oh well, ignorance is bliss!
