We recently switched to SWS after 7.5 years with Republic Services. The pricing is better with SWS, and the service has been outstanding. We live in Eden Prairie. With Republic Services, it was always a challenge to even get someone on the phone. My wife or I always had to wait on hold for 10-15 minutes. One minor thing that irked us every year was Republic forgetting to dispose of our Christmas tree. Each January, we had to call to remind them to get it. This year, they ended up saying they wouldn't dispose of our tree. Every quarter, our bill with Republic crept higher...with no explanation. I can understand an annual rate increase due to inflation, but we were seeing annualized increases of up to 20% with no explanation. As for SWS, they have been ultra-responsive to any emails or calls. In fact, I just called SWS and was shocked to have someone pick up the phone on the first ring! Also, I was able to pay our trash service for one full year in advance, which brought a 8.3% discount to our bill (one month free, so you are paying for 11 months). Highly recommend! read more

I have been a loyal customer for years with Auto pay set up on my account. I had recent fraud on my card and didn't realize my trash payment was on that card. I called to ask why my trash wasn't picked up and the representative was rude. I made the payment and asked for them to make an exception and come pick up the can and said they would for a $25 fee! The driver was on the next street over. This is by no way customer service. Very disappointed. read more

This company enthusiastically participates in the price gouging for waste collection that is common practice in my community. The fact that they are eagerly doing this at a time when people's salaries can't keep up with inflation makes this even worse. They lure in customers by offering competitive prices for a year, maybe two, and then jack up their prices. They also suddenly start "autorenewing" optional annual services like yard waste collection without notifying you -- suddenly you'll just find a significant extra charge in your account for a service you didn't ask for. Don't be surprised to see their prices jump by $40 (!!) between one year and the next. My experience with them is like most other reviewers' who've been with Suburban for a while: their drivers are nice but their customer service representatives are unscrupulous and do not care one bit about their customers. read more

I have no beef with the drivers, because they seem to be professional, and considerate, such as putting your garbage can back in an easy-to-grab placement, and being consistent with pick up times. I DO have issue with the horrible, and unprofessional communication from the OFFICE STAFF though, and it makes it very unpleasant to interact with them. They lie about fees, and they also do not return calls when they are in the wrong. Also, their website is practically useless. read more

guys driving trucks are great but customer service does not care about customer loyalty or service. after more than 10 years I had one issue and they were not interested in me as a client or or my loyal payment history. frustrating to be such a loyal customer and treated like it is irrelevant. read more

Best waste hauling in the Twin Cities. Our former, small hauler retired and sold their business to the garbage king, Waste Management. They provided truly garbage service, increasing our quarterly costs by 10-20%, for almost two years until we quit. Neighbor recommended Republic; equally dissatisfying service experience with hidden costs ($20 for dropping off your new garbage can when you start service??? And again when you cancel?) Finally found SWS, and not only do they offer a consistent, affordable quarterly billing cost, they provide exceptional driver/hauling service (rolling the empty cart into the driveway after emptying), easy and affordable one-time add-on hauling (chair, mattress), and free Christmas tree removal. AND they are they only local hauler who isn't contributing to the landfill problem; they bring when can be burned to the incinerator. Affordable, professional, and clean. Win, win, win. read more

I have been with Suburban Waste after switching over 10 years ago from Waste Management. I have been overall very happy with their service. They are responsive and have helped me with some special pick up needs when I was recently remodeling! In most areas you don't always get choices of garbage, and I think it is a good thing overall to not have a monopoly. I think it is healthy for the consumer and the business's to not get taken for granted. read more

Switched trash service to SWS in Oct 22. They set me up on an annual billing. I paid the year in full. 6 months later, they send me a quarterly bill telling me I'm 90 days late. I call. The woman was very rude and just kept asking for more money. I was transfered to Andrew. He was reasonable and agreed to look into it. About an hour later, another associate said she was the office manager and told me she didnt like the way I spoke to the first lady. She said she was pulling my garbage can, and sending my account to collections. Now I will have to go to court just to get my pro-rated refund on the services not rendered for the remainder of the year. It is like they under bid the business, and now are trying to pressure folks into more money. So much for using local services! I will never work with this company again. Horrible customer service, they will stop your service without notification.

I called because they forgot to pick up a cardboard box that was not in the trash can. The person a (lady) was very rude and didn't care and said you will have to put it in the trash can or an extra charge will be accessed. We have been with them for 20 years and this is the service we get over the phone. When i went to go put the can and take the box back into my house the recycling truck was coming up the street he stopped and was happy to take the box. I told him that i called and was told it would be an extra charge and he said there is not limit for recycling items and nit sure why the lady in the office would have said that. I am going to shop around and see what other are offering after my call with the office at SWS. read more

15 years ago, this was a great smaller company. But things changed about 7 years ago.. Customer service can be nasty or nice. Price now about $128 per quarter, was $75 when I signed up. Now they may add additional charges to bill. Was One price. Told today by rude SWS agent - may not pickup my trash this week at all becuase 5 in of snow. It was not picked up last week either. Cart was out no pickup at end of day last week. Now I have 2 weeks of trash. Looking for alternate pickup options. NEED TRASH SERVICE THAT ACTUALLY PICKS UP THE TRASH. Seems like SWS over sold service, too many customers to service! SWS insulting employee stated (in other words) are you supid, look outside its snowing, why expect trash pickup this week. read more

The SWS drivers I've encountered are great...I've got no issues with them. I do have issues with the office staff--customer service is definitely lacking. I've had more issues with Suburban Waste than with any of my other creditors for the past few years. A few years ago, I took a large hit to my income (around $36K less per year...almost 50% of my income), so I've been scrambling for all I'm worth since that time, and have been able to keep my head above water...barely. With all my other creditors, I've been able to dance that fine line on the edge of the "code-red" past due notices and getting shut down completely. Long story short, I'm behind with everybody, but I'm digging out. My dealings with SWS have been less than helpful. In this latest instance, we were behind on a bill that got our account suspended for last week's garbage pickup on 20 Sept...fair enough, I get it. I crossed the line of "too late" and didn't get garbage picked up. However, I made a payment early on Thursday morning, 23 Sept, at 1:23am (I'm a late-nighter) so I would be covered for my garbage pickup on Monday, 27 Sept (4 days...PLENTY of time!). I was monitoring my bank account all Wednesday night and Thursday morning, and as soon as I saw the funds come into my account early on Thursday morning, I immediately made my payment to SWS for the past due bill. Later Thursday morning, around 8:22am, I received an email back from SWS that referenced my payment--to clarify, it did not say the payment had cleared, but it was clear that they were *aware* of the payment being made earlier that morning. I felt reassured because their website states "payments on suspended account [sic] must be made 48 hours prior to service day to resume service." Great...1:23a on Thursday is approximately 100 hours prior to my service day and time...Monday, around 7:00am to 8:00am. That's twice as much time as they stipulate on their own website. No problem, I'm in the clear. Except I'm not. Around 10:00am, I noticed that my garbage was not picked up on Monday morning, and I immediately emailed them to let them know so they could send someone back to pick it up. I received an email back from them saying "we just received your payment today, and route sheets were printed on Friday." They also said that they'd check with the driver to see if he could swing back to pick it up. I emailed them back mentioning my previous email conversation on Thursday at 8:22am in which the customer service agent specifically referenced my payment. The second email response said "How did you make the payment? It can sometimes take up to 3 to 5 days to be applied on your end." Wait a minute, whatever happened to the 48 hours? Is it 48 hours or is it 3 to 5 days? Regardless, I emailed them back to let them know I made payment online through their website and provided them with the *full* details of my transaction--including date, time, card used, transaction code, authorization code, etc...and I heard nothing back. So, I called this afternoon around 2:15pm and talked with the most recent person I'd been having an email conversation with. She offered the same justifications...they hadn't received my payment, the route sheets are printed on Friday, the driver couldn't come back. I challenged her on that. I drove a school bus for years...and we received our route sheets *each morning before we left on our routes*...not the day before, but on THAT day. We would show up between 5:30am and 7:00am (depending on our route) and get our route sheets at that time. Her justification was that the office doesn't open until 7:30am. Well, maybe it's time to start opening the office earlier so someone can be handing out the latest, most up-to-date route sheets on the morning of...NOT the morning before (especially if a Monday pickup means the route sheets are handed out 3 days before on the previous Friday morning). When I challenged her about the timing of my payment and the fact my garbage wasn't picked up even though my payment had been made 100+ hours previous, not just "48 hours"...she mentioned something about it being measured in days they're in the office--translation: business days. Well, if your standard is "business days" and not "48 hours"...then it's time to make a change to your website. Here's the upshot...I paid them at 1:23am on Thursday morning (4 days / 100+ hours before my scheduled pickup), and they still didn't pick up my trash on Monday morning. So, if you're dealing with SWS, make sure that you're paid up a full week before your pickup happens, because it's likely their ineffective system will not pick up on the fact that you've made that payment until it's too late. They need to: 1) get their misleading "48 hour" instruction rectified on their website 2) get someone in the office earlier so route sheets are handed out ON the day of pickup (like 100% of school bus companies do each and every day) 3) tune up their customer service...I was talked over several times read more

Have had SWS as our trash collection company for several years for both commercial and residential services. Their customer service and actual job of picking up trash bins has gone drastically downhill in the last couple of years. The office staff are horrendous witches, and the drivers lie and are incredibly lazy. We canceled our commercial dumpster first, but had to cancel residential as well after the office "lady" called us liars. They skipped picking up our bins multiple times, then throw a fit when we call to have them come back. Multiple times they have somehow dumped recycling all over our road from our bins as well as two other neighbors. They then proceed to try to blame it on us customers. We've watched them empty our bin, then take photos of empty bin and report to the office that we had no trash to pick up. This only matters because they lied in the first place about not picking up our trash. It was a great company before it sold out. Now owners, management and office staff are flat out horrendous, and the driver we had is a liar. read more

Use this company in Cologne, MN and have had good experiences with them. I originally picked them in 2020 because they were lower than the competitors but they respond quickly to emails and charge $10 for large item pickups (toilets etc.) which is not bad in my opinion. I like that they are a smaller local business. Zero complaints with this company. My bill has increased once every year by about $7.50 per quarter from 2020 to 2022 but with fuel prices and inflation on the rise, that makes sense. read more

This company needs better customer service. I called today questioning my bill and the lady I spoke to sounded nervous. She had the authority to make our situation "right" and she refused. I guess they have gotten too big to care about a customer who has been with them since the beginning. read more

Over the two years I had service with Suburban Waste I essentially had to act as part of their billing staff for my own account. Both years they offered a discount on weekly garbage service if paying for a full year upfront. The problem is they do not treat garbage service as it's own service or credit. They lump everything they offer into one pool and just put the amount pre-paid into that single fund. When I signed up for yard waste later in the year, and other times when I needed oversized junk hauled away I was not billed separate amounts for those services. Instead they just used up the discounted annual pre-payment I had already made for garbage and then billed me a remaining balance. This causes the garbage pre-payment discount to become immediately useless as it allows them to charge for garbage service again in the same year. The advertised discount never came through since they applied that payment inappropriately to other services so they could reset the clock on billing my next year of garbage service early. Both years when I discussed this with the main office they gave me explanations of it being a limit of their billing system and that they would look into it. Both years nothing changed so I changed companies. When I was ending both garbage and yard waste service they tried what many companies seem to try in keeping the remainder of my pre-paid yard waste payment while refusing to actually provide the service for the paid term. With some persistence I was able to get the unused portion of yard waste service properly refunded at least. read more

I had the garbage collection service from this company for four years. They were good at picking up the garbage on time. However, they raise the fee every year for the past four years. I am using 35 gallon bin and I end up paying more than my neighbor who is using 65 gallon bin. So, I switched to garbage man at end of this May. I also terminated the yard waste with them. I called them at the beginning of June to request for partial refund for the remaining 6 months(June to November) of yard waste service. They said they will have decision by the end of June. But, they never give me response until today I call them again, they refused to give me partial refund. I read the billing statement. There is no single term said the fee is non-refundable. I am so disappointed with their attitude. read more

I paid my July 2017 bill online and must have inadvertently put in the incorrect account number for my checking account. I received a letter from them a week later that I should run the payment again. The letter also referenced the 'original' invoice which was $50.99. I immediately went online and paid again via my checking and the payment went through. What I wasn't aware of is that they tacked on an additional $20 charge to my bill with no explanation. When I called inquiring about the $20 charge, it was explained to me that it was a charge the bank charged them when I inadvertently put in the incorrect account number the first time. I pointed out that nowhere in the letter they sent or on the invoice was there an explanation that I'd be charged $20 for my gaff. I requested that the bank charge be reversed. Jenny, the manager, said 'no'. When I requested to speak to someone above her she said she's as high as I could go. I again requested that the unexplained charge be reversed as there was nothing in writing explaining it. Again, "No" was the response I got. I said I may want to cancel my service. She said once I paid the $20 charge she'd start the process. When I said "what would happen if I didn't?", she said it would go into collections. I am frustrated because I have to take their word that the bank actually charged them $20 - there's no written proof that they were charged the $20 by the bank. I am also frustrated that the payment could have gone through initially if no checking account matched up to it. It wasn't until after I got verification that I'd made my payment on 7/18 and my Suburban Waste Services account was credited that it was discovered that my payment didn't go through. Their system should have caught that the rejected my initial payment. I have always paid my bill on time and in the interest of keeping their customer relations in good standing, they should have reversed the charge and taken it as an opportunity to improve their process - not alienate a good paying customer. I will be paying by written check going forward. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I will retain their services. Very disappointed in the attitude. read more

I have been a customer of Republic Services for about 5 years. I had someone from Suburban Waste leave a flyer on my door 3 months ago. I called and talked to Ross and they were able to save me $20 every 3 months compared to what I was paying with Republic. Due to the fact that I had just got done paying Republic Services for the next 3 months Russ ingested just staying with Republic and then signing on with Suburban Waste at the beginning of June. I procrastinated which I will admit is 100% my fault. And I did not call Republic Services to cancel until two weeks ago. When I called them and told them what Suburban Waste could do for me Republic was able to save me an extra $20 on top of what Suburban Waste could save me every 3 months so needless to say I stayed with Republic. I procrastinate it again my fault. When I got back home from Memorial Day weekend the trash cans from Suburban Waste or in my driveway. When I called Suburban Waste on May 29th and tell them what had happened and that Republic was going to give me a better rate instead of even attempting to give me a better rate the girl that I spoke to on the phone told me that they were going to charge me $100 to come pick up the cans and they would not pick up the cans until $100 is paid. She was very rude and condescending. I then called again and spoke with manager Chelsea she was also rude and condescending but after trying to reason with her she agreed to only charge me $25 to pick up the trash cans when I told her that I have not used the service yet and I did not sign a contract and that it is technically not even June yet and that I shouldn't have to pay anything she blamed me for waiting so long and said that there's nothing else that she can do and that if I want to let the bill go to collections then I can do that. Again neither one of these employees once even attempted to offer me a better deal. Their employees are rude do not do business with them. read more
