Absolutely atrocious customers service - I've never tried so hard to give a company my money and have them blunder it so bad. Buckle up... this will be a long one but I feel it's important to document everything to ensure people know who they're dealing with. Bought a house earlier this year and the Propane Tank was owned by Suburban, so figured they would be my first call when it came time to fill it in the winter. We were at about 20% left when I first called Suburban on November 30th - I called stating that the house has their propane, and I want to start new service. The woman on the phone told me she'd set me up as a new account. This is the first issue... She told me she had some other accounts to set up once she took my information and she'd call me back later that day - unsurprisingly, no call back. So I reached out the next day and that woman was "out on emergency" and wouldn't be able to help until they got back. I told that person I just needed to fill my tank, happy to pay up front - just want to schedule it because it's getting low. Nope - need to have an inspection first - for a house that's had their service for 10+ years. Weird... but I'm new to this. Ok, when can you come do the inspection? Their answer - CHRISTMAS EVE. 3+ weeks after my first call, they couldn't get someone out until Christmas Eve. We're now down to about 10% propane at this point. Did they come Christmas Eve? NOPE. Their tech was "sick" and couldn't come out. Ok... we're getting to dire straights. When can you get someone out? Not until the following Tuesday. Got no choice... but hopefully the propane will hang on until then. It's now December 30th - a full month since my call for new service and I receive another phone call - "Sorry, our truck is broken down. We can't get anyone out there today." Now I'm fed up - I'm literally trying to give you all my money, I just need propane! I don't know why we need an inspection first but can you expedite it at this point? We've got holiday parties this weekend and need this fixed - NOW. "I'll have a manager call you back today" - Did that happen? NOPE. But... they did call back and apologize for the mix up. In that conversation they also dropped the "Oh, did anyone inform you about the Inspection Fee? It's going to be $129" WTF?! Literally never mentioned once in the number of times we chatted. They "might" be able to waive that fee... they'll check. Ok - well what's your price of propane right now ... get ready for this... $5.09. FIVE DOLLARS A GALLON. Insanity - No other company right now is even REMOTELY that high - I gasped... like audibly gasped. The woman pauses and responds "Well... we may have some new customer discounts available" - "WELL I AM TRYING TO BE A NEW CUSTOMER BUT YOU'RE MAKING IT VERY HARD" I responded. She apologizes, puts me on hold, and then comes back offering $3.79 a gallon. How convenient they can just "find" a lower price like that. Ok fine.. that price is good. What are we doing about the inspection fee and the insane inconveniences here? This is where it gets good... She comes back and says "Ok, because we messed up, we will waive the inspect fee and we will give you your first fill for $1.99/gallon." That price sounded AMAZING. Were they almost about to go above and beyond for catastrophically messing up?! Nope... They had nobody that could come out to even do the site visit. I left it that day with a "Can I PLEASE have a Manager or someone with some authority actually call me back, and figure out what we have to do to get your service? I literally have money I want to give you and you can't figure it out..." They never called back. Again. In the meantime I'm running critically low on propane and with no hope in sight of getting it fixed, I called an audible... I called Haffners on a Wednesday. Had their tank installed by Saturday, and have propane now from a company that followed up, called back, and actually wanted my service. We had a report of a propane smell here at one of the tanks at our condominium units. Technician Amie out of the Milford office was quickly dispatched. They left me Without Oil !!! They never made the automatic delivery in December due to a lack of drivers and Never Notified Me !!! When I had no heat before this storm I had no idea I had no oil. They offered no recourse. They still have no drivers. I still have no OIL. Im a nurse and after working a 3 day wkend in the storm I've come home to my freezing cold house to figure out what to do. I am not a Suburban customer but the previous owner of our home was. We had underground propane tanks installed and were left with two above ground, large tanks. I called Suburban to ask if they would pick them up and had such a nice experience with Pam in their office, who hunted down the old account and arranged to have the tanks picked up. When making calls of this nature you brace yourself to be mistreated, so this was such a pleasant surprise. I am sorry that others have not had such good luck with them, but wanted to pass along a positive interaction. read more

(Preface, I dislike writing negative reviews unless it's truly necessary) I write this unfortunately because the company cares little for anyone that decides to cancel their services. I was a customer for 10 years and paid all my bills. Once my tank seal failed and I was told I'd need to upgrade to a larger tank (I use it exclusively for cooking) or end their services. I opted for the latter because we never used all the propane in a given year for the tank size we already have. Upon me requesting them to remove our tank, I was told they put us on the schedule for tank removal (4 weeks out). 4 weeks seemed excessive to me but I said fine as long as I can get rid of the tank. We're now 6 weeks out, still have tank and told it'll be another 3 weeks (fingers crossed but don't believe them). Find yourself another company to work with if you have the opportunity. read more

I live in a complex of over 200 homes. About 80% use propane. Suburban was very unwilling to negotiate a contract fixed price. Their prices have always been the highest. Another company was very willing to contract with us at a fixed price, with no minimum delivery. The price is about two thirds that of Suburban. A no brainer to switch. Other problems with them, but won't go into detail here. One positive, the woman who answers the phone is always pleasant. read more

I live in Southern New Hampshire and unbeknownst to me I was paying almost double the going rate for Propane. I have been gouged by this company for over 10 years. When I finally investigated the going rates for Propane I discovered Suburban was charging $4.00 per gallon while competitors were selling Propane for $2.25 - $2.60. As you can see Suburban charged almost double the going rate. They are unapologetic about selling propane at exorbitant prices, they just don't care. If you don't want to throw away money don't do business with this company. read more

This company is extremely dysfunctional and unorganized. They send you letters that they deny your credit and then show up and fill the tank without your knowledge and leave you a bill! You call to speak with a "manager" they tell you to disregard the letter and they work out a payment plan with you. Then a few weeks later they call you back to tell you that you owe them $400.00 deposit because your credit wasn't good enough!! Funny a few weeks back I was told to disregard the letter because my credit is fine. Oh and they do not document calls. Their inability to comprehend a simple request deems them as a less than mediocre company that I would never recommend to anyone. read more
