Copied from my Google review: I'm going to vent a bit. I got a fill up today, 04 March 2025, and they charged $6.21/gallon. The EIA dot GOV websites states that the Maryland delivered to home cost per gallon as of 24 February 2025 is $3.785/gallon. Another local company, Taylor Gas, is currently as of today, 04 March 2025, $3.30/gallon. It blows my mind that Suburban is so simply robbing customers in Southern Maryland. After I called and complained, they gave me a 20% discount (now $4.968/gallon). That is still 50.55% higher than what Taylor Gas charges. If you have the option to go to just about any other provider in Maryland, maybe you should. But... but, if you have a tank with Suburban at your home that you bought with the tank already installed, you are stuck in their lease (which costs roughly $48/year). That is not bad, right? You cannot buy your way out of the lease in order to use other suppliers for much lower costs. You are stuck. If you want to cancel service with them, then you will have to get that tank remove (out of the ground) at your cost. Why can't you buy out of the lease, because their lawyers gave them the great idea to state that the tank is used and they cannot sell it to anyone. Where is D.O.G.E. where you need them? This sounds like a bad dream and it is. Suburban Propane should be avoided at all costs... read more

The staff is friendly but the price for propane is always a lot higher than the states national average. A few times it was over double the average. We had suspected gas leak months ago when we called to schedule a refill we told them we aren't using the gas this fast and they never told us they tested it at all. I found the leak myself and they came out to repair it, I lost hundreds of dollars in lost propane over a few month time and they still charged me for the repair, apparently we own the gas line running from the tank to the house. This was very disappointing because we asked them to check for a leak and they never did, we have a half empty tank AGAIN. We are billed for the repair and we are also stuck paying for all the lost gas. Sorry to say but we will be shopping around before we refill this time. read more

Absolutely horrible business practices! No fee schedule exist. Zero transparency. Online and office systems do not communicate with each other ie. a request online is not posted to the local office, so when you call to inquire, they "don't know what you are talking about" read more

I didnt want select a rating because they don't deserve one. I was a new customer til I kept getting the runaround. We took over the tank with suburban after we moved in our house. We couldn't get a delivery of propane after calling for 3 weeks after the inspection. We ended up canceling suburban. Called a more dependable company and they were gladly to take us on as a new customer. They came out on the next available day which was 3 days later and installed a tank and the following day the propane was delivered. And 7 weeks later still to this date, 3-1-24 the empty 130 gal tank still sits on my property. ‍ Think twice before using suburban propane. read more

Lost heat and hot water because they forgot to refill the tanks, even though my landlady says she had an auto-refill agreement with them. After almost a week now of having no heat in subzero weather, and being told every day that we were on the emergency list and someone would be here "soon", I finally received a call at 9:30pm from a guy who said he had two more houses to do and then would get to me, but he didn't even give an estimate of when he'd arrive. I waited for two hours then fell asleep, and woke up to find a missed call at almost 1am. I'm done. Apparently they are simply not capable of doing their job at all, so I'm switching to another company. I've given up entirely on them ever being able to fill my tanks, and wouldn't even mind waiting longer for heat if it meant never having to deal with them ever again. read more

My house came with a 500 gallon tank when I bought it and it was used to heat the house because there was no heat pump. Now I have a heat pump so I buy less than 300lbs of propane a year. Suburban used to charge $10.00 dollars a year to rent the tank but this year raised it to $65.00 The bottom line seems to be that since I don't spend alot of money on fuel that I don't need suburban feels like they should squeeze money out of me somehow. I dont like it when companies try and rip me off or get leverage on me, so I told them they can get their old rusty tank off my property. I'll buy my own tank and not get ripped off on fuel prices with endless made up fees. They are coming to steal the fuel I already purchased from last winter because I won't pay the increased rent from not buying enough fuel. Get all that? I'm cutting my losses. 0 stars read more

I would rate this PROPANE company better if I could actually buy PROPANE! Seems simple enough, but I took our tanks to be filled and parked right by their scales and bulk tank. Three people greet you as you walk in, but no one can fill your propane tanks. Does it take a special skill that I'm not aware of?! They did offer for me to leave them there and pick up another day - seriously!? Let's make life easier and sell propane to people when they come to your propane company! read more

Seriously if I could give them zero stars I would. I've been dealing with an incorrect bill and their extremely poor customer service for over a year. I finally paid them because they threatened to cut my service even though ALL I WANTED WAS FOR THEM TO CORRECT MY BILL. I wasn't asking for discounts or anything unreasonable. I was told by multiple employees that this would be resolved. Lies. I was told multiple times that our deliveries wouldn't be put on hold until this was settled. More lies. I wrote a letter to their customer service team 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard back. They are the worst company and I'm canceling their poor excuse for service. read more

We ran out out of propane around 6:15 pm. We called Suburban Propane and were quickly connected to a customer service person. After a quick conversation, we were told their on-call delivery truck would be contacted. Less than 30 min later the truck showed up. We were filled up for less than $400! Great job! read more

This company has no problem allowing toddlers and young children to suffer in freezing weather with no heat and no hot water. When our propane unknowingly ran out yesterday we were faced with no hot water, no heat, no way to bathe, shower, wash dishes, etc. We called today and the soonest they could fill us is Friday! So our children (ages 2 and 6) have to suffer all week! They offer an emergency fill for an extra $150, but they refuse to do a partial fill urgently! A full fill is over $1000, which is impossible to come up with such short notice. We can afford a partial fill but they refuse to give us a partial fill unless we wait all week. It's now in the 50s in our home, we have no hot water, and are unable to bathe, shower, or cook. Suburban Propane claims to support the military, but both my husband and I are active duty, and they still refuse to help. Pathetic customer service Suburban Propane. read more

BEWARE - if you sign up for a lease program with Suburban you have a required minimum yearly charge. You are never sure when they are going to show up to fill the tank (could be fall, could be winter). This year they came in Feb and only filled 3 gallons. They charged us the minimum delivery charge of $50 plus the gas so our bill was $62 for 3 gallons. I'm pretty sure I needed more than 3 gallons by Feb. They thought this was OK. We cancelled the service so they came and picked up the tank. Today I got a check for $47. They charged us $150 pick up fee and $48 to empty the tank. BEWARE. read more

This is the worst propane company I have dealt with from delivery to customer service. Some home builders in Southern MD have decided to partner with this company, not allowing the buyer to make their own choice. Once you sign on the dotted line you are stuck. Ask questions up front, make your own choice of propane company, if you have to buy your own hot water heater or whatever Suburban is "throwing in" pay for it yourself. Get your propane from a company that wants its customers to be satisfied. All you have to do is look at the reviews for Suburban, make your own choice. You will be glad you did. read more

This company is predatory. We bought our new home and they sent us a letter stating they owned our tank and we had a month to sign a contract or they would remove it. Later that day they showed up at my house and tried to fill the tank, my husband asked him what he was doing and he said the people at the office told him to fill it. I emailed to ask for documentation of their ownership of the tank, since the tank was 25 years old and the previous owner said they never showed him proof; they never provided me with documentation. I decided to wait the full month to make a decision. I smelled propane in the yard so I contacted them. They checked it for leaks and after they found none, they capped the lines. My husband felt that was a high pressure tactic to force us to sign so he called them and offered to buy the tank, they said it was a liability issue and refused. He told them to get their tank so they did the next day. I will never purchase propane from them based on their tactics. read more

After having Surburban Propane for almost 22 in the RV Park, my husband got laid off and on ti the next job. After 6 weeks of no refund I called Surburban, they stated $110.00 left in tank,BUT since there was propane in tank they charge you $150.00 removel fee. So nothing back, what a crock. read more

I've been a customer for years, ever since United went out of business. They do a pretty good job, mostly due to the workers. The office always seems to somehow get the details wrong, or the address. And it seems like there is no communication between office workers. Might be due to the main office now being in New Jersey. That said, the guys who actually deliver the gas and make the service calls are wonderful. read more

They have horrible customer service and outrageous prices. You can call every time they fill your tank to negotiate the price, and they will match the competitor, but I should not have to do that each time. They should offer competitive prices, not several dollars per gallon over what the competition offers. After canceling with them three weeks ago, I am still waiting for them to come pick up their tank. I call once a week and speak to Janet. She assures me that she will take care of it but they never come to get it. I have now received a bill for another yearly rental fee for the tank. The worst customer service I have ever experienced with any company in any industry. They are even worse than Comcast and I thought that was hard to beat. read more

I have their propane service for my gas fireplace. I'm on automatic delivery and during the winter months whenever there is a big storm predicted they always come and fill up the tank before it hits. read more

Suburban Propane charges much higher fees than their competitors. When you try to negotiate with them they are rude and condesending. If you are with them, the fees to get the tank removed are crazy! Stay away from them. Call around and ask what all their fees are. Suburban sneaks fees in: they say they don't have a delivery charge, but everytime they deliver they call it a safety fee. read more
