We've used other boarding facilities out of state, but this was the first time leaving our girls in NY. We needed somewhere we could have peace of mind, and they exceeded our expectations! The Farmingdale location is gorgeous. It's spacious, beautifully laid out, and so clean that you can't detect a dog smell. In order to make a reservation though, they did have to schedule a two-hour temperament evaluation prior to their stay. Once that was completed, we were able to continue on with finalizing our reservation. They offered two suite options, the Comfort and Imperial. Jacquelyn was a pleasure to work with. She was kindhearted, friendly, and really supportive in organizing their stay. She was the primary staff member who assisted us with check-ups, updates, occasional pictures, and check-out. Initially, our dogs may have been reserved, but afterwards, they were definitely excited to be there. My husband & I could tell they had a great time. Not only were they happy but the exit bath pampered them even further. Yeah, they were spoiled and will continue to be spoiled! We plan on bringing them here for our future vacation needs. I brought my dog in for a scheduled grooming appointment, and despite there being only one other dog there when I arrived, she was kept for approximately six hours. During that time, she was not given any water. When I picked her up, she was terrified and acting completely unlike herself. She reeked of strong perfume, it barely looked like any grooming had been done, and she was crying all night The most upsetting part was how she behaved afterward. My dog was clearly scared and traumatized after the appointment. She acted completely differently than normal, and my sister's dog, who was also groomed there, was shaking all night and wasn't acting like herself either. Seeing both dogs react this way was incredibly concerning. Our pets can't tell us what happened, so we have to trust the people caring for them. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this groomer. I hope sharing this review helps other pet owners make an informed decision before leaving their beloved dogs in their care.

My original review for this business 7 years ago was middle of the road at 3-stars, because while they did keep my dogs alive for a week, they lacked even the most basic customer service skills and were frankly very rude and standoffish, which you can read about in my first review below. After posting my review, the male owner of the business, Smitty, verbally attacked me on Yelp, which he has now edited, and I changed my review to 2-stars (however, you can still get a general gist of what he said in my updated reply to him). Now after being stalked online and having a libelous review posted about my business, I think an update to 1-star is fair. Customer service really doesn't get any worse than what is provided by the owners and associates of Smitty's Kennels. They're not just bad business owners, they're unkind people. Reviews on alternate websites are available with a quick google search of their business name where you can see the owner, Smitty's, interactions with other unhappy customers, or as he and Sandy apparently like to call them publicly for all new customer prospects to see, "Chronic Complainers". Who does business like this?? It's really not that hard to provide decent customer service - the only main component is not being an asshole which both of these business owners are through and through.
