Given how busy the place was, we figured the bar would mean faster, more attentive service. We were very wrong. We ordered two beers, a non-alcoholic drink, and three appetizers. The drinks arrived, and the appetizers followed about 10 minutes later -- fine so far. But there were no utensils. We had to ask for them, and we asked for plates as well, which never came. The empty dishes from our appetizers sat in front of us for a solid hour with no one clearing them. The bartender who took our order never once checked on us. With 3-4 people working behind the bar, only one server approached us during the entire 40-minute wait between appetizers and dinner to ask if we needed anything. The bartender told us twice that our food was "coming out shortly" -- and still, 40 minutes passed. When dinner finally arrived, my order was wrong. I ordered the Mongolian Short Rib, listed clearly under the Entree section of the menu. The bartender claimed I had ordered off a "happy hour" menu -- one I never saw or was told about -- and had swapped it for BBQ Pork Ribs without saying a word. Knowing a replacement could take another hour, my friend swapped plates with me and took the ribs. He had ordered the steak frites, which, for a rare steak, should have taken no more than 5-6 minutes to prepare. The third entree, fish and chips, was just okay -- a bit soggy and not particularly fresh. To top it all off, after everything we dealt with, the bartender never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. The food has potential, but the service was inattentive, disorganized, and frankly unacceptable for a busy restaurant that should know better.

It has jalapeno, heaps of cilantro, and muddled avocado to tie it all together. Very fresh and pleasant. Pastrami sliders were also tasty, but I would venture to say they are a little too bready for an appetizer, but nicely done otherwise. My go to entree is of course either the hanger steak or filet with fries and semi traditional bistro sauce, can't go wrong there. I have only seen 2 deserts on the menu, but there might be some special appearances from time to time. The do not miss item there is the Basque cheesecake. Which is basically a cheese forwards cheesecake without a crust, and somewhat reduced sugar content versus it's American cousins. Very good, and served with a berry coulis. The only trespass I experienced was with the wine list. It's overall somewhat expensive for what's listed, and on my last visit two bottles I had ordered were out of stock. That being said there are good picks here from Premier Cru Chablis to Faust Cabernet Sauvignon.

The guests around us looked as stunned as we were, including the women waiting behind him to be seated. Before we left, I verified his name with another server, and Eddie yelled at us for doing that, too. Then we walked straight out. I later learned the owner of this bar is named Eddie. If that is who screamed at us, then there is no manager to complain to and no reason to expect anything to change. This was our second visit. The food the first time was honestly bad, but we gave it another chance since everywhere else was full. Now I understand why this place had open tables on a game day. The location is a bonus, close enough to the trail that we parked once and made a full morning of it. We got there close to opening, and with World Cup later that afternoon the wait was nonexistent. Good timing on our part. The vibe inside is cool and laid back, exactly what you want after a morning outside. Service was friendly from the jump, and the bar clearly knows what they're doing. They make a great Carrajillo, which for me is a non-negotiable bonus. On to the food. I went with the Eggs Benedict and they were top tier, great flavor, well made, and came out fast. My wife got the jalapeño biscuits and gravy, and I'm genuinely glad she did because I was torn between that and what I ordered. I ended up getting bites of both, which was the right outcome for everyone. Both were phenomenal. This one is an easy add to the rotation. The trail, the food, the Carrajillo, it all works together. The space is laid out in a way that seemed to cut down on the overall noise which was nice, and the seats were comfortable. We were sat inside and I could see that there was further seating in an outdoor area that also looked cute. Our drinks and food were pretty good. Nothing mind-blowing, but very reasonably priced for what you get and the dishes had good portion sizes. We left more than satisfied! Our server was nice but overall kind of slow, especially towards the end. It took a while to be able to request our checks so we could pay and head out.
