I've been to substance a few times now with mostly positive experiences. But DEAR GOD, they have to do something about the AC/temp in there. I was there last night and it felt even hotter than outdoor midday Vegas heat. I have never been so sweaty and overheated at an indoor venue at night, this venue included. Immediately when you walk in from outside you are hit with this humid, HOT, stagnant air. I know something is off with it because there are certain small pockets (hallway to bathroom) that are drastically cooler. Substance is not a large venue, and they have big names perform there. They should be able to either repair what's broken or add more coolers/AC. I have NEVER left early from a rave/festival/performance. But last night my friend and I couldn't take it anymore and left mid-set because of the stifling heat. Do better substance, that shit ain't safe! Also, why were the girl's bathroom attendance hoarding the paper towels?! It seemed when I didn't tip them the first time I went in (if I have cash on me or I used their products or whatever i usually leave them a little something at the end of the night) the paper towel dispensers were empty next time I used the restroom yet the attendants were holding tons of towels but not giving any out to anyone that wasn't going to tip them?! I had to walk out with wet hands each time I used the restroom for the rest of the night while the attendants would watch me wiping my hands on my clothes with all of the bathrooms paper towels in their hands. Why do I have to tip you for a paper towel that I can grab myself and then when I don't I'm denied a basic item any patron would expect to have access to? Very annoying. read more

Came across this spot after leaving a nearby Piano bar. The music was thumping so we decided to check it out. Drinks were good. Music was very good. The people were nice. DJ Tchami was set up and I hadn't heard him spin before. The priest outfit was a little unnerving at first. I was really interested to see how this venue would be, it seems like it has mixed reviews. The show I went to was 10 stars- all the way! I saw Joe Kay and Tim Tones and it was an amazing party that went until three in the morning! So I have no complaints at all about the sound, the vibe, the lighting, and the big LED screens -- all that stuff was good :) Really only two things I didn't like about the venue-- they don't provide tapwater. I think that's lame. You have to buy a bottle of water for $7. People should be offered free water. They're dancing, they're sweaty. That might require them to drink more water and they shouldn't have to pay $7 a bottle to stay healthy & hydrated. Like if people want bottled water, of course sell it to them, but I didn't want bottled water. I just wanted a cup of ice and tap water and they will not give you that. I also don't like the bathroom situation with the "attendants" that are in there. It just reminds me of like old time grimy club in Tijuana, where you have to tip them to get a towel. What is that about? So anyway, I had a great time at the show. The drinks were priced as you would expect. I had a Tito's and soda with lime for $17, that tracks plus it's Vegas -- all drinks are expensive. I didn't love the place. I didn't hate the place. I give four stars and encourage the management to give people free tap water. read more

Cool venue downtown. Saw Joe Kay last night and he was killer! Ive only attended one concert so far but really impressed theyve booked ppl like Troyboi, Jauz, Habstrakt, etc. Tips: move your gum and other stuff into your clothing and bring earplugs. Security was nice but threw my gum away and didnt let me grab some pieces before. Rest of staff was nice and bartenders were nice and attentive, they gave me earplugs when i asked. Waterbottles only. Cocktail portion generous and not bad think it was $15 Love the screens and lighting but sound could be better improved. Its a smaller space so Speakers seemed blown out sometimes and too loud. Earplugs made it 100% better. But even though it was small it wasnt overcrowded. And it was Nice and cold in there. Bathrooms were clean and a lot of stalls so us girls didnt have to wait to pee! Overall just wish they made the stage more elevated. Would love to see them host more intimate artists it would be perfect for a smaller rock band/up and coming artist. read more

If you followed heavy music in the late 90s and early 00s you assuredly saw Sevendust, and 28 years since I first saw "Black" played live in Toledo these guys are still touring relentlessly. At least my 11th show across 5 states and 3 countries. First rock show at Substance on Fremont and the venue sounds great. Sure Fremont Experience is a shitshow, but if you want smaller bands at smaller venues you gotta go out and support. read more

Came here for Lip Service R&B night and honestly I'm furious. The bartenders DON'T TELL YOU they're already adding a tip to every drink. Then the screen pops up asking for an "additional tip," making it look like that's the actual tip you're leaving--when in reality it's ON TOP of the tip they already sneak-charged you for! I only caught it the SECOND time I went up to the bar. That is shady, manipulative, and downright disrespectful. THIS is exactly why Vegas tourism keeps dropping--because places keep pulling shady money-grab scams like this. It ruined the night, it felt gross, and honestly it's embarrassing they think this is acceptable. So I actually really enjoyed this place. It was my first time here last night and I saw Tinlicker. Buying tickets was easy. The restrooms are clean and the space is actually pretty big. I was very surprised. The sound was pretty good and the best part of the night was that it was cold inside and the AC was working. I usually don't like going downtown because AC in a lot of the venues are scarce. I got one shot of cristiano Blanco tequila And also one vodka Red Bull and it came out to $37 Parking is scarce so I would find alternate ways to get here such as rideshare or taxi. read more

$7 for water and a bartender with a sh** attitude about it. I can see what this place is going for but with its weird stage layout and obnoxious LED walls it's going to struggle. Add to that this "Strip attitude" with $7 water (bottles of Smartwater only) and male bartenders with a "better than you" attitude, you fail. You're on Fremont, son! Read the room! I also don't get why the stage is in such an odd place in the venue with an angled wall and empty space behind the stage. Sound guy was in the middle of the standing room in front of the bar. I've been here twice and I'm going to have to say this place has its upside and downside. Upside: AC nice clean bathroom security is nice and friendly downside: The way the place is, the pillars on the dance floor can block the view of the dj/producer. The VIP area is kinda small but it's right by the dj set. when I was first there, the AC was not the best was leaking on the dance floor. I kinda wish they would of added more seats close to the bar again. it definitely helps people out when they get tired. read more

SUBSTANCE is going to shake the whole city. I went to all Grand Opening events and was not disappointed. They bring in all the best Dj's, have dancers, full bar, lots of dancing space and VIP options!!! Coming to the EDM nights are literally like being at a rave. Dress cute, bring friends & a fan! Also, pre-pay before showing up because they sell out fast! The Latin Night was my personal favorite because I am Latina. It hasn't been easy to find a good Latin-Night spot. So if you've been looking too, stop looking and come here! I always recommend all my friends who want top party to come here! The strip is overhyped with a bunch of tourists. Downtown is where all Vegas locals come for a great time. I'm happy to see Downtown come to life the last few years. It's only getting better!!! read more

Totally misled about this place. Advertised as spot for locals and tourists. Place is the same as every club in Vegas but they have air conditioned lines, this place has a heat wave to wait forever in. Terrible parking, Insane line, bunch of security rules, and unbearable hot. It's stuck over an awning in a dark corner area of the run down neonopolis building on Fremont. Trust me it's a super sweaty hot mess. Vegas Casino Club much better experience. I'm a local and I won't go there even though there is artists I like playing there. Update#1 OMFG My friend requested a refund for the $45 ticket cause she got overwhelmed by the heat in line and had to go home. The organizers banned her. She is a 28 year old business woman and has NEVER been banned from any place of business in her life. What a joke! read more

Although I did not have that great a time at the show, (my DJ took over 3 hours to show up so I left) the environment of Substance was very clean, and had a great vibe to it. The music was loud, but not too loud, and the lights and smoke along with the wall lights made for an awesome place to dance in. Everyone was chill, and there were so many bartenders! WOW what an amazing venue! This place pays homage to best parts of both OG Raver worlds; The underground warehouse party meets sexy european night club vibe, featuring a very impressive stretch of LED Walling that monopolizes an entire side of the club. This makes it a perfect place for Visually oriented shows for artists such as Flying Lotus or Ivy Lab, and would give justice to unique integrated audio/visual experiences. I would Highly suggest bringing ear plugs because they spared no expense when it comes to the sound system, I was sooo impressed I asked one of the owners how much noise they were pushing and he mentioned it's a Whopping 200,000 Watts! Personally my favorite part is it's next door to Raised by Wolves and this addition to Neonopolis has Downtown feeling like 2008-2016 Fremont East Bar scene. Literally the worst venue i have ever been to. They over sell tickets and is EXTREMELY packed. Everything feels very dated and dirty. The bar top was covereddddd with spills, trash, etc. Drinks are extremely overpriced as well. And to top it all off, the restrooms are so small that there was literal crowd crushing going on to go to the bathroom. Employees try to manage the bathroom situation but it is so poorly executed. We had to PAY to get into the VIP bathrooms that no one was in because we had no choice with the extreme line for the regular bathroom. Awful experiences, has happened more than once. Came in on Saturday with some friends and had a blast! The venue is huge and perfect for nightlife. All the staff is so friendly but Cara stood out to us!
