Jacob did such an amazing job cutting & coloring my hair! He did lowlights and toning for me, and understood exactly what I wanted without me even having to show a photo. He's also very easy to get along with and washes your hair really well!! read more

Micki is a true artistic talent. Several times I have come to her with a disaster to fix (that every other stylist made worse). With ease, she understood the issue and miraculously turned it into a gem. She truly understands hair texture, facial structure and the desired outcome that client is hoping to get. She is a true hair guru and an active listener and just a pleasure to talk to. read more

Well, going gray is never a fun thing. I accepted the fact that this is my future and I'm going to embrace it. I had a few photos I showed Vanessa Rivera and we discussed what I was "ready for" and what the end goal would be. The entire process was relaxing, I just closed my eyes and rested while Vanessa did her magic. The end result IS INCREDIBLE! I am so pleased, my hair is just beautiful. Highly recommend Sublime and Vanessa - you won't be disappointed!! read more

I got my hair done by Rebecca yesterday. She was so AMAZING!!! I just moved to the Bay Area and have been going to numerous salons to get my hair done and to no avail. I always left dissatisfied. Either the cut would be too straight and boring or the color would be too light or seem over done. I'm so GLAD I finally found a stylist that was able to give my dead straight boring hair a nice and sexy bounce! ‍ I will most definitely only get my hair done by Rebecca from now on! read more

Sublime Salon - Got my hair done by Rebecca! amazing cut and color!!! - Hair Salons Near Me - San Francisco, California

i have thick, long, unruly hair that makes it difficult to pop into just any salon for a cut. i recently moved and wasn't sure where to go, but was in desperate need of a haircut ahead of an important work event. Sublime Salon is close to my new house and (with a prayer) i signed up. Vanessa did an INCREDIBLE job. i explained what i was looking for and she delivered even better than i had envisioned - soft, silky, and polished hair that made me extra confident going into the event. (it went really well.) a few months later when i needed an update to my highlights for a filmed interview, even though i had never gotten color done by Vanessa, i immediately signed up for an appointment with her. knowing what she had done with my earlier haircut (and that her specialty isn't even haircuts but color) i trusted her to do a great job. she created the perfect highlights to frame and light up my hair and face. i'm so happy to have found Vanessa, and HIGHLY recommend her for both cuts and color. thank you Vanessa!!! read more

I decided to try out this Salon after seeing how good my sister's hair looked. I made an appointment with Rebecca for a cut/style and color. I had let my highlights grow out, and promised myself not to get a retouch cause it's so high maintenance (plus super expensive). I told Rebecca I wanted something natural that would blend my natural hair color with my grown out highlights. Since my hair is black, salons in the past told me I had to color my base first before they could work on highlights. Rebecca listened to what I wanted and worked her magic! She did a balayage with streaks so thin that it actually looks natural. The color she chose blended my natural hair and highlights, making it look more even. The cut is sexy! The layers frame my face well and give my flat some volume. Been getting a lot of compliments! No one else will be touching my hair after Rebecca! I've been getting my hair cut for years with Micky, she's brilliant with my dry unruly hair and her hair styling skills are excellent. Sublime is a modern fun salon with a great atmosphere and beautiful art. Andrew Jae does my color and he is the best! He is up to date and so amazing. I always leave feeling overwhelmed with my transformation from both of them. I wouldn't go anywhere else. If you want to be looked after by professionals at a very reasonable price, this is the place !!! Oh, I forgot to add, they do my daughters hair too and she loves it!!! read more

Transferred from the Strand to Sublime salon to follow my favorite hair colorist! So happy to have found Xiochtl, she really did wonders to bring my hair color back from the deads! My hair was really tired and ugly from a few years of cheap color and care and since xiochtl took over my hair is much healthier, shinier and looks natural but with fun touches. I have gotten a lot of compliments including that my hair looks fuller now. Very happy to have found you! read more

I love my hair! Katie Lang is a miracle worker. I re-layered my hair and totally changed my look with a different color. My hair is very dark. I have thick black ASIAN hair that is of medium length and Katie turned me into a complete babe. I told her that I wanted to spice things up and wanted a complete change. We discussed lightening up my base and adding some balayage. I already had some highlights in my hair that were fading out so I desperately needed the update. The ending result was gorgeous. My hair is now a nice shade of brown (that looks great with my skin tone, Asian girls head here now. I have some golden color in my skin tone so I'm always cautious to go lighter but this looks fantastic) I got so many compliments from everyone at school. I also have always had trouble with my bangs. Ever since I was teen I had the same type of bangs soKatie encouraged me to try a new style. We decided to do bangs and Katie took the time to explain how to style them as well. This whole process took about three hours. Katie was very diligent and detail oriented altogether. Great staff and a super cute salon. They serve tea here too! read more

Sublime Salon - From boring and black to a brown honey balayage. Katie Lang is amazing!!!!! - Hair Salons Near Me - San Francisco, California

A cute, unpretentious salon on the 2nd floor on Sacramento close to Laurel Heights. My hairstylist is none other than the fantastic Kerrin Lanahan, who I've been going to for over 12 years. Kerrin is a great stylist with an amazing ability to recognize what works best for me both in terms of hair coloration (transforming it from gray to more youthful color) as well as style. I recently changed jobs and the new haircut helped me make the cut. read more

I followed Kerrin from Flip salon and still couldn't be happier. I'm always happy with my color and cuts. I also think that Shannon and Claire rock!!! I was feeling a little down since my breakup. I needed a change. I was growing out my hair and decided to cut it shorter. I don't know how to change the date on the yelp review, but I came here in August but have been so disgusted by the experience that it's taken me over a month to write this. I wish there was an option to select no stars. I had the most horrific blonde highlighting experience of my life. The stylist was aggressive, didn't listen to me at all, told me that she knew what I wanted without letting me finish explaining, called my previous hair stylist a liar. It's my fault for not leaving when I felt completely uncomfortable. But it's 100% the stylist's fault for leaving me with burns on my scalp, and orange-tinted hair that is brittle and breaking at the root. read more

I can't say enough good things about PAM and CLAIRE. I first came here a couple of weeks ago with a whole LOT of red hair and asked Pam for full highlights. She took her time talking to me and finding out what my plans were. She spent TWO hours working away on my massive hair and the time just flew. She is a great person to talk to. I felt like I was with a good friend the whole time. Today I went back to see Claire for a cut. I trusted her completely with my hair. She did such an amazing job! She took away a lot of dead-weight hair and left me with a much lighter, more suitable cut. I even trusted her to give me bangs (This is huge)! I could just tell I was in good hands. I have never been happier with a hair cut in my life. The best part? Everyone who works here is unpretentious. You don't get even the slightest hint of attitude from these wonderful ladies. That matters. Now that I know I can get my hair cut without somehow being made to feel inadequate, I will never get my hair cut anywhere else again! read more

I read all the fantastic reviews of fellow Yelpers and decided I would give Sublime a try. I made an appointment with Rosa for color and Terri for a haircut on Saturday. Parking was pretty easy a block away on Pierce - no meters and no limit on the weekends. I headed over to Sublime, which seemed to have been converted from a residential house to a salon. When I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly receptionist and took a seat on their cushy bench by the window. The space was pretty bare with some artwork hanging on the walls and a few stations on either side of the room. It felt warm though, like you were in a friend's house. My first appointment was for color, so I met Rosa, who was such a cute girl with the whole 50's retro thing going on. I liked her right away. We chatted while she put my hair in foils and the 2 hour process seemed to go by in a snap. After Rosa finished giving me my new color, I got my hair cut from Terri. Terri was also a very cool chick and gave me a great cut that she thought worked best with my face. I asked her if I should do the side-swept bangs, but she gave me her honest opinion and told me that it would hide my face and not accentuate it. After she blew it dry, I was also able to see the new darker and richer color and I loved it. While I was there, I saw that a little boy who reminded me of Angelina Jolie's son Maddox was getting his hair cut. I'm not sure if they have a different price for children, but I thought, this kid must be a child model or something to be getting a $65 haircut! But that really told me that the stylists here are amazing and well worth the price. I noticed that all the stylists were really friendly and the vibe of the place was very cool and seemed drama-free. I'm definitely coming back for my next cut & color! read more

Claire totally understood the direction I wanted to go in for my hair when I went in for my consultation. I was eager to see what my hair would look like after our appointment! She added the perfect texture for the cut, which is something no one has ever been able to do considering it is a very unconventional style (my hair is asymmetrical) and it is not the easiest thing to layer or figure out how to make it look good yet uneven. Claire is a natural at her work and I have never been happier with my hair! From the onset, I felt comfortable. The music was great, and I found myself talking to Claire about different songs that were on. The conversation did not feel forced or awkward, as is usually the case when I get my hair did. Her ability to effortlessly converse and put me at ease allowed for a more relaxed experience and I had no worries with putting my life in her hands, stylistically speaking. read more

Micki was recommended to me by a friend who has been going to her for years. I have extremely difficult hair to deal with. When it gets long enough, it's like an afro. I know a red-headed afro sounds like it'd be rad, but it ain't. In any case, I usually keep my hair super short to avoid frizziness, but Micki has convinced me to let it grow out with her as my guide. So far she's been wonderful. My hair is the longest it's ever been and we're going to grow it out even more. Micki even gives free neck trims halfway to my next haircut so I don't look too scruffy at the bottom. Now, Sublime is not a full-service salon (no nails, massages, etc.) and I wish it were a little bit swankier. But, you go to a stylist to get a great haircut, and that's what I'm gettin'! read more

I moved to SF three years ago leaving behind a beloved hair stylist in Brooklyn. Unwillingly to try some place new, waiting for that magic synergy of unconnected people all recommending the same place, I grew my hair till I looked like a school teacher in Minnesota circa 1982. It was sad. All that changed when several friends recommended Jamie at Sublime. She gave me a great, short, fun and flirty new doo. She really listened to what I wanted and had amazing suggestions for the cut, style tips and products. I've been back again and Jamie reimagined my style and gave me an even better cut. She knocks my socks off! She's phenomenal. read more

Claire & Shannon rock!!!!!! CLAIRE: I came in with a disaster of a haircut with layers that looked like...honestly, I can't find the words to describe how awful (I had a *shelf* of a layer that stopped at my cheekbone, went in a straight line to my ear; from my ear past my shoulder is where the rest of my hair fell.). I really thought I'd have to lose most of my length, but Claire, genius that she is, transformed my hair disaster into a beautiful haircut with perfectly blended layers. Claire really took her time evaluating my hair texture, length, etc. and then took great care and time in cutting it. I was honestly speechless when I left the salon, because I didn't think it was possible to fix it without chopping it all off! SHANNON: My color was also 2 toned. Yes, my hair was an all over train wreck. My hair has also been through a lot in the past year (3 keratin straightening treatments, 2 partial highlights while leaving the underneath hair dark, and the color has been lifted twice only for the same hairdresser to place dark toner on it thereby darkening my hair again to square one.). I was nervous when Shannon said she wanted to do a full highlight to blend the color, therefore eliminating the 2 tone-ness of it. first, I thought my hair would be damaged beyond repair, and then I thought highlighting the dark underneath would turn it orange-y, which is supposedly why these other stylists lifted my color. Anyway, I ended up with the most beautiful highlights! they're perfectly golden, sun-kissed and blended if I say so myself! Also, my hair feels soft, not crinkly, dried, fried, and crispy. The haircut shows off the highlights, and the highlights show off the haircut. Worth every penny. Both are geniuses-seriously! read more

this is a long overdue review update. Here is my headline: Sublime was the perfect cure from my Mercer Street Salon hangover. Let's call it a one year hangover which is the duration of the time i went to Mercer for services. I previously saw another stylist (Tatyana) at Sublime who was also excellent, but has moved to another location to branch out on her own. This was about 3 years ago. Up until this point, I didn't hop around from salon to salon, but i was going thru a phase. Go figure I went Mercer to try balayage because i heard all these rumours about how the growout was more gentle. Not the case for me. My hair color is medium brown and with highlights i am a dirty/honey blond. I ended up in this terrible cycle where the colorist at Mercer and i just weren't connecting and she felt like she needed to use bleach to blend in my grays. She was also very aggressive with highlight placement, so I was having to go back in every 6 weeks. It looked fine for the first four weeks after an appointment, but the growout was bad. The result was i was beginning to get terrible breakage and this frizziness that I had never experienced before. I had "damaged hair" for the first time in my life. I have thick, slightly wavy Irish hair, so it's pretty resiliant, so this was a surprise to me. I thought about which stylists i connected with best in my past and I remembered Anastacia. She did my hair before my wedding many years ago. I booked an appointment with her for color correction and i was relaxed from the moment i sat in the chair. She has been able to transition me back to tint highlights which are less damaging and have a better grow out phase. I am now on an 8 week schedule and really i could even go longer because Anastacia is that good. I booked an appointment with Claire for a cut back in August and she is also excellent. She has been working with me to balance my need to trim out the damaged ends and grow out my hair. She is delightful and precise, just like Anastacia. The salon itself is clean and contemporary. It's lowkey also and i like that. I feel so lucky to have these two lovely ladies helping me with my hair. read more

Well, I am glad to see that I am not the only Claire fan! I have been coming to Claire for a year now, and couldn't be happier. I have very curly hair, and when I first came to her it was to take my shoulder length hair and turn it into a pixie. I was very nervous seeing as I had never been to Sublime and had never gotten a hair cut by Claire, but I left with a great haircut, and have never let anyone other than her cut my hair since. It is rare to find a great stylist that can cut curls. As others have mentioned, Claire is also a very sweet soul. Aside from great cuts, I just enjoy getting to spend a good 45 minutes with her. Conversation is easy, and after sending both my husband and father to her as well, she just kind of feels like part of our family. Also of great importance, pricing. I originally chose Sublime based on their great Yelp reviews, and the fact that they are the only affordable hair salon in Pacific Heights. I live and work in the area, but am not as affluent as some of my neighbors. I GREATLY appreciate that Sublime is fair in their pricing. I also appreciate, the relaxed and clean environment, and the fact the it isn't pretentious and catty like some of the overpriced salons on Fillmore. I highly recommend Claire, and the salon in general. read more

I just moved to San Francisco and after having the same hairdresser for years I was nervous about having my hair done, but Rebecca was amazing! Shvonne is amazeballs! She took me under her wing when I was looking for a new salon in SF. After having gone to her for a few months now I can truly say my search is OVER! She's wonderful and really listens to what I want. I'm super picky when it comes to color. When I say brown hair... I don't want simply brown. I want that dark, espresso, rich, warm color with a hint of chocolate in it.... Instead of looking at me like I was a little cray cray... she simple said "I got this", went into the back, whipped up some magical potion.. and 1 hour later my hair was the EXACT color I was dreaming about. I highly recommend her, her color services, and her amazing deep conditioning treatments. That scalp massage.... like whoa. read more

I came here recently as a recommendation from my roommate who's been coming here for years. My verdict? Sublime is AWESOME! I got a cut and color job from Tatyana Kosagina and she is just so cool! Admittedly, I was a wee bit nervous on my first visit here, as you never know exactly what to expect when trying out a new stylist for the very first time. Tatyana immediately put me at ease with her attentiveness and friendly demeanor. She listened to what I wanted, executed beautifully, and kept the conversation incredibly mellow and comfortable throughout the whole experience. Word to the wise: it's pricey. [But then again, so is every other place you go to get your hair cut and/or colored in San Francisco.] Just walking by one could easily miss it, as it's tucked away in the basement of a multi-tiered flat, but it's definitely worth the visit. read more

I had a haircut with Claire on a Saturday. She did a great job -- she understood exactly what I wanted, and was able to achieve the look with no complaints. What's more, I was tired and not in the mood for chatting, so we agreed to just hang out and let her do her thing. It was heaven! I will definitely be back every six-to-eight weeks. :-) read more

I spent $271 at this place which seems a bit pricey! My advice is to ask prices ahead of time whenever you call to make a hair appointment. The color and "lowlights" alone were $170, and the cut was $70. Perhaps this is standard but I've never spent so much on color. The color looks nice but it is not what I wanted. I specified that I wanted brown lowlights and wanted to keep my underlying lighter blonde/red color. Rosa was very nice and attentive and she asked if I wanted to put toner on the red. I agreed but stressed that I wanted to keep the same lighter color underneath the lowlights. End result is all brown. There are no noticeable lowlights at all. :( I would have asked her to redo but I didn't realize while my hair was still wet and by that time I had moved on to the cut. I mentioned this to Micky and she said it was the "lighting." Everyone I've asked the day-after agrees that it looks like I just dyed my hair all-brown. The cut is pretty good. I'd go back for a cut to Micky but I am definitely not too thrilled about the color (and price) by Rosa, so I'm going to have to give 2 stars because of that. I must stress that everyone was super nice though, and they have wine on thursdays. Maybe it was just not my day for color as it sounds like everyone else had great experiences with Rosa. read more

Claire is the only person on the planet I trust to take a pair of scissors to my hair. I have really thick, wavy hair and Claire took her time to give me the cut I wanted in a way that suits my hair. I walked in with neglected, split ended hair that went to the middle of my back, and walked out with an edgy yet refined layered, angled bob above my shoulders. I have had many haircutting experiences where I was wishing the stylist would engage a little less in conversation and give some more attention to my hair. Claire is super genuine and friendly, yet her focus is always on giving you a great cut. She is a perfectionist with an artist's eye. She also really wants to know what kind of cut YOU are looking for. I am pretty lazy about styling my hair, so I told Claire that I needed a style I didn't have to do much with to look cute. This is exactly what I got! Best hairstylist ever! read more

Shvonne Austin helps me with my haircuts and she is wonderful :) I have been circulating SF stylists for quite some time and finally my hair can rest. I love working with her as she clearly explains what needs to happen to keep my hair healthy and looking its best. I have now seen her twice... I am a bit beauty illiterate and the first time, I wanted to learn how to make my hair look good curly. She styled it and showed me how to do it step-by-step. I have since been getting better at it. Yesterday, I decided I wanted to cut my bangs into a front fringe. She was careful and patient and got it just right. Looking forward to seeing her soon for my bang trims. Sublime is a great spot and they take good care of you. They use Kerastase, which are great products. I have used the hair serums and it feels awesome :) read more

I followed Rosa here from her last salon because I really like how she lightens my hair (dark brown Asian hair) without turning it orangey, like I've experienced at other places. The end result is very natural, yet rich, and grows out really nicely. Rosa is also super friendly, welcoming, and explains everything you want to know about color. All over tint is $65. I also got a cut from Terri, which I was less happy with. It wasn't a bad cut, per se. It was just not what I wanted, even though I brought pictures and also explained in words. The salon, itself, is cute--spacious, well-lit, clean and simply decorated. It's in a great neighborhood for eating/shopping before or after your appointment. And parking (2-hour non-metered or metered) is not that hard to find. read more

Having an amazing hair stylist in LA, I was very sad when I first moved to SF as I'd have to start the stylist search all over again. Most ladies probably know that it takes at least 2-3 hair stylists to find that one who knows exactly how to treat your hair and give you the style that compliments not only your face/body but also your style. Luckily for me, my roommate introduced me to Wendy. Wendy is a miracle worker and thanks to her beautiful work, I never had to embark on that awful journey of finding the stylist that suits me. Wendy not only takes her time in terms of cutting and styling my hair, but she is also very patient, personable, and remembers exactly what I want! I highly recommend Wendy to anyone who is seeking an amazing stylist! read more

I will caveat this whole review by saying I think these women (Jill and Lori) are so great and have been a fan of their services for so long I consider them friends, but that being said - prior to becoming hooked on Jill Quinn for haircuts and Lori Dylan for color, I was a big salon slut, hitting trendy overpriced places and never really satisfied. As of finding these rocking women 6 years ago I literally would NEVER trust my cut or color to anyone else. Ever. Lori Dylan is such a cool woman and she has gone with me from blond to red, red to auburn and back to strawberry, an ill-fated fling with my so-called "real" hair color (horrid) and back to our current warm red-blond hybrid and there has been not one day I have walked out of there (and we are talking every bloody 6 weeks for almost 6 years) that I have not been totally happy with her services. I have sent a ton of people to her and she has always treated everyone beautifully and given them great color. Jill Quinn has turned my somewhat thin, weird hair into a mane of silky perfectly layered stuff. I honestly have no idea how she pulls this off. It seems to have something to do with a magical potion of skill, hair product and flat iron - but all I know is I have again never, EVER, gotten a bad haircut with her, or even a mediocre haircut from Jill. I would not let anyone else touch my head under any circumstances. She is also just a complete sweety - and as a woman business owner, I totally applaud her for taking the plunge of owning a salon with Micki her partner. They are also super picky about who they staff the place with and their reception folks are always amazing. Dean was just a cult hero in my mind and their new regular reception Timaree is also just a lovely welcoming presence. Seriously, check out Sublime - a relaxed but chic atmosphere, incredibly warm and friendly stylists. The only complaint I have ever heard is that it is sometimes a little tough to get in right away -- but you know, good people are in demand. They are not super cheap, but as in most services you get what you pay for and they are less than or comparable too other salons in their high end category. Thursday night wine night is really fun and mellow. If you are tired of hunting for consistently great place - try them out. You won't regret it. read more

loves it. jill is amazing with hair (i've ALWAYS gotten exactly what i wanted, even when i didn't know how to express it in words) and hilarious. (if you're from minnesota/iowa and like to make fun of it as much as i do, you'll both be giggling throughout.) plus, the music is always great. i love hearing brazilian girls while getting a head massage, don't you? i've been going here since she opened (and before, when she worked out of posh, nearby) and have never been disappointed. i've also had my hair cut by terry (sp?), and she is also quite good. both are very chill conversationalists, so it's not some faux, slightly tense because you're moving your jaw and such (maybe a boy hair thing), annoying obligation like it can be with some stylists. UPDATE: HOURS, PRICES, BIO, ETC. POSTED ON THEIR WEBSITE, WHICH I ALWAYS APPRECIATE. I WROTE MY REVIEW A LONG TIME AGO AND THEY'RE STILL AWESOME. I recommend Jill all the time, even though I know the owners of Cowboys and Angels and have friends at Di Pietro, as well. Go see her and you'll be happy. Tell her I sent you. :) read more

Terri has skills. Her sensibilities are trust-worthy. $65 may be a touch spendy for a men's haircut but note that she does touch-ups in the interim to lengthen the time between cuts. read more

It's a documented Yelp fact that the thing that people are LEAST likely to review is their salon or hairdresser. So, with much trepidation and with fear that I'll never be able to get onto her calendar again: I'm writing this review for Jamie. I've been seeing Jamie for years -- first at Grasshopper, now at Sublime. She is great, insightful and thoughtful -- in addition to a great haircut, I love the 1 or 2 hrs I spend talking with her, as opposed to the awkward silence you sometimes encounter. Although the location is a bit of a trek for me, its always worth it. Bonus points that they've started offering wine! read more
