I recently started coming to Honeycomb to see my stylist Nikko. The salon is tucked away behind a lovely patio in Noe Valley and has a really quaint ambiance about it. The light was lovely and it was super relaxing being in the space. Everyone is super friendly and inviting. I've been seeing Nikko since the summer and am so pleased with his level of professionalism. He is extremely detailed and takes the time to really understand his clients and their needs. Cuts are done with a lot of precision and he'll make sure you don't walk out with any uneven bits. This is something I greatly appreciate! And colour... let's just say Nikko and I have been on a colour journey together! I originally came to him after trying out a new colourist. My hair had been bleached and I was desperate to get back to my brunette self. Nikko worked tirelessly towards getting my hair back to my desired colour/tone without damaging it. This was for a while an excellent salon for haircuts; coloring & the like. I have been here three times over the last year or so and will never set foot in here again. They charged me over two hundred dollars as a "no show" although they do not routinely provide a reminder email or text. I had requested another appointment yesterday for my birthday but changed my mind verbally & cancelled. They sent me a text 20 minutes after my "scheduled" appointment asking where I was & I immediately said I had cancelled months before. This floored me and I will never set foot in here again. This is terrible customer service & my next step will be to report this incident to the BBB. I was contacted by a person from the salon today 9/26 & was informed that they do have both text @ email reminders sent & yet there is no history of a single contact within the past month to show this actually happened contrary to what they said. Without further evidence by them I already contacted the BBB to get this sorted & again will never set foot in this establishment again unless required by law which is a very remote possibility @ best. read more

I would say don't go there but if my experience is typical they won't let you book an appointment anyway. I tried multiple ways through multiple channels to book a consultation with a stylist but their website doesn't support that appointment type and their phone number doesn't accept messages. So I just booked an appointment and assumed they had a system for setting up consultations before the appointment. Instead I just got a text that my appointment was canceled since I didn't have a consultation first. Even after multiple texts with the salon manager they simply would not let me book an appointment or a consultation with my desired stylist even though she does work there. Simply the worst customer service experience imaginable. Follow up: just to note that the salon manager's response is false. My appointment was cancelled before any communication took place. I was never offered an opportunity to schedule an appointment with my desired stylist--the only person at the salon who works with my hair type. (Curly girls know this is all too familiar!) I've had my hair done by Gino twice and he is go-to for highlights, gloss/toner. I trust his knowledge and skills and have loved how my hair turned out both time. I like a bit of change in my hair but want to keep it low maintenance and Gino knows exactly what to do! read more

I did a CEZANNE Keratin Smoothing Treatment with James. The result is not good at all. I understand that this treatment is not meant to straighten hair, but it should have helped reduce frizz, and it did nothing for my hair. I was charged $500 plus tip, and there was no noticeable improvement. I'm not sure whether this was due to the product itself or the application, but the service felt rushed. My hair was not fully flat-ironed; it was blow-dried and flat-ironed unevenly, and it seemed like he wanted to finish as quickly as possible. For reference, my hair is medium length but fairly thick. Regarding the experience, from the moment I entered, James was not that friendly. I arrived 15 minutes early and didn't feel like welcomed. Unfortunately my experience was far from great for the cost. I got a toner and a trim which came out to $320 before tip which alone is a bit absurd. The toner was $175 which is understandable and turned out good, but the remaining was $145 for a TRIM which you can see large portions of my hair was missed and for that price point is not acceptable. Made a same day appointment to have a bad haircut fixed. Wesley was the stylist and he has a welcoming, and positive energy. He also is pretty talented with his scissors. He was able to make the best out of a bad haircut. I'm very pleased with the end result and will be returning for future service. I came in for a color appointment but earlier they had called to let me know the original stylist had to go home early and a jr. stylist would be taking over. I was going for a red copper and maddie had asked if I had dyed my hair recently which I responded to no ( I am Mexican and have dark black hair naturally) then she proceeded to ask if my hair was all virgin hair and I said yes. She came back with the owner explaining the color I want might not come out since I have dark hair but asked the same exact question Maddie did which was if I had died my hair recently and I responded no again because the last time I had dyed hair was 4 years ago when I was blonde. I have had multiple haircuts throughout the years. She said that I most likely needed my ends cut because "the color from my previous dye is still in there" I said really ? I felt super gaslit like they wanted me to get a trim so bad. The color didn't lift after 20 minutes so they decided for me to come in another day because they would have to lighten my whole head and said there would be no time today. Since I was already sitting in the chair I asked for a blowout instead and she took almost 3 hours ! It was extremely frizzy and she had such a heavy hand, kept hitting my face and neck during the service lighty but I still have never had that happen during a service before. Maddie was staring at my bag and then said "the iron was right next to your bag and I think I burned it." I didn't see any burn mark because I also didn't have my glasses on and said I don't see anything and she just moved on. I noticed when I got home that she burned the logo of my MCM bag. The owner came back to look at my hair and told her that clearly my ends are not going to look polished, again seeming passive I decided not to get a haircut. At the end of my service she said she was giving me 50% off and it came out to be $60. Since she didn't put any oil or use any other hot tool then the dryer and curler my hair was a poofball within 1 hour. After attempting to color my own hair during the pandemic I vowed to step away from the bleach, lol, but after a few bad experiences during my college days at salons elsewhere I was a little scared to trust a new stylist. Enter Honeycomb and Gino! I've been to this salon a few times now and it gets better every time. Front the front door to the shampoo sink everyone here is amazing! The vibes are great and the energy is high! Gino has worked his magic on me a couple of times and I constantly get compliments on it. Long overdue review for my favorite guy Raj! He has been my hair savior since he joined 4 years ago! I recently came in looking for a new look after being in the darkness of Covid for far too long and after safely feeling comfortable to go to a salon after having my daughter just about 9 weeks ago. The salon has taken proactive measures to abide by the SF health mandates and requirements to keep not only the clientele safe but also the artists themselves. I felt very safe and comfortable since they left their doors wide open to allow circulate air in. As far as space, the artists are kept in good distance from their work stations to remain social distance. I came in asking for a Ombré and after looking at the photos I shared with him, he said it's a Balayage. I want something to easily maintain and didn't require me to come in frequent for touch ups. I love that he listens to what I am looking for and make honest opinions on what is best for me. He clearly has a passion to be creative and is very meticulously about his techniques when it comes to hair. Super expensive blowout with a junior employee. 2. $40 conditioner treatment for 15 min, I got a 4 min conditioner "treatment" 3. Hide extra charges, even tho I called to confirm them. Supposedly I got a discount I end up paying $120, this is the most expensive blowout of my life, I should have seen the red flags when was the only place with that much openings on a Saturday, please don't go. About two years ago, I met a guy in SFO who had long hair the same color and texture as mine - but with a cut that gave him a real rockstar look. He referred me to Michael G at Honeycomb, and after reading the Yelp reviews and thinking about it for almost a year, I finally went and got my first haircut that was not just a straight trim of the ends. Michael is super friendly and efficient -- and he did a great job with my long hair, not taking too much off and giving a bit of a blunt cut at an angle to the front that has allowed my hair to wave and curl on its own like I never knew it could do! The salon itself is in a beautiful old building that was remodeled inside with skylights and plenty of natural light - and there are frequently cute dogs there (Hi Madigan! Hi Charlie!). I've come to Honeycomb Salon occasionally, but not faithfully, over the last decade of living in SF. I've always gotten pretty good haircuts here, but last week Rebekah gave me the best haircut of my life. It's been a full week now and every day I am still blown away by how good it is. It air dries perfectly and is short but still can be put in a ponytail without any little pieces coming out to annoy me when I exercise. Hands down the best salon in San Francisco! Best of all, they're eco friendly and female owned! I looked in the mirror after leaving my last appointment and realized my hair looks better than it ever has before. The color is GORGEOUS and the cut is perfect. Gillian has now been doing my hair for several months and I honestly cannot say enough good things about her. She actually listens to me when I tell her what I'd like, and my hair turns out better than I imagined it could. I'm trying to grow my hair out and Gillian knows how to cut it just enough so that it looks great but doesn't take too much off. This my friends is such an important trait in a stylist! The Honeycomb space is everything I'd hope for. The location is in Noe Valley (a super great area to explore). It's a beautiful and relaxing space with art, plants and lots of natural light. I just walked out of Honeycomb and am so pleased to report my hair looks great. Michael did a fantastic job on my burnt out ends, and only took off as much as was necessary. My bangs look great, not too long, not too short, and they blend nicely into the rest of my hair. I mostly enjoyed that if I wanted to talk we talked, and if I was happy to sit there quietly I could do that too. The salon itself is really nice, minimalistic with white, gold and black decor. If you've never been it's a little bit out of the way in the sense that it's tucked back behind the main drag of 24th street, but it's well worth a visit. You can book appointments online which is a huge bonus for me. Price was a little more than I expected for a cut/wash/style but honestly my hair looks great so I don't really care. I'm so blessed I found her, I came in for a haircut and highlights and my hair turned out even better then the original photo I came in showing her. UPDATED: *One year later from my first review* While I was very frustrated and disappointed with my first experience, you will notice in the comments below that Gillian, the owner, replied to my original review promptly and offered to fix it (she was not my stylists the first time). Gillian asked me to come back, fixed the results and also discounted my original bill for the inconvenience. I ended up liking the results and decided to continue seeing her for services. I really enjoy the convenient location, family feel with the staff (they'll even text with you to set up appointments!) and array of products. I also appreciate that they don't push new products on you (something other salons sometimes do and it makes it awkward). Its not a super haute/posh salon, but that's also not the Noe Valley vibe so if you're looking for that kinda scene, I'd recommend checking out other neighborhoods (I.e. FiDi). They do offer you sparkling wine upon arrival though, so that works for me! 13 months later and I have since gone to Gillian on a regular basis for hair cuts and color. She knows I like to keep my hair longer so offers "dry cuts" which are cheaper, faster and less dramatic than regular wet haircuts. As the owner, she is a bit more expensive than other stylists I've seen in SF, so that's one consideration but she's also crafty in finding ways to extend color (like toner in between highlights) to keep costs down. Gillian is talented in figuring out what it is you're looking for (to be fair, I can be quite picky and sometimes unclear in what I'm looking to achieve), and my friends compliment my coloring often. I saw Chris Ohnesorge (you can book with him on StyleSeat) a few years ago to get a haircut while I was on a business trip. It remains one of the best haircuts of my life. He worked serious hair magic, using every cutting implement at his station to turn my overgrown hair into a masterpiece. It was soft and light but with volume. Short but feminine. Professional but edgy. The whole haircut and style was quick too. If I remember correctly, I was in and out in 40 minutes or less. None of those never-ending tweaks that stretch a cut on and on, wasting 60-90 minutes of your precious time. He got it exactly right on the very first try. And you know when you tell a stylist that you want something low maintenance, that you can style in 5 minutes? But it takes them 30+ minutes to style it? That's never a good sign. Chris did a cut that he (and I) could actually style in 5 minutes. It was a miracle. This man really, really gets hair. read more

Unfortunately, my recent appointment at Honeycomb wasn't as fabulous as my first. I needed a last minute appointment due to travel plans and was unable to see Gilbert again, but instead was booked with Erin. After reading the reviews about her here, I figured I'd give it a shot. First off, let me say that my cut is amazing. It's well worth the cost. However, my color is exactly what I DIDN'T want. When booking the appointment I told the receptionist that I wanted a "variation of an ombre" meaning dark roots into lighter tips. I told Erin the same when I first sat in her chair. I started to question what the results were going to look like when I noticed a large amount of foils going in. I didn't say anything because, well, she's the professional. Needless to say I left the salon with a full head of highlights (which while beautiful, was not what I asked for, and nothing close to an ombre). While visiting a friend in LA over the weekend I went with her to her local salon to see her get the same exact treatment I asked for. The color/foiling looked like night and day compared to what I received. Hers came out immaculate. Perhaps I should have asked the receptionist if she knew how to do what I was asking when I booked the appointment. That's probably my fault, but after the LARGE amount of money I paid for a highlight job that is so not me or what I asked for, I probably won't be returning to Honeycomb. read more

I'm not a 'salon' guy - until relatively recently, i'd always gotten $12 haircuts @ an old fashioned barbershop, or taken #2 clippers to the dome for a summertime buzz, and i always came away feeling bummed cuz my lettuce looked - expectedly - less than stellar. but Erin Dunkly has rescued me from the land of bad haircuts. it's not overstating to say she's an artist - really intuitive and talented with great style. whatever stress i felt when i used to sit down in a chair while someone took scissors to my dome has vanished. i have total faith in her and it's so easy - i pretty much just show up and tell her to 'do what you do', and she takes care of the rest. always come out of there feeling and looking better than when i came in. it's a bonus that she's a really nice person, too. highly recommended. read more

My friend Angela got her hair and makeup done here on New Year's Eve (Erin Dunkley was her stylist). So no, I wasn't getting styled myself (I was the photographer) but I have to say, Erin did an amazing job. I posted some pics of my friend's hair and makeup so you can see what I'm talking about. Me and Angela's other friends were commenting on how it didn't look too overdone, as some "wedding makeup" tends to look. It just looked perfect, not too heavy, but glamorous and classic. We were there at 3:00 pm and her lovely hair and makeup lasted all the way till midnight (time of the ceremony). Great job, Erin. There was another guy (whom I'm assuming is the owner) who was super nice, kept coming upstairs to check on us, see if we needed anything, asked if we needed any help with working the stereo before he went out. The upstairs area was a great little hangout spot for friends of the bride, it was cozy, warm, comfortable place to hang out, well lit, there were some extra chairs to sit and drink champagne. We were there for hours and it was lots of fun. I'd recommend this place to any bride to be - and her bridal posse too. Oh yeah - and this place isn't just for women - there were some men getting their hair cut downstairs earlier in the afternoon. read more

I tried this place because it is close to my house. The first hair cut Gilbert gave me I was not happy with because he left the layers on the top of my head to heavy so my hair didn't fall right. I called him and he was okay with having me come back in so he could fix it. It still wasn't the best cut but I decided to try him again (because of these yelp reviews) right before I was to go on vacation. They day of my haircut I got a call 10 minutes before my appointment saying Gilbert was not coming in and he had to cancel. I was so pissed off because I was scheduled to leave the next day to Mexico. I ran downtown to Cinta salon and they were able to squeeze me in. Well I got such a great haircut from Cinta that I am now a regular there. Gilbert never called to apologize which really pissed me off since I had specifically told the person who called to tell me he wasn't coming in that I was pissed off because I was leaving the next day. read more
