Slightly sweet by themselves. With the fried chicken cutlet and the maple syrup and slightly mustardy hollandaise, jt works really well. Huge pieces of bacon and the serving size is really generous. I split it with my son. I also split a corned beef hash which was also done really well. The meat is just perfect - tender yet crispy. The mix with shreddded potatoes also goes well They also have other great stuff like stuffed French toast. The bathrooms are also very nice. On our way to Tappen with empty stomachs we stopped at their Vernon location for a sandwich. Both craving BLT's the lovely K, thanks to Yelp saw that they had that offering. We pulled in, parked, and entered the store. It's always a treat to go in as the store is well stocked, well lit and always clean. The young man that helped us at the counter was courteous and informed us of the soups that were available that day. Borscht I think might be a staple here, and the other offering was Mulligatawny, which we have made at home. Our soup and sandwiches ordered with the choice of back, or side bacon, we went to the bistro area to await our lunch. Prior to stepping away however our bacon was cut fresh from the side. Who does that? Needless to say our sandwiches and soup were delicious, and from the looks of it we weren't the only ones that have discovered this gem. Another redo while in Kelowna or Vernon? You betcha, and we can't wait!

OVERALL: 7.9/10 (Yelp Converted Score: 4/5). My partner and I were passing through, and wanted to…read morestop for coffee. It was a decent experience - they did forget that I ordered a breakfast sandwich until I politely reminded them about 15 minutes after they gave us our last item (steamed oat espresso latte). Verdict: I'd come back if I lived in the area, or was passing through again, but it's not a place I'd outright go out of my way to get to. 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 8.5/10. It has a decent selection for being such a small hole-in-the-wall (relatively speaking). 2) FRESHNESS: 8/10. They have the materials to make things fresh, but a lot of the baked goods are technically "pre-baked" (they may have been made on the same day, but they're not "made to order". 3) VALUE FOR MONEY: 7.5/10. Overall not bad, kind of expensive (sandwiches were $10 and $12; lemonade was $4 for a small glass with tons of ice, iced coffee and latte were $6 each, almond croissant was around $5?), but not terrible for a small(ish) town like Vernon (remember, all prices in $CAD for a Canadian business!). 4) SERVICE: 7/10. There were two people working here the entire time I was there; one was constantly making drinks, the other was alternating between helping customers order and making the food. It was a busy morning, but the person who took my order forgot about the breakfast sandwich that I'd ordered until I politely reminded them (after it was already cold, sad days). 5) CONSISTENCY / FIRST IMPRESSION: 8.5/10. I'd definitely come back - and prefer it over the local Starbucks / Timmie's - because local businesses are fantastic if done right (and this place seems to have struck that balance). Parking in front, but not much! I'm happy to see a local coffee shop thriving - tons of folks came in and the place was always having someone order the full time I was there. NOTE: This place is also the same as "juice wall" - there's a "wall" of shelving near the door that's a ton of wine options - you have to get a coffee shop item to order stuff from there, but it seemed like a reasonable price when I was perusing (but not purchasing) the wine. My only regret is not taking a picture of the wall! The seating wasn't bad - there's maybe 5 tables of 2-3 inside, and a patio that lines the outside of the place - so it's not bad by any means.

The steak was very tough and had to be sent back; however, the replacement steak was excellent and cooked properly. The restaurant itself really needs renovations. It feels very old and dark, and the wood paneling makes it look dated. The booth seating was especially uncomfortable -- you can actually feel the wood underneath the seat cushions. Service was slow, which was surprising given how quiet it was. It made us wonder where the staff were. The prices were average, but with how expensive dining out is these days, that's not saying much. Overall, we won't be returning.
