Years ago I heard about this place from a friend. I went once was great, went back a few times until 2 years ago when I stopped due to a less then stellar experience. At that time Sally dyed my hair and had the receptionist wash it. She washed me and then I sat back down waiting, the dye was not all out and I had to reiterate this as Sally started blow drying my hair. Not a big deal but they were super busy and I felt really rushed, it wasn't professional or relaxing experience. Two year later I went back last week. I booked 2 months in advance to finally see Stacy who I could previously could never get an appointment with. Despite the color and cut not necessarily looking like the photos I brought I was happy with her service. When she was done she saw a dark spot by my temple and fixed it. In the light there which in my opinion is poor for a salon it looked fixed. I got home and saw that spot wasn't totally fixed but I was going to let it go. Then the following day I saw another spot where the low lights I had put in bled and made a dark stripe on the adjacent very light hair. It does happen, no one is perfect and I get that. I emailed the salon and they were quick to respond and say come back in, no problem. I went back last night to have it fixed by Sally. She was nice to begin with and went to fix it, put some bleach on those spots, redid part of the color via highlights there. After she washed the first section out she saw it was still not rectified and did it again. After the second time she said I was done. I looked and saw still a little of the dark spot by my temple. I was told "let it grow out you have to expect that to happen with low lights." That is 100% not true. I have had this done many other places without issue and just tried this place because I was short on cash for a better salon. However, you get what you pay for. I am OK with my hair right now but I can't put the right side up as the brown spot is still visible. To let it grow out and expect that was not an appropriate response. From day one I felt everyone there was very cliquish and not friendly but I thought it was me. After this last time I will never be going back as their customer service sucks. I realize that this operation is run out of a studio apartment in a residential building.. perhaps illegal? I don't know. I had no problem sitting in a chair in front of what is supposed to be a kitchen sink on a little old wobbly stool. However, I did take issue with the cleanliness. Everything is very old and dusty. I would not say I feel a level of good hygiene is maintained. Perhaps this was an isolated incident but this was my 3 or 4th time there and I remember why I stopped going 2 years ago in the first place. If I pay decent money for my hair I do expected professionalism, cleanliness and friendliness. If you do not care about those things you'll fit right now. I did see all the photos on here and that is why made me think for so long I must be wrong. I did post two pictures firstly the dark stripe I found by Stacy that Sally fixed and then a picture of how Sally fixed my hair. After years of going to the same stylist whom I adored, I had to find a new one because my stylist stopped working. Let me tell you, I did a tremendous amount of research to find a new stylist. I read loads of Yelp reviews and feature articles about stylists in magazines like Time Out NYC and New York mag. My criteria for choosing a stylist was (1) he or she must be located in the East Village (where I live), (2) he or she must be affordable (no frickin' $100 haircuts), and (3) he or she must be recognized as a quality stylist (i.e., has good reviews to his or her name). My search resulted in the best find: Stacy Pitt. I am so pleased with the haircuts that I get from Stacy. She always gives me her full attention. Some stylists will rush through a haircut to keep up with appointments. Not Stacy. She does the job right and makes me feel like I'm an important client. Even though she has many clients, she remembers me and things I told her on my last visit. I have thin, straight hair, which is a challenge for many stylists because every cut shows. Stacy handles my tricky, thin hair aptly. I have come to trust her with the scissor completely. In fact, when I see her, I tell her to cut my hair however she thinks is best. I know not all people are comfortable giving their stylists free range, but with a talented stylist like Stacy, there is no need to worry. I always walk away from Stacy's chair feeling that my hair looks great. She makes sure that I'm happy with my cut before I leave. I get a "dry haircut," which is a no-wash, no blow dry cut for $50. Other kinds of haircuts are more expensive. Be sure that you review the Styles on B website carefully to understand what category and cost of haircut that your hair will likely require. In any case, Stacy's pricing is unbeatable. Stacy's reviews here on Yelp comment a lot on wedding hair. She actually does it all--women's, men's, wedding, and event styling. The one exception is children's hair. She'll only cut hair of children of clients with whom she has a relationship. All appointments are made through the salon's website or by email (once you are an established client). There is no phoning Stacy or the salon, which may annoy some people. I don't have a problem with it. Email is cool by me. I have never had an issue getting an appointment, but I am very flexible. I will take an appointment whenever there is an opening. I think Stacy appreciates clients who are laid back and not controlling. If you sit in her chair and bark demands, you are not going to get a second appointment. Stacy gets bonus points for doing FREE bang trims between appointments. I love this because my bangs grow freakishly faster than the rest of my hair. Stacy has several assistants who schedule appointments and usher clients in and out of the salon. It will benefit you to make an impression on them because they're the ones who get you in Stacy's chair. I'd like to correct one thing that older reviews on Yelp state. I'm fortunate enough to have discovered the best and most inexpensive hairdresser in the city. Mostly everywhere you go in Manhattan will charge at least $175-$300+ for a cut and color. No joke. It's friggin ridiculous. I refuse to pay that much for a haircut, and somehow came across Styles on B. The first time I went there I discovered that it's a one woman operation out of her home. Stacy has her apartment set up as a professional salon, but dont let this fool you. She is very talented and her prices stay low since she works for herself. I love how she cuts my hair, and I'm convinced I'll be a client for life - or for as long as I live in New York at least. She's really busy and does a ton of weddings so sometimes it's hard to get an appointment with her, but yesterday I got the cut and color I'd been waiting for. Finally the remnants of my $7 Clairol bathroom sink dye job are erased, and for a mere $85, my cut and color looks like a $175-$300+ rip off. read more

The ladies of Styles on B really know their stuff! After many harrowing adventures in NY hair hell, I was thrilled to find this place! I needed a keratin straightening, and normally, the biggest problem with that is the amount of product my hair needs (a lot) for it to "take." Stacy was really quick to answer my inquiry via email and got me booked in for a late appt, which is great because of my work schedule, and Sally was my stylist. When I got there, they were incredibly accommodating and friendly. So nice to not be surrounded by snooty people looking down their noses at me! Sally was so sweet, answering all my questions and making me feel right at home. She used the correct amount of product for the straightening. (Most salons use far too little and then yell at you if you question them) She also gave me a wonderful trim afterwards and the pricing was fair and about $150 less than what I would have paid at my previous salon! I came here after finding them on Weddingwire.com in search of a wedding day stylist. I came to my trial armed with an array of photos and in an hour I saw a bunch of variations. I was able to leave knowing exactly what I had in mind. Later on I was sent a link with photos of my hair styles so I could let it simmer and was told that whatever I wanted was very flexible. Well... not much later I nervously emailed Laureen (my stylist) to say "can I change the whole look - I'm not sure it's right for the day" to which she said "Absolutely!" Oh thank god! Stacy is by the best hair stylist I have had, She does such an amazing job and knows how to get what style you like, she can really read a person's personality and genuinely listens to what you are asking for, (or for me, who is usually indecisive, she helps me decide and it turns out great!) .. I don't even want to write a good review because Stacy is so great (and so busy!) I want to keep her to myself. I've been seeing Stacy for years and years. I have curly hair and am very particular about who cuts it because so many stylists don't seem to understand how curly hair grows out. Stacy usually does a dry cut and then washes and straightens my hair to check that it can work both ways. She cuts it to look naturally bouncy and gorgeous without being a giant crazy ball. Her layering is excellent. I only get my hair cut every three months or so because the cuts last. I send all my friends to her too. I had several hiccups in wedding planning leading up to my October wedding but Styles on B was never a cause of stress. I love that they offer packages and I thought the prices were reasonable for NY. I was worried their style may not jive well for my mom and the mother of the groom who both have very short hair so I only bought a package for myself and bridal party. I ended up doing 2 trials with Laureen, partly due to the fact that I did my trial very early on and then after buying my hair piece and getting closer to the date, I felt like I needed to see everything all together. I thought she was very easy to work with and I liked so many different styles she tried. I also liked that they send you photos of all the styles at different angles right away. I emailed back and forth A LOT while securing my contract and details and thought Aubrey was really fantastic answering questions and concerns in a timely manner. I LOVE Stacy!! She cuts and styles my hair in NYC and is amazing, so when I decided to have my wedding in NC, I knew I needed to get her to come down! Luckily, she was game! Unreal find for wedding hair! I had been all over the city looking for the right stylist, and when I asked my planner Alison Semmler for a suggestion she immediately thought of Styles on B and it was the best decision! It was a last minute booking (two weeks before the wedding) so I was so lucky and grateful they found a way to fit me in not only for a trial but for the actual wedding day, where I wanted a whole gaggle of women to get their hair done in my hotel suite. The salon was kind and accommodating and easy to work with for the planning from start to finish. I had the pleasure of having Laureen do my hair -- she is the BEST! I came into the salon for my consultation and she sat me down and offered me some whisky since I looked stressed. Heaven. She further de-stressed me by clearly understanding what I wanted and why it had been hard to achieve in prior trials (a messy pony is apparently a very hard look to get right!?) Then she worked her magic and I was so happy and sold. She did two things I appreciated in that trial that no other stylist had done (aside from offering me the whisky which was amazing) -- she actually put in hair extensions in to volumize the pony, instead of simply saying that I could later go out and buy extensions if I wanted and would need to imagine what it would look like on the day of; and she took photos with the salon's digital camera (not a phone) for herself to remember what we had done. This extra level of thought and care meant so much. Not to mention that Laureen is just the coolest, I felt comfortable and confident in her skills and enjoyed every moment with her. As you learn attending many weddings, some vendors are calm, cool, and collected, and others add to what is already a stressful time. Alyssa (hair stylist) and Aubrey (who handles all communication from Styles on B ahead of the actual wedding day) are both wonderful. Aubrey is a great communicator, clear about pricing, availability, and everything you need to know to make sure you and your bridal party are prepared to have your hair done the morning of the wedding. Alyssa is awesome. She styles your hair beautifully and is extremely efficient. She structures the day differently than some other stylists. She sets everyone's hair first, so curls have time to take hold, and then finishes everyone's hair after. She's the first hair stylist I've seen who's been able to get fine hair to hold its style most of the night. She's very easy going and efficient, easily able to work around the makeup artists' more rigid schedule. Somehow, despite having a relatively short window to do everyone's hair, she always finishes early, able to do touch ups on everyone before heading out. She made everything feel easy and seamless throughout the whole time getting ready. I was glad to have a reference point ahead of my wedding to be so confident in Alyssa's experience and hope I can do the same for anyone reading this here. It was as if my hair didn't know what it had been missing until it met Sally Perez! At my first appointment with Sally, almost four years ago, she transformed my long semi-shapeless locks into a sleek angled-bob that styles as easily every morning as it did in the salon. Since then, I have been consistently impressed by the cleanness of her cuts, and her chic eye for style. Sally is always attentive to her clients' wishes, but is also willing to suggest ideas and visions of her own when requested. In my experience, it can be hard to find a stylist that strikes this perfect balance between pushy and apathetic. So of course, when I got married last summer, it was Sally that I wanted styling my hair and my bridesmaids'. She did a gorgeous job- classic, natural, photo-ready. In the almost 4 years that I have been going to Sally, I have never been disappointed. Neither have my mom, sister and two classmates, who all converted to Sally after admiring my style. At our wedding this September, Laureen did the hair for myself, bridesmaids, and my mother. Everyone got very different hairstyles, and they all looked great and lasted throughout the night. This was the worst experience I had while planning my wedding. I brought images and ideas of te type of hairstyle I wanted for my wedding day. Nothing complicated - mostly down, slightly curled and pulled off my face. Stacy proceeded to show me images of other trials so I could pick one that I wanted to emulate. All of the images essentially looked the same. When i couldn't find one but showed her the photos I had brought she went ahead and did the same style used on the brides in her other images. When I told her i wasn't what I was after, she took a curling iron to it and left me with ringlets. I was nearly in tears. I looked like I was going to a prom in 1982. The worst part was that while I had scheudled my trial with her weeks before (and was paying for it), she had booked another client earlier such that my appointment got cut short and I wasn't given my entire time. read more

Stacy is just about the only person I trust to color my hair. I have been going to see her religiously for the past 7 years(a looong time) and I love how her business has grown. I have had Stacy work her magic to color correct a bad dye job(I went to a different salon and boy did I regret it.. It was a learning experience. NEVER GO ELSEWHERE!!). While I am there I have a chance to relax and see the other stylists at work. All around a talented group of stylists. My preferred color looks like it did when I was a child, but better. Strawberry highlights with my own base color. One less thing for me to worry about! read more

I came across Stacy and her team like most crazy brides do - after massive amounts of online research. There wasn't a blog I didn't read, image I didn't pin, and review I didn't read twice. When I came across Styles on B, I reached out and I am forever grateful I did. Stacy was calm, cool and collected - which for a bride is such a gift. Her smile calmed me and her talent wowed me! I couldn't have asked for more! She took her time with me during the trial, worked with me when I went back and forth via email a crazy amount of times, and the day of the wedding gave me the style I had desperately wanted on hair that is less than ideal (it's frizzy and thin, a horrible combo). 5 months later (today) I went to her to get my haircut (background: I rarely cut my hair because I'm really paranoid about who touches it) and she worked wonders again.
