It's difficult being in my early 30s, single, working in tech and having a lackluster wardrobe. My work outfits have to look professional without looking "corporate". I also need age appropriate, feminine looks for dates. Needless to say, I wasn't pulling it off shopping on my own and it was hurting my confidence. My closet was embarrassing small due to the fact that I didn't enjoy shopping and I had a hard time finding clothing that fit (I'm 6 ft tall). I heard about StyleKouncil at an event and read the yelp reviews ... eventually I decided to give it a try. Working with Kat was absolutely fantastic from start to finish and I wish I had done it sooner. We began with a survey and a review of my closet. I didn't know what my style was, but Kat seemed to ask all the right questions until we landed on "classic and feminine, but with an edge". She showed me how to work with what I already had and made a list of pieces I needed. A few weeks later we went shopping. Kat went ahead of time to pick out pieces in the morning and I went in the afternoon. I usually go to stores and feel overwhelmed by too many options. It was so great to simply walk into a dressing room full of clothes that fit and matched my personality. Kat was also great at helping me feel relaxed at the beginning (excitement & nerves got the best of me for a second) and at gently nudging me out of comfort zone (I didn't own a single skirt until I went shopping with Kat and now I can't wait to buy more!). I told Kat that quality was important, but I also liked getting a good deal as well. Luckily, she knew where all the deals were and, excluding two investment pieces (that I absolutely love!!!), everything was on sale. I came home with 18 new pieces and was well within my budget. We didn't find every piece on my list, but I'll be shopping with Kat again when the spring/summer collections arrive. It's so much less stress in my life to know I'll go shopping 2-3 times a year for a few hours and walk away with great looks. It's a great confidence booster for my professional and dating life. I cannot wait to go to work on Monday and for my next date. I cannot recommend Kat and StyleKouncil highly enough! read more

Kat was a life-saver. I've been in school more or less continuously since 2007 and my work attire during that period consisted of scrubs. So suffice it to say that my business attire was next to non-existent. I was nearing the end of my graduate degree and preparing for several interviews when I realized I needed to rectify this. I located Style Kouncil online and described my predicament to Kat. The particulars included a recent weight gain (subsequent to a new baby while in my 40s while in grad school) as well as a total lack of wardrobe basics. This was further complicated by my need to have several interview outfits within a week's time. Though I was skeptical of the need for a closet inventory due to a lack of clothing and my recent purging (I'd already Kon-Mari'd the closet) this part of the process proved necessary. It allowed Kat to see first hand what I loved/hated about my current wardrobe as well as make a very detailed list of basics that I needed to acquire. As I was unemployed, Kat developed a lovely billing plan that I could afford. She really hustled to fit me into her wicked busy schedule and get me into some clothes (not easy to find great clothing options for size 14-16 but she did it with style). I met her at the Bloomingdales dressing room and she already had racks of outfits waiting for me to try. I felt like a million bucks. We also hit two other stores in the mall to fill in some needed basics/shoes; I was all set for my interview. The first several interviews I went to resulted in job offers. I'm certain the confidence I had as a result of my wardrobe greatly contributed. What's more, I took what I learned from the process with Kat in terms of brands and silhouettes that look good on my new figure and used it to fill out my wardrobe all on my own (see included pics). I can't emphasize enough how fantastic Kat is. She really keyed directly into what my needs were and I always felt my best interests were at the forefront of her mind at all times---really--right down to her making certain I was not being taken advantage of by a clerk's sales pitch. Do yourself a favor and take advantage of this service. I am 100% going to have her work with me again as soon as I accept one of my job offers and am getting that cash money! read more

Kat rocks! I hate shopping so my clothes had become kind of old. I had lost a lot of weight so most of what I had was also too big. And over the years my sense of style had been neglected and put on the back burner and so I knew I needed help to update my wardrobe (and my life). I talked to several personal shoppers before Kat and I didn't feel like they "got me" or even cared that much about what I was looking for. Once I saw her website and read about her style and personality I thought "here's someone who will probably get me." And I was right! We talked on the phone and hit it off. I could tell she understood what I was looking for. She sent me a great questionnaire where about what I liked and didn't like, what I wanted to look like, what kind of clothes I needed, budget, style, etc. She came to my house and went through my entire closet--pants, shirts, sweaters, socks, shoes, formal wear, casual wear, coats, hats, etc. and we talked about what I liked and didn't like and also what looked good on me and what didn't. I think about 90% of my stuff ended up in the donation pile. It was a great feeling, and also a bit scary to let go of the past; but Kat was there to reassure me about letting go and encourage me about how much better things would be once I got some new clothes that looked good and fit well. She went pre-shopping so when I showed up at the stores she already had a rack of clothes in the dressing rooms for me to choose from and try on. That saved me a lot of time and eliminated much of the tedium that I don't like about looking for clothes. I ended up buying a lot of clothes from a few different stores on that trip and I had fun doing it which was surprising and amazing. It was fun to see things from a different perspective and expand my horizons. I got so many compliments on my new clothes and style. I was great for my happiness and confidence. Since that initial shopping trip we've gotten together a few other times over the last few years for further updates and additions and it's always a fun time, which is surprising to me since, as I said, I normally hate shopping! Also, Kat knows that I like a bargain so she always seems to find me things that are on sale, and/or we shop at places where she gets some pretty good discounts! I love that! I'm really happy that I met Kat and I'm glad to know her have access to her expertise, advice, and shopping skills when I need them. I still get compliments on my clothing and style all the time. To anyone who may be on the fence about hiring a personal shopper in general, or Kat specifically; I say go for it. Do something nice for yourself. Get a new look. Get some new clothes. You'll be happy that you did. read more

Wow, where to start... Having Kat as a stylist is a completely amazing experience. This was a gift for a big birthday, and it was truly one of the best gifts ever! On a practical level I leaned a lot: how to shop for quality, and that "even I" can find things in the mall. I got some GREAT new clothes, along with a complete overhaul of my closet. Kat is really wonderful at what she does and what I really appreciate is her clarity and precision. You don't spend tons of time debating items either in your closet or in a store -- it's relatively quick but not at all rushed. I HATE shopping, and even I had a great time on our shopping spree-- she somehow makes it both easy and fun. Kat is sensitive, intuitive and has great taste, but what's important is that she doesn't impose her taste on you-- she brings out the best of your taste. She doesn't turn you into someone else-- just a better version of yourself. The take away: having help by a true professional that is kind, caring and supremely knowledgeable at what she does rocks! Kat helps you be precise about what items you need, knows where to go to find them, and even where to get existing items mended or hemmed. She's savvy to the sales, brand quality, what styles look good on each body type, and and so much more. To have Kat really help you in this way and then pre-shop for you is an absolutely AMAZING experience!! I really would love to gift this to everyone I love! read more

Kat and her team go above and beyond to refine the style of her clients. I first met Kat on set shooting a print ad for Mondavi Woodbridge wine. We laughed and connected on a genuine and authentic level. My experience of Kat is that she is professional, intuitive and easy to work with. She styled me for 5 days of red carpet celebrity interviews and events for the Sundance Film Festival. I had to dress classy and chic and she did a wonderful job combining the two. The international network I represented had 1.2 Billion viewers and she fulfilled their requirements. She styled me in Diane Von Furstenberg, BCBG Max Azria, AQUA and other great designers. I would recommend Kat. Like my page on www.facebook.com/ErinTjoe to see outfits that Kat styled me in. read more

Kat and Kelly are incredible. It would not be an understatement to say that working with them has completely changed how I carry myself in the world. When I came to them I had been wearing the same types of clothes since age 15. I'm now 30 years old and I wanted to look grown up (but still fun) and had no idea how to do it. Friends had taken me on shopping trips for this and that, but I really needed a style overhaul. I was lazy about my appearance, and my style reflected that-- I looked over-casual, too young, and occasionally frumpy. The "closet consultation" was great-- before even going shopping, they had revamped my existing wardrobe to put things together I would never have thought of doing. The next week I wore my exact same wardrobe but looked much better. Then on the shopping day, they picked out some great stuff-- I felt like they really "got" me and understood the style I was looking for. Fast forward to now, when I literally walk around the world differently. In the morning I have great clothes to put on and I feel fantastic. I didn't expect my looks to affect my confidence so much. I was also nervous that I wouldn't feel "cool" since they were so fashionable, but they were so down-to-earth that I felt completely at ease. Their patience made me feel comfortable, yet they also knew when to push me to get rid of things that just don't look good anymore. And they knew how to pick out women's plus size clothes that were actually attractive. It's great too because I still don't have to spend a lot of effort on my clothes-- I just have much nicer things to choose from. This kind of amazingness isn't cheap, but it's well worth it when you consider what you are getting. For me I hadn't really gone shopping for close to 10 years (I had just bought stuff online wherever I could get free shipping) so I was way overdue. I felt that the price was quite reasonable compared to the services I received. In particular because they are both fashion experts so you get access to that expertise. Also they had different packages to choose from which helped with the cost too. If you're looking for a new perspective on your clothes and your life, I definitely encourage you to check them out. read more

Kat saved me hundreds of dollars on our shopping trip -- over 50% in savings! We came in under budget, and I came home with an entirely new wardrobe. She turned what would normally be a miserable task (for me) into something quick, fun, cost-effective, and productive. She really got to know me and my needs and absolutely delivered. My 10-year-old came along just to watch Kat in action. Thanks Kat and the StyleKouncil! read more

It was such a pleasure to have Kat help me with my wardrobe woes! I had never worked with a personal shopper before, and I'm glad I did. I found Kat via Yelp--thank you, fellow Yelpers! I'll admit I had some reservations about opening my home and showing the contents of my closet to a stranger, but Kat was very professional throughout the entire process. I never got the sense that I was being judged, and I felt that she genuinely wanted to help. Her calm and down-to-earth demeanor helped me feel more at ease. I've found that Kat has a keen eye for what works and doesn't work for my body, especially when it comes to fabric, fit, and cut. Initially, I had some trouble pinpointing what my desired fashion style was, but during the closet review, Kat was able to get a sense of what style I tended to gravitate towards. I love that she gave ideas on new ways for me to combine some of my existing pieces to create new outfits. I met with Kat at the Westfield mall a week after the closet review to find items that would complement my existing wardrobe. She had already done the legwork of picking out and setting aside items for me at various stores. She was also very respectful of my budget. One of my requests was to find slim dress pants for work, so she made sure to pull multiple options for me to try. Out of the bunch, I only picked out two pairs of pants, but I did buy other great tops and jackets. There was no pressure to buy any of the items, and I appreciate that Kat was honest if something didn't look good on me. This experience with Kat has helped me get a better grasp on what styles and colors work better for my body type. Positive experience overall! read more

Kat definitely changed my world. And it was totally easy and fun. I am not an intuitively stylish person, but I can be really particular. Kat rolled with both of these things (and then some!) and just spun one brilliant idea after another. Our first shopping outing was BEFORE we even had a closet curation and she and Kelly just nailed it - without costing an arm and a leg. The perfect jacket, brilliant shoes, shirts, even sweaters! Stuff I never would have chosen or imagined I could make work, but somehow they envisioned it perfectly. It all fit together really well and, most importantly, fit with me. It would have taken me years to put together what they did in one morning. This was the perfect start with Style Kouncil. Months down the line, when I had more budget, time and inclination to update the professional side of the wardrobe, Kat had a better sense for my style, curated my closet with ease, and, again, nailed the shopping trip - perfect finds, affordable (esp. with her discount) prices, and fun/quick enough to avoid shopping fatigue. Thanks so much! I feel better just thinking about what Style Kouncil has done for me. read more

Kat was efficient and great to work with. She took my vague sense of what I wanted my style to be, a mid-range budget, and changed my closet into something I can actually use with confidence. I get out of the door faster each morning, actually have fun with clothing, and know when I leave the house that I am not going to look like an unintentional hobo hipster of san francisco. Also, I'd definitely have her pre-shop. It's beyond worth it if you hate shopping for yourself. read more

My dear sweet husband was tired of hearing me say "I have nothing to wear" and decided to gift me with a styling session with Kat. My life is forever changed! She has taught me so much about style, color, trend, and fit. Best of all, she has helped me regain a sense of style confidence that has been missing for a long time. I initally met with Kat at home and we purged my closet of all ill fitting and tired pieces. Just with that session, she helped open my eyes to new outfit possibilities with pieces I already owned! Do you get the significance of that?!? No shopping was required, which was a huge relief for this busy and tired mama. Let's be honest, purging a closet and refining one's personal style can be emotionally draining but Kat had the ability to put me at ease while adding a healthy dose of humor. She is just so easy to be around! Eventually it came time to shop, given we had signficantly weeded out my closet and I had no black pants to my name. We shopped at Gap and Uniqlo and had a super successful shopping trip in just under 2 hours. While there are still 'must haves' to purchase, I feel that Kat has taught me the necessary tools I need to try finding them on my own. I love how confident I feel in my Kat Kreations ;) and beginning to feel more comfortable making new wardrobe creations of my own! read more

Kat and Kelly came to the rescue! They went through my closet and helped me figure out what was and wasn't working - they managed somehow to not only tell me tactfully that almost none of my clothes fit, they were also able to get me excited about defining my personal style and getting clothes that actually made me look good. I was nervous that whatever looks they chose for me would be difficult for me to maintain or wouldn't really match my personality, but nope! They spent a lot of time building me a collection of easy to wear staples, teaching me basic rules of accessorizing, and making sure that none of my looks were too fussy or complicated. Anyway, I look really hot now. Thanks, StyleKouncil! read more

Style Kouncil possesses a remarkably astute sense of style and the expression thereof as an extension of personal identity. Unfortunately, I made use of their services during a period when one of the founders was exiting the company and the resultant experience suffered dramatically. The end results were delayed timelines and sub-standard deliverables. Not only was the personal style writeup so late as to make it unusable (after a style season change) the document was lacking in any meaningful detail. The bottom line is my wife, to whom I gifted the service, was left with a cleaner closet and no better understanding of her personal style -- and quite disappointed. Change is hard, but in this case I believe the customer (me) paid the [full, undiscounted] price for the staff changes at Style Kouncil. With this consummate lack of professionalism, I cannot/cannot recommend their services. read more

I have no interest in fashion but understand that first impressions count, so I hired Kat. She was great! She first did a session at my house going through my clothes, which not only helped me get rid of dated items but also gave her a sense of my (lack of) style. Then she took that sense and ramped it up; she chose items that were within my comfort zone but looked better and fit better. She "pre-shopped" - filled dressing rooms of clothes for me to try without my having to suffer through hours of shopping. I have a refreshed wardrobe that I feel good wearing. Highly recommended. read more

Like some other people, I hesitated writing this review because I wanted this gem all to myself! Kat at StyleKouncil has changed my life, it's not just about the clothes in your closet, or knowing what's fashionable to wear. It's about finding that unique expression of you. Something that works for you as an individual, and not the mass market. This was something I didn't know until I met Kat. Before I started working with Kat my closet was overwhelming, shopping was an exhausting and panic buying experience that ended mostly in returns or expensive items I never wore. Kat worked with me on my closet (no easy task), really listened to what I wanted to achieve and helped me with invaluable shopping trips and tips. Now I'm confident, I feel and look my best, I know what works with my own personal look, and I actually enjoy shopping for clothes! This is the best money I've ever spent, and I'm definitely keeping Kat at the top of my go to list. read more

Kat is AMAZING! I did two parts with her, the first part she came to my house and helped me go through my closets and bags of clothes. I had been trying for years to clean it out, and had done a pretty good job, yet still had way too many clothes (over flowing) and only wore about 5 outfits. She helped tackle my closet, see what I was missing (for the style I was wanting to go for) and even helped me pair items together I would have never thought about. All of a sudden with what was already IN MY CLOSET she made me look like what I wanted. I had been throwing away hundreds of dollars buying things that never worked for me. I kept buying cheaper things since every time I bought something I barely wore it anyways I didn't want to waste money. I WAS WRONG. My closet was dwindled down to manageable AND she organized it so I could easily use it. This alone was worth it all! Then 2 months later she went out shopping with me. She already had a list of what I needed and since she is always out shopping she always knows where everything is. No more wasting time, crying in fitting rooms, never finding the right thing (or going back to a store you remember seeing something like that a month ago and now you can't find anywhere in any mall). She pin pointed it all and we were able to get SO MUCH STUFF. SO.MUCH.STUFF. At 4 stores in my budget and she took me to all the great sales. Let me break it down in case you think I'm lying. $460 at JCrew, Gap, Zara and Topshop in Nordstroms. And no, not one item in each store, I got a denim jacket, amazing soft tee, cute skirt, a really nice cardigan, graphic tee, merino wool sweater, great shirt for travel or going out, cutest 50's style sweater, pants, shorts, another shirt, belt, denim button up shirt and a cute soft button up. YES ALL UNDER $500. WHAT. before I would buy stuff that yes, may be those prices, but these are all really nice, I actually own nice things now. So I'm really happy, and she made sure everything works together so I can mix and match. If you've made in this far in my I love Kat rant then you should just call her. SAVE YOUR SELF AND YOUR FUTURE MONEY ON BAD CLOTHES!! Or don't you can keep wasting money like me, because you know, we all make so much money that we love to throw it away at forever 21 (she did let me keep some of my forever 21 so don't worry you don't have to part with all of it). read more

I am pleased and honored to give Kat and her team an extremely positive review! She gets it. She really does. She pays attention to your idiosyncrasies, dials in to your hopes, and delivers insight, support and fantastic clothes! I resisted the idea of a style consultant for a long time...thinking it seemed too extravagant and fussy for a guy like myself. However, I was in a new job, where my shirts and ties from 2002 no longer suited who and what I wanted to be. Kat figured out my ideal style very quickly...cleaned out my closet, did a bunch of research, and led me on a shopping tour I would never have expected. I never really have had the time to know about or understand clothes, or know how to shop for myself, and Kat is a professional in just that. She gets it. read more

Kat and Kelly are life changers! I went from dreading getting dressed in the morning to excitedly thinking about what awesome outfit I'm going to wear days in advance. Their shopping service is dreamy - showing up to a rack of clothes in your size selected especially for you is something every woman should experience at least once. They spent a lot of time talking to me about what I wanted and needed. I felt like they really "got" me and could easily help me make me an even better version of myself. What can I say? Kat and Kelly are pretty great. Before StyleKouncil, I really hadn't shopped (except for jeans and outdoor clothing) in at least two years. I was in a holding pattern and seriously bored with my clothes. They helped me clear out the tired clothes from my closet and showed me ways to wear the clothes I already had in fresh ways. Then, we went shopping. I am someone who hates shopping, but I enjoyed shopping with them. They pre-shopped, making the my experience efficient and fun. I feel that they got my personality and the style I aspire to, and helped me regain that. Since their assistance, I'm looking sharper, having fun getting dressed (something I hadn't experienced in a long time), getting compliments, and feeling more confident in my personal style. I don't have the time, energy, or fashion knowledge to find clothes that really work for me. They do. read more

I don't write a lot of Yelp reviews, but these guys are amazing. They made getting a stylist/personal shopper into something that seems practical and smart. Kat is awesome and exactly what I needed. I've been trying to improve my wardrobe for years, but I kept spending money and ending up with the same boring results. I described my work attire as "Banana Republic sales rack" and my weekend look as frumpy lumberjack...or "frumperjack". Kat gently helped me edit my closet. She calls it Closet Curation. Two hours and a large pile of castoffs later, I understood that I've been buying my shirts and jackets too large. Also, I was choosing collars that didn't work well for my face. And of course, there were my sentimental favorites which didn't fit, but just took up space in the closet. Kat gracefully helped me to prune out a lot of junk to make room for new looks. A week later we met for shopping. She went pre-shopping two hours ahead of me, which was fantastic. By the time I met up with her she had a stack of things for me to try on in several stores. It saved me hours, and I ended up with a ton of new clothes. One of the most surprising and impressive things about Kat was her sensitivity to my budget. Other stylists I had talked to were all about spending a fortune on designer names, but Kat found me some incredible deals. Yes, I bought some quality pieces, but I never felt pressured to buy anything I didn't want. I found her to be professional, smart, and compassionate. She was super clear about our plan, she always explained why one look worked better than another....it wasn't just some random opinion... and she never made me feel judged. I'm looking forward to working with her again in the Fall. read more

I am thrilled to write a review for Kat and StyleKouncil! I was gifted a wardrobe consult and shopping outing from my fabulous husband - this was the best birthday gift ever! During her wardrobe consult, Kat helped me sort through a ton of "meh" pieces that I just couldn't figure out what to do with. I ended up donating/consigning a good number of pieces, and bringing some pieces from the brink of death with great new arrangements recommended by Kat. Then we had a great time shopping for pieces to further round out my wardrobe. Kat did an amazing job finding pieces that fit my style and comfort, but enhanced my look. Kat made me feel incredibly comfortable, she was so much fun to chat with, and she was mindful of my budget. I've used personal shoppers from department stores before, and this blew those experiences out of the water. This was money very well invested! Thank you Kat! read more

I'd gotten to the point where my disdain for clothes shopping was becoming a real problem for me. Luckily, Kat & Kelly appeared in my life and turned my problem into an adventure. I couldn't ask for better guides. They took the time to understand what I wanted my style to be -- a process that unearthed it for me as well. In our two fantastically fun shopping trips together, they did all the stuff that would previously have made me run for the exits. I simply showed up and tried on clothes they'd preselected for me. Because there are two of them, one could grab the right size while I kept motoring through the fitting process (which if left on my own would have made me break out in hives). I wasn't plagued by questions of value because they knew my price range and chose pieces that fit within it -- and with each other.
