There is about 60-years experience in this tiny little salon. It is everyday woman making a living. The do men's haircuts and beards. They do the old fashion curlers for elderly as well as upscale hair fashions styling for women. I love the clientele and it is what I call "my happy place." We talk about everything. They only do hair:) but they do it well.!!! Ms. Faye has own this business for many years. Maybe, 30-40 years? If you want nails done; there is a nail salon right beside the hair salon. Many of the stylists go and get their nail done here. I have not been; but I might try it soon. Remember, everyone who works here, have their own individual clientele. Then I call way before my appointment to let the stylist know I would be late for to me planning for a family occasion but I would still come! Her response was are still coming at all? I said yes but I will be late,not sure if the time.She said fine. No problem And of course it was my birthday it was raining etc. she call me at least 2 more times before I could even get there. So lucky me as I'm walking in she just finished her only client and before She starts on my hair she leaves me in the shop alone several times to do whatever, had to keep stopping. While waiting on help cuz she had a crying baby.so her help finally arrived and in their language everything funny then he other worker says while they are watching a Nigerian movie I wish I could take a lot of you back to Africa with me just so u can see how it is, but y'all don't like to travel... first off who is y'all?It took everything in me to not feel uncomfortable I'm not sure what she meant exactly because let everyone tell it we all from Africa or arrived that way. Where do I even begin…read more I had an appointment scheduled with Alannah at 11am. When I entered this "establishment" she was sitting in the barber chair on her phone and someone else had to ask who I was here for, no greeting, no hello, nothing. Not that any of that really matters that much to me, its just a really bad first impression. She then calls me over, right off the jump, extremely terrible attitude I mean the girl was just oozing negativity. I was about to show her a photo of a cut I wanted, nothing crazy really, just a clean up on something I already had. She has this extremely fake passive-aggressive smile, it was like my mere presences there was making her angry. Anyways, I finally spoke up and asked if there was an issue and she tried to tell me there wasn't one but again I could just tell she didn't mean a word she said. I then explained to her I was good on the haircut and proceed to get up and walk out. I was thinking to myself, "YUP let me let this really angry negative girl cut my hair" LOL. Fortunately, this terrible experience actually led me to an AMAZING barber (shout out to Parris @ Avenue13 Barbershop)! The overall atmosphere was extremely pretentious too, really bright lights and just weird energy all around. If you are looking for a professional experience from beginning to end your money is better spent elsewhere.

However, while the professional was cutting my kid's hair, another hair cutter was loudly and repeatedly voicing her opinion that Travon Martin (the kid killed by George Zimmerman) had been shopping for watermelon soda and Skittles so that he could manufacture some sort of crystal meth facsimile out of the materials. She repeated over and over again to her trapped customer (who was obviously uncomfortable with the repeated racist remarks) that all the kids today are making drugs out of Skittles and watermelon soda. She insisted that the media promoted Trayvon Martin as an innocent child while he was in reality a meth cook. My 12-year-old looked over at me in shock that an adult was announcing this with a child in the room. When we walked out of the Best Family Hairstyling salon my kid and I had to have a talk about one of the unfortunate consequences of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. After I have a chance to speak to the store manager, I'll consider raising my Yelp score to a 5.
