At my last appointment, I booked another one for 8 weeks out. Once that 8 weeks came around, I totally forgot about the appointment. There system doesn't let you cancel or reschedule an appointment on the same day, but Sherri was so so kind to me. I still came to the salon but only had a shampoo & style since I was not feeling a haircut yet. She was very kind and explained to me that the system doesn't let them reschedule once it's the day of the event. It was my own fault, being a busy, scatterbrained mom but I'm so thankful that Sherri worked with me. Her compassion alone will keep me coming back. Idelette always gets my hair just right and even helps me decide what I want to do with my hair next. I also really love the layout and feel of the salon. It feels very casual & beachy boho without feeling like another beach salon. I'm looking forward to my next visit here & will continue coming here due to the owners commitment to great service.

My hair has since grown back, and with clarity, I feel comfortable sharing my experience. I booked a haircut online for a listed price of $70. During booking, I shared a reference photo and explained in detail that my hair is very long and thick, and that I needed a stylist who would be patient and not rush the service. When I arrived, I re-showed the reference photo and reiterated what I wanted. Once I was in the chair, the stylist explained that she only has one hour per client. Despite this, the appointment felt rushed and disorganized. I know this because my service ran into her next client's scheduled time. That client waited for a period of time and ultimately canceled with her and worked with another stylist in the salon. While the stylist stated she only had one hour per client, my appointment ran well beyond that. My scheduled appointment time was 12:30 PM. I received a text at 11:43 AM asking if I wanted to come in early, and my receipt was sent to me at 2:13 PM. Even accounting for arriving early, this places my appointment at over two hours from start to finish--far longer than the one-hour window that was repeatedly referenced. I specifically asked for layered hair with shorter layers to help with the weight. Instead, I was given long layers, and my hair was thinned out without my consent ( as you can see the bottom portion of my hair is noticeably thin, compared to the top) . I didn't say anything at the time because the thinning had already been done and couldn't realistically be fixed. While my hair is healthy and grows back, the haircut I received was not the haircut I asked for. It wasn't "messed up," but it also wasn't what I requested. At checkout, the stylist leaned over and whispered to the receptionist, after which an additional $25 charge for thick/long hair was added. This charge was not discussed with me directly, despite my hair length and thickness being clearly disclosed before booking. After leaving a Google review outlining these concerns, the owner publicly accused me of never being a client and stated she stood by her stylist, without acknowledging the issues raised. Later that same night, I was contacted directly via text around 10:30 PM asking to "chat." That message was unsolicited and crossed a professional boundary, especially after publicly dismissing my experience. The outreach did not include an apology and felt more focused on protecting the business's image than addressing client concerns. I was polite throughout this entire process and even tipped my stylist. There was no malice on my end--just honest feedback. While my hair did grow back, not everyone is in that position, and an experience like this could be very upsetting for someone struggling with self-image. Ultimately, the lack of communication, consent, and professionalism--both during the service and afterward--is why I would not return and why I'm sharing this experience here for other women

Well, whoever booked my appointment and chose my stylist chose to ignore my request and book me with a stylist who is a new grad. That was the first mistake. I went in there, asking for highlights and to go back brunette because my hair was auburn. So I wanted a simple brunette with a partial highlight to add a bit of dimension. Long story short, my hair has so many different colors going on, some parts are overly processed, and then the top parts were not lifted for long enough and are still very copper because she was very slow at placing foils. I was there for over four hours, and this is the result? And at the bare minimum, nobody should walk out of a professional salon with color stains all over their face. * My hair stylist was Gena Day * When I called about my concerns, the manager offered to have me come in and fix it but only gave me 1 time slot availability which was not a time I was available for. So she ended up refunding me 50% of what I paid. The crazy part is she didn't even agree that my hair looked like crap and she defended the work. Then she let me know how often to come and get my hair trimmed because there was some damage. Prior I had been going to Hair Cuttery to get my hair colored and the lady I saw there never informed me of a bald spot. So, from now on I will only come to Merengue for haircuts at the very least. I will definitely be back next month to get my hair colored. They were all so nice when I was getting my hair done. It hurt a bit, but that's because I'm extremely tender headed. My one and only complaint is that the hair dryer was extremely hot and it left a tiny burn mark on the top of my head. Perhaps come by and check to see how the heat is going with your clients. That's the only bad thing I can say. This place is wonderful. It's right up the street from my house. I can't believe this was my first time going there. Thanks again. Great job. Update. Something worth noting, and it is important... everyone in this particular salon rents their booth space so there is no receptionist. The stylists are their own boss, their own scheduler, their own shampooer, their own sweeper, their own cashier, their own everything, etc. Now, with that said, and I'm only speaking on behalf of Kristin, she does not confirm appointments. She will make them with you but does not confirm. I've gone to her for 13 years and not once have I ever received a confirmation call from her, here at this salon nor at when I met her at the now defunct Bubbles. Trust me when I say Kristin will be there when you make your appointment whether it be 1 day, 1 week, or 1 month in advance. The only time she contacts you is if she has to move you or reschedule for rare occasions. She is very accommodating and real with you. If she can or can't do something, she will say so, and I love that about her.
