I was a walk in, but there was no one in the salon. I was directed to the chair to get my hair cut and the chair had not been clean from the last person. The Velcro on the cape had all kinds of hair and lint stuck in it. I was not super specific about what I wanted for a cut but gave the stylist a good description and pictures. I got a a hair cut not at all like the pictures I showed, and the shorter parts of the cut have long hairs coming out in all places. It was not trimmed around the ears or neck line. Just a careless cut in general. I will not go there again, paid a good amount for a careless cut, that I do not like and had to pay at another salon to get it fixed, now I have a super short cut and no way to style it until it grows out. This place is terrible for female haircuts. I asked the hairstylist, Charlene, to layer my hair because I wanted more volume. It was supposed to be a simple haircut because it doesn't require precision. Instead of vertically layering my hair with the top layers cut shorter than the layers beneath. The hairstylist cut my hair into two horizontal sections where the top layer is right above my ears with a clear line separating the top and the bottom layer. It looks like I have the Great Wall of China on the back of my head. I was mortified! I came in with long hair. Since the top layer is so high up, there is no way of saving it unless I cut my hair just below my ears. Because it takes 2 months to grow an inch, I am looking at 6 months before my hair is back to normal. I honestly advise female customers to stay away from this place. If the stylist doesn't understand what layering means, you can't expect them to do anything more advance. read more

Flew in Boston for work. And guess what, the TSA took my hair conditioner. Had a quarter size of emergency conditioner & used hotel's. I wasn't expecting a styled haircut when I came in for an emergency hair cut with no appointment. I just needed my mane cut off and was too unsure about how to do it myself. I told the girl (dark, wavy hair, short, pretty), whose name I forget but am such a fan now, that I needed it shortened and layered if possible. She calmly went through what she would do and she did that and more! My hair came out beautifully cut and styled and I was really happy with her work. Asian hair does not lend itself to hair cutting mistakes and she did an amazing job making all the layers, and angles and side bangs look perfect. She was friendly, but not too in my business and really made me feel comfortable and confident about being in her hands. Even more I was out in about 20 min! Never again.... For guys: the basic cut is 14.99$ (which includes water to wet your hair and the cut). You then leave with soaking wet hair. To cut and dry they charge 31$ !!! So, in the dead of winter, it will cost you 31$ if you don't want to freeze to death outside... Also, they don't smile, don't talk to you and don't brush the cut hairs off your face or neck; you get to take those home. However, the cut was decent. After my barber closed up in 2007 in Waltham I had to find a new place. I prefer an actual Barber shop, however I really needed a hair cut and went to Stylecuts. Overall, this place really depends on who you have cutting your hair. Kristine is the best, she's friendly, once you get her talking. However I have had a few new girls who act like they just got out of beauty school. Far from practiced, but my hair cut is generally pretty easy, at least I would think so when it's a military hair cut (modified high and tight aka not so high but yes nice and tight). Yes they have TV's there, so if your not using the clippers you can watch the news or whatever's on. They do offer an assortment of up chargers, such as a neck shave (which my old Barber did for free) shampoo and put product in your hair. They do take appointments as well and you can request one of the stylist if she's working that day. I say she because the only man I've ever seen working there seems to be more management or owner than stylist. Overall it's good enough for me to come back to get my hair cut, but I wouldn't recommend my wife going for something more elaborate. read more

Men's cuts: Value is very good. I don't mind paying $20 for a solid haircut, neck shave and shampoo (which isn't just a quick wash, they get in there for a solid minute or two). I always go for the combo for the value. I have had several different stylists and have never had a bad cut. The stylists are friendly and engaging, but take the hint if you'd just like to stay quiet and watch TV. Like any chain, the quality will be varying depending on the stylist, so you have to look at the overall value and consistency. At the end of the day, I would never go to a Supercuts or Great Cuts again if StyleCuts is an option. The one con I would say is that they should make it a hot neck shave, either by using a hot towel or heating the shaving cream. That would just make it a notch better. read more

Poor client management. I was a walk-in without appointment and upon arrival was told that nobody was in front of me but one person had called ahead for an appointment at the same time. He was already 10 minutes late but they wanted to give him a few more minutes to show up. After 15 minutes of keeping me waiting (which would have been enough time to finish my buzz cut style) the customer walks in and I get bumped back. So far so good. I was told to wait for another 10 min or so. 20 min later the gentleman's haircut is done and I was expecting to get called up next. Not so fast, Mr.! Because by then the next scheduled customer was supposed to arrive - who was also late. They kept me waiting again and bumped me back another time when the second customer walked in. Frustrated, I left without having my hair cut. Had I known about this I would have left the moment I walked in, but originally I was told to wait 10 min. I was desperately in need of a trim and can't get to my hair stylist. So I went her for a quick trim. I asked the stylist, Amanda, to just follow the hair style I currently have but just a bit shorter. I also asked that I do not want her to use a razor thin out my hair. She immediately said " your hair should never be cut with a razor. Otherwise it will be frizzy". I thought wow, she knows her stuff. As she was cutting my hair, she kept saying "oh I can tell the last person who cut your hair really ruined your hair by using a razor." I was just shocked when she said that b/c my hair have not been cut with a razor for many years. I was so afraid what my hair will look like after she was finished. Since I need just a trim, my hair was still damp when I left there. When I got home and styled my hair, I realized she ruined the hairstyle I had. The second I walked in I felt comfortable. First this salon is very clean and second they have TV's on every station. I have never experienced this before. I sat on my chair and gave my stylist my concerns I want a change but not a huge one, I am conservative and she understood. I usually feel pressured but she made me feel comfortable and the result were more than I could of imagined.
