I needed a knee replacement and decided to have Dr. Porter as a surgeon. He was amazing! He takes the time to answer questions and the care and surgery was above and beyond my expectations. Jess was there to answer any and all questions when I called. She too was on her game getting back with any concerns. The stay at Sturdy was longer than expected due to blood pressure but the nurses were so caring. They responded so quickly to the call button and were helpful. I was blessed to have Jakki, Marie, Richard, Liz and also Ashley. They are an outstanding group of nurses, CNA's and phlebotomist. I had a friend visit who is a RN and she commented on how well the floor seemed to work together and everyone was smiling. Impressive! Last but not least, the PT department shines. Will is such a warm, encouraging attribute to Sturdy. He was patient and truly cared about me while I was in his care. Thank you Will. His helper Tye was also very sweet. Overall I could not ask for a better team of caring professionals and would recommend Sturdy to anyone needing medical care. read more

Had to do in patient procedure as previous attempt in the office did not work. Was a bit scared reading the many 1 star reviews but did not have any major problems. Went in for day surgery and the pre op took long as expected and the care team was good. Surgeon explained procedure very well and members of the care team communicated well with me and made sure I understand what went on. After procedure went to the pacu and nurses promptly responded to my needs. Helped make sure I was good for discharge and they updated my loved one through out the process. The only negative was that the ORs were behind and had to wait longer than scheduled and I was separated from my partner from the procedure until discharge. read more

From check in to triage to ER acute care assessment/treatment area, CT scan, Phlebotomist, MD on duty. I felt cared for, supported, nurtured, and an integral part of the plan of care. The education and communication was by far the best I've ever seen in any hospital. This hospital is blessed to have David (tech), Juan (RN), and unfortunately I do not recall their names but the CT scan tech and ER Dr were wonderful! The care at Sturdy is exceptional and the processing from admitting, paperwork, to triage, to phlebotomy, to acute care is speedy (for an ER) and flows well. Kudos to the manager of the ER for running a tight and smooth sailing ship and selecting the right crew that keep things smoothly sailing. read more

Several months ago I went to Sturdy Plainville for medication for a IV site infection. I had been released from RI Trauma Ctr after 7 days the day before and resting peacefully at home. Plainville Ctr sent me back to Sturdy ER for treatment. I looked pretty beat up with massive facial hematomas. I was seemingly a second rate patient. Nurses were testy, aid walked by without acknowledging a request for anything from a drink or food. After 12 HOURS of this ineptitude from medical staff and Physicians, non-attention to what I was there for, an IV site infection and no knowledge of my biggest issue, 7 broken ribs. I had to request and AMA if I was going to get any healthy rest. There was no consideration of the pain I was in with 7 BROKEN RIBS. Nursing expected me to just stay in the stretcher and "go to sleep" , Nursing was clueless as to why I was there, the degree of my pain and ignored any request for meds. (After 7 or 8 hours I was offered 2 Tylenol. I thought, (are you kidding me) for 7 broken ribs. At one point I requested to be adjusted in the stretcher. I was moved by a male nurses aid as if my facial hematoma was my only problem. He was rough and I screamed out from pain. He gave the young female nurse a smirk. Also, Dr on duty gave pm medications wrong and without consult with me and gave me an overdose of Seroquel 200mg. My BP crashed in front of him and an ER nurse. I became groggy and had slurred speech. Nurse asked my why I was talking like that and asked if I had taken some drugs as if I was hiding drugs in my pockets or whatever. The doctor showed up and I tried to explained why this was happening. The ER doctor looked at the monitor appearing somewhat perplexed then told the nurse to keep an eye on it and I assume (he) ordered a blood test for potential drug abuse and then went home without letting me know what the hell he was doing and what to expect going forward. He just left and the next time I asked to speak to the doctor I was told had left the hospital and I would not be able to see or speak to him again until the following day, Monday. That's when I became so disillusioned about the past 12 plus hours on a stretcher without tx.I felt there was no good reason to remain in this ER room. I got up, got dressed and after getting some negative attention for getting out of bed I told the nurse to get me an AMA NOW. I took an Uber home, fighting the broken rib pain and exhaustion from a week in RI ICU and 12 hours in Sturdy ER. I got home, went to bed with not even getting any.Antibiotics. This is an experience I thought would not happen at my beloved city hospital of 74 years but it did. After my experiences with RI Hospital along with RI Orthopedic and RI Cardio from which I have been receving superb services I will avoid as much as possible any Medical Services from Sturdy with the exception of my PCP and the Rehoboth Ctr for excellent quality of care. read more

Been a customer for years at one of their branch clinics. Taking over 6 months to get a dermatology referral. Over 6 months! When I try to get more focus on this issue all I get is a run around and a litany of useless excuses. I was refused when I tried to call the CEO's office after being sick of hearing the patient advocate people jibber-jabber about nothing. On the positive side, the medical people, when you can get to them, seem to do a pretty good job. But the management of their availability is pathetic. It has as good and bad moments. The staffing is wonderful however we spend more time there eating lunch and stuff. We do anything else. I was at the Care a while back and they were very nice to me and retrospect. They didn't they worked out so I didn't have to pay the $4000 bill because my insurance has a $8000 co-pay and it's way more than my budget will cover. But also when I go, the food is extremely excellent as you can see from the pictures below we have never had a bad meal in their restaurant in the hospital. read more

NO ONE called to tell me I had to find another urology department. Yet, last month Sturdy performed an ultrasound for follow-up. Sturdy doctors discharged my elderly father after a major stroke by ambulance and left him at an abandoned house in the 20 degree weather with no food, water, or coat. He cannot walk or use a phone but was thankfully able to use his voice to call family and be rescued. In December 2025 my father had a major stroke. He had no use of the left side of his body. He was admitted to Sturdy. When he was discharged home, we had serious concerns since he could not walk, toilet himself, dress, eat on his own, etc. he was re-admitted to Sturdy after 3 days home for MRSA. After one day of treatment, my father called me from his cell phone to tell me he was being discharged. He gets confused, so I called the hospital to confirm. I had to call upwards of 20 times to get a response. On two occasions, I called my father's room and heard the person in the background say they "refused to get 'into it' with her (me)". In what scenario does hospital personal refuse to speak with family when they plan to leave a disabled person in that family's care? When I finally heard from a PA, he talked over me and insisted my father can walk. I tried to explain that we had documentation from just a few days prior that not only can he not walk, not even with a walker, he needs "maximum assistance" toileting, dressing, managing medications, and eating. I also tried to explain that he had called me from the hospital floor just 24 hours prior when he had fallen and couldn't reach the nurse button (thank goodness for voice commands on iPhone), and that he had called me numerous times over the day because he was sitting in his urine and feces- clearly indicating he could not handle these tasks alone and that we had been unable to keep him safe after the last discharge. My father has Medicare, and is eligible for plenty of care if the doctors deem so. They refused to even listen. The PA told me he'd be putting my father in an Uber, until I mentioned that he was not medically cleared to be in any vehicle other than an ambulance per a doctor's orders. So he told me he'd put him in an ambulance and that was the end of the story. After frantically trying to reach a nurse, Doctor, or hospital administrator for about 30 minutes, I was told he had been discharged. I received a call from my father 30 minutes later- he had been dropped at an incorrect address- left in an outdoor shed of an abandoned house in the 20 degree weather. He was crying, begging me not to let him die out there. I called police who picked him up and were appalled he had been left like that. They filed an abuse and neglect report with Bristol county elder services. He was brought to another hospital who within 3 hours determined he needed more care, treated his active MRSA for 3 days and then referred him to a skilled nursing facility, where he remains. If not for my father's ability to say "Hey siri, call whomever" we would have gotten no call that he was being discharged, and no call that he was in that shed, freezing. I can't describe how confused I still am about why the hospital would refuse to communicate with the family of a patient. He has insurance, and a family who needed to be involved in his care. I cannot understand what would motivate such callous treatment. My father wakes up every morning to call me and ask him what's going to happen to him today, to have me reassure him he won't be abandoned again. This isn't one bad apple, this is an institutional problem. Avoid this hospital if at all possible. read more

The front desk staff was very kind...but that is the extent of positivity I have to give for this place. A loved one was in a head on collision , I sat in the waiting room for nearly 3 hours, trying not to let the unknown/fear get the best of me. When I finally got up for the 3rd time to ask for some kind of update they said to my face that "they forgot about me". Me and my wife are allowed to go into the back at this point, and are met by some old grouchy lady. She says "it was only supposed to be one of yous back here , say hi and make it quick and get going". At this point I just walked right through because I needed to put eyes on my loved one. There was zero empathy and concern from the staff in the ER. From the patients perspective, they were given no blanket, no water or no pain relief (even Tylenol or something), and were shoved in a hallway on a stretcher. Not a very caring, or clean facility. (Don't get me going on the bathroom with urine all over the toilet seat and floor.) I wouldn't ever want to be treated here, and certainly didn't love the way they treated my loved one!!!! read more

Recently my Sturdy Dr (Dr K died), she was great, and we miss her. I was assigned a new Dr in Plainville Sturdy. I am now told that my prescriptions can't be renewed, and I can't see a new Dr until May. Called the office and was told to try to get my prescriptions from another Dr. Receptionest was nice and friendly, and didn't like the triage nurse telling me to find another dr. I was just diagnosed (by Dr K) with a 4.4cm aeoretic aneurysm, and need my meds (which I told them). After 5 years with Sturdy, I'll see if anyone provides better service... read more

I've been coming to this hospital for decades. The staff is wonderful, you get your results quickly and they have awesome doctors. I had to stay for two days one year, and the ward staff for McAnn was just wonderful. The teams they have clearly care and are passionate for keeping people healthy and it shows every time I've gone in for a diabetes follow up, or MRI/CT scan. Good news or bad, they still stand with you, and if they need to refer others to somewhere else, it's okay, because they know you need something specific. Local hospitals are great, but Sturdy is a gem. They're getting a new Dana Farber cancer center too, so partnering with them, it's just a total win/win. Hopefully I'll never need that part, but if I do, I know I don't need to travel to Foxboro, or Boston to get the same standards. read more

There protocol is like no other. The minute you are triaged they are ordering tests related to your problem. Its a very efficient system. The staff are friendly and caring. Was brought in by ambulance on a Sunday night this past week with severe vomiting and dry heaves symptoms similar to when I had my heart attack two years ago, but the ambulance brought me to sturdy because it was the closest. I have so many mixed feelings because some of the nurses were exceptional, wonderful care however I experience really bad care from some nurses as well. I was in the hospital for three days. Diagnosed me with gastritis and sent me home with no medications. Nothing I had to return back to the ER that same night by ambulance for the same symptoms. The ER doctor was pompous and asked me if I need to go to rehab. It's like what the hell was that supposed to mean? I am still so bothered by his comment and wanna know what the hell he was talking about what made him think I needed rehab and I was there for vomiting. The nurse I had was ignorant when they checked me into my room. There is so much more I would like to say, but won't I will never step foot in this hospital again. read more

Recently I was referred to Sturdy Imaging and had a wonderful technician who handled my care and explained the test I was having very thoroughly. She made my procedure a very positive experience. My not so pleasant experience is with the method being used by Sturdy and other medical facilities to sign forms. Why on earth are we expected to finger sign a device touched by dozens of other patients, many who may already be ill? Not to mention cold and flu season and the constantly mutating Covid virus. This tells me that my health is of less concern than some possible cost cutting measure. And no, I watch closely and these device are not disinfected before being handed to me. read more

Great ER staff, floor staff unprofessional and apparently think that patients are in jail when admitted to the hospital, (I work in one) first I was told "you can't go outside" then I was told if you go out you can't come back unless you check back into the emergency department, again I work in a hospital, I'm waiting on the call back. I can name 4 other hospitals in the city that this would have never happened at because I have been admitted to other hospitals. My brother has been in and out of sturdy Memorial hospital since October. He is receiving the best care. Drs and nurses are so attentive and keep you abreast of what is going on with his care. They have contacted Boston Hospitals to see if they have any treatment other than what they are doing. He has COPD, and his lungs are not healthy. If I could give negative stars....absolutely horrific. Went in with critically low hemoglobin, so was struggling and scared. Nurses dug through my bags, took anything that resembled medication- did not make a list, did not count anything, assured me the pharmacy just had to verify then I would have access to it all. I have extensive allergies, and cannot take Just anything. For 3 days I asked repeatedly for simethicone. Not only did I never get it - when I was discharged, I never got it back. I'm home after an endoscopy looking for it in the bag they gave me, and nothing. They took other meds out of the container I had them in and blamed me for not knowing exactly how many of each medication I had when I got there...not the nurses who took my belongings without warning and without going through them with me first. (this was then lied about on my discharge notes) The drs did not know which way was up when I was in there- one was writing discharge orders while another is telling me my condition is critical and I can't leave without an infusion and then an endoscopy to try and get to the root of the problem so that I'm not in worse shape in a week. Nurses were condescending, rude, abrasive - on top of the disappearing medications. And doctors, other than 1 or 2, were entirely incompetent. Stay far far away. If I were across the street and my child needed a hospital I would medflight her to Boston before stepping foot in their doors. read more

I entered this hospital seeking medical care for chest pain. I was tortured by a nurse and I let her know I felt uncomfortable with her nursing care. She laughed at me and tried to put me in a psychotic room within the ER. My boyfriend told me we're leaving and going to another hospital. The guards tried to stop me from leaving and put bruises on my arms. I was not aggressive at all, I think it was the nurse's fault she concealed her name with stickers which is illegal it's our right to know who you are as you're dealing with my health. Under the Massachusetts law it explains and I am flabbergasted sturdy memorial doesn't comply with this law. Drove from Wareham to visit father in law, were stopped at the door and told visiting is 11-1 and 5-7, no exceptions. Rules changed. And only one person can visit per day, no switching off, only one. We ended up at Sturdy after a freak bacterial infection called ocular cellulitis. Honestly every nurse, aide and staff member that we met were so caring and helpful. We were admitted from the ER to a room and the nurse on duty was OUTSTANDING! Doug McCann deserves a gold medal. He went above and beyond on the care that he provided. Very pleasant, knowledgeable and personable. There was also a CNA, Hira N., she was also excellent. We cannot say enough good things about the team here at Sturdy. read more

My oldest son, was admitted as inpatient (Balfour unit) recently for detox treatment for 5 days. The nursing staff and his support team were caring and first rate throughout his stay. He felt that they really cared about his wellbeing unlike other clinical settings that he has been exposed to. I wouldn't even give them one star but unfourtunately to post this review i had to give them at least one. Sturdy is terrible do not go there, ever.. Not one person there knows how to be nice, or has any kind of bedside manner,from the nurses all the way up to the doctors. I understand that they are over worked and understaffed, however, that doesn't give them the right to treat people like they are dirt. My girlfriend sat there for six hours while having a stroke and only had a ct scan done when she really needed an MRI. That was told to us from the wonderful staff at st Anne's after we left sturdy memorial because of all of the terrible employees and complete lack of care. " Dr. A" as he calls himself, was a complete ass and even went as far as ignoring her and walked out of the room when she told him she would like to be transferred to St. Annes. She asked the nurse to go to the bathroom, she couldn't even walk straight due to her feet and legs being numb because of the stroke and pointed down the hall for her find it herself. They are the most uncaring and unprofessional medical facility i have ever been to. If you don't want to die don't go to sturdy, your life might well depend on it. read more

I called one day, a receptionist sounded like she was dying, she told me she "was having a hard day, the phones never stop ringing" ! Maybe she needs a different job. I had an X-ray of my chest in the emergency because I had been coughing for 2 wks. The report came back" chest X-ray was fine" I had fluid around my lungs & they couldn't see that? Even though I've been making monthly payments on the balance EVERY MONTH they still keep sending me letters and told me over the phone that it doesnt matter if I make payments that if I owe a balance past 120 days they can report to a collections and credit company!! Real be they should be ashamed of themselves and their policy. I am currently unemployed thx to the ridiculous vaccination mandate in MA. To try to punish someone who is legitimately making payments is selfish and wrong. I know the laws abd will be contacting a lawyer if need be. My husband was admitted to Sturdy this week for an unanticipated surgery and the care he received was the best he has had in his 74 years of life. From the pre-op nurse who shared reassurance and compassion to the anesthesiologist, Dr. Tabba who demonstrated remarkable thoroughness in reviewing my husband's medical history before proceeding, to the surgeon, Dr. Roodhouse who blended skillful competence with kindness, to the discharge nurses...every encounter was remarkable and caring. Came in as an 18 year old with shortness of breath and chest pain. Did multiple tests and imaging only to find out I had a Pulmonary Embolism stuck in my lung that was ready to break loose at any minute. It's unusual for someone my age to even have a Pulmonary Embolism. I'm glad they kept digging and didn't cross out any possibilities it could have been. My son, 8, with a complex disability was just assaulted by the security guard named Chad. My son was in an escalated state and pushed a heavy chair in front of the door. Without asking my son to move the chair, the guard screamed at my son to "knock it off" and then shoved the chair into him with a great amount of force. Had my son not jumped out of the way, the chair would have slammed into him and injured him. This "man" should be fired.
