Tight visitor parking but free!…read more I had no idea there were visiting hours! (Note: I would understand a nighttime cut off.) FYI: 10am-1pm, 4-7pm. Luckily when I entered to visit someone, it was 3:40. I did have to wait about 15 minutes in line to register with the lobby staff as a visitor. Standing in the line, we were next to the exit door that kept swinging open and getting hit with bursts of cold, January air! I have to say, this was a terrible system. Also, apparently kids under 13 can't visit. My 13 year old was with me and I would have been really upset if I found out after standing in line. This was not posted anywhere but apiece of paper handed to me at the check in station. There is a waiting area. Someone alerts you once it hits 4pm and you can then go and visit. I have to say, I disliked the process. It was clearly posted on the patients door that I needed PPE equipment to visit. The nurses station quickly set us up for success. KUDOS to Miriam. About a year ago at a nearby hospital this was the case with my father but nothing was posted and I found out AFTER I had already been visiting with him! The Nurse we had was well liked by our patient but I found her to be a know it all. Telling my daughter what her pathway to college should be. (Not nursing either.) She also didn't get the message we were visiting and just stood around and took up a lot of our patients time. Keep in mind, we offered to leave to let her do her duties but she rejected. It was mostly standing around and being a part of our time. Overall, our older family members really prefer Miriam. I did think the room was very clean and the floor we were on was quiet.

I left after 10 minutes because I saw I would be there probably 12 hrs. They wouldn't estimate my wait time. The nurse told me there's 8 different triage areas. But wouldn't tell me which one I was out in or how long I could be waiting for even though I asked. Just a rough estimate would have been fine. But nope. And there is ONE nurse triaging all the patients. That is insane. They all act like it's a big fkn party. There must have been 75 ppl in the waiting area and about 35 more in line. And they have ONE NURSE. AND SHE TOOK HER SWEET MERRY TIME. SLOW AS A TURTLE. The ER and hospital throughout is like a 3rd world country. Absolutely unacceptable. If it turns out that I have a heart attack or major heart issue, I am suing Miriam hospital. DO NOT GO HERE. GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE. They should be ashamed. I saw plenty of illegal immigrants in there for the sniffles. And those of us with major health concerns have to wait 12 hours. Get your shit together.

In a time where the whole world is suffering through a pandemic, it's always comforting to know…read morethat there is some place you can to and know you will get the best care possible. And that place just happens to be Roger Williams Medical Center. After literally being thrown out of Kent Hospital the night before where I had taken my son for help with Covid, I was at my wits end trying to find another facility to help my son. His oxygen level had dropped to 83 and I was sure he wasn't going to get better. I had checked Miriam, RI Hospital , Fatima and they were all filled. I was not going back to Kent, ( where I have always gone for the last 40 yrs), and started scouting the internet for other options. We found that Roger Williams Medical Center had beds so we headed right there. When we arrived, the nurses immediately took my son in and assessed his situation. They told us that they were admitting him as his oxygen level had significantly dropped to a dangerous level. Within less then 24 hrs, his Doctor, Dr Raimondo, told us that my son had a very bad case of Covid and he had so many Covid crystals in his lungs that he wasn't sure if he would make it! Upon hearing the news, my husband and I were devastated! My son had been informed of his prognosis 4 days later. He was scared! We were scared! I spoke to the nurses, many who were sick with Covid themselves but still came to work, and they assured us he was getting the best care possible. My son decided after a week and not knowing what would happen to him, he just wanted to be home with us and his doggies. We thanked the nurses and his doctor for their exceptional care, which we felt he would not have gotten anywhere else. Update: my son survived this ordeal remarkably. When he went for his first checkup, all the Covid crystals were gone! Dr Raimondo called my son his miracle child! Thank you Dr Raimondo and the entire medical staff at Roger Williams Medical Center!

As someone has created a Yelp page for this hospital, I thought that I had to put in my two cents…read moreabout Butler. Butler is a co-occurring psychiatric facility which means they offer psychiatric and substance use hospitalization, detox, and outpatient services. The grounds are gorgeous and the hospital has been around since the 1800s. It is located on the Butler campus off of Blackstone Blvd in the East Side of Providence. The Butler campus has many buildings including an assisted living facility and other businesses, but the hospital is in the very back of the campus, near the Seakonk River. I have experience with Butler both professionally and personally. I used to work at a mental health agency in RI and my clients always preferred Butler when in psychiatric crisis and in need of admission to a psych hospital. The staff do seem to care and appear to enjoy their jobs. They reach out to families, assist with discharge planning, and attempt to get clients to do some sort of step down program to assist them with after care. On a personal note, I've had a person I am close to that was hospitalized here a few times and for an outpatient hospital program. Again, the staff were very attentive and supportive of this person. They offer and encourage visiting by family and friends and do appear to genuinely care about the patients. These are locked units and visitors must follow strict rules and check in at the registration desk. The patients meet with their psychiatrist regularly, get vital signs read daily, and go to groups. Apparently the food is pretty good, according to both my clients and the individual I know personally. I've been in numerous hospitals' psych units as part of my previous job and of all of the ones I've seen, Butler has the most therapeutic style milieu I've witnessed in the state. It doesn't look like a dull, sterile (scary) hospital floor. It is open, bright, and calming. I can only imagine how scary it could be to be in a psychiatric facility (due to stigma and just not being able to go home when you want to) and Butler seems to have an atmosphere that is least hospital-esque. Staff are present to answer questions and aren't behind a huge glass wall, like in some of the other hospitals. They also allow patients who have been deemed safe to go outside to go on staff led walks, which I believe is very important to their well being. If you are person who is deal with mental health or substance use issues, Butler is what I would consider to be the top for-profit hospital in the area. They provide inpatient and detox services and also partial hospitalization programs that are specific to what patient's needs are. You can call the hospital in advance to arrival to check on beds, insurance info, and get on a waiting list if need be. it is important to be aware of the care that is out there for you and your loved ones who have these issues.
