With the exception of maybe one bad apple, all professors were clear and helpful in class and during office hours, as well as with internships and jobs. Everyone was receptive to both positive and constructive feedback. While I was on a satellite campus in Kip's Bay, I had access to some good and reasonably priced restaurants, and some nice parks, during study breaks. However, the building could have offered better internet access and more of a variety of snacks, however I still was able to get all of my work done prior to classes, as well as attend research presentations to network. Thanks for a great experience!

Last year and one before I read all of Standorf Encyclopedia of Philosophe (SEP). I ordered the book on Amazon and I've read it three times. One of my favorite parts of SEP is part on Aristotelian world of shadows in the cave. SO DRAMATIC! Tragedy aND COMEdy at once, a perfect word. Prof Cyrus teaches about politics. Who to vote for? You might wonder, Pof. knows! Democrat, neoliberal, marks, capital, angles, you will learn it all. HUMAN RIGHTS!? Forget em'. Only problem with this excellente prof. Is handwriting too small. Can't see tiny letters on the chalkboard, and even smaller when he writes on paper. Maybe because of his tiny hands? Hard to tell if its "o" or "a" a lot. Locker Up! And I'll see u in class 101!

Sharon Thomas, Director of the MAIA Education Resource Center was one of his first tutors. In addition to building his skill in decoding and writing, Sharon helped to build his confidence and restore self-esteem. She guided us through the process of applying to special education schools, and my son transferred to the Stephen Gaynor School to complete elementary and middle school. We called for advice when he wanted to attend Bay Ridge Prep in Brooklyn for high school. Now a senior majoring in biology at SUNY Geneseo, my son is shadowing a renowned orthopedic surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital this summer. Without Sharon's early intervention efforts and expertise, my son would not be competing with his peers on a level playing field for college studies, let alone graduate work. He will be taking MCATs this year. I have referred her to friends whose children had learning differences, and each reported being very satisfied with the guidance and insights she provided as Director of MAIA. Her genuine concern, coupled with her depth of experience is exactly what distressed parents need when they seek answers on how to effectively manage a child's learning disability. Many parents are in a state of denial, or hope to hear there is a quick-fix for the child's issues. In addition to gently and expertly nurturing my son's intellect, Sharon was able to teach me patience and give me confidence that her process and approach would work. When it comes to problem resolution, she can help if parents/guardians have enough faith and discipline to trust what she has to offer.

I went from knowing nothing about the NYC school system to having a strong understanding of the strengths of several schools and confident in my ability to choose the best one for our daughter. I went in with a preconceived idea of what I wanted - Sharon gave us her professional advice and provided us with information so we could make our own decision. Thanks to Sharon's wise council, I quickly realized my original idea was not the best for our daughter. Sharon is kind and gentle when addressing sensitive issues. She is knowledgable and very connected with the educational community which helped us get through to the right people. I would go back to her again and recommend her highly to anyone looking for help finding the right place for their child.

In addition to being really flexible with scheduling, (which was super convenient) he really helped me get exactly what I wanted out of the essays & portfolio. His fixes were spot on and really strengthened my work. They weren't just cosmetic either, we did a lot of restructuring to support the root themes of the stories and make them better. I truly cannot imagine a better experience or a more encouraging teacher. A lot of other writing teachers I've had in the past get an idea in their head of how to fix a piece and try to steamroll you into executing it, but Alex was exactly the opposite! My vision was heard and supported at every step. Alex really took the time to understand me and my pieces, and they were better for it. I credit the confidence with which I submitted my applications to Alex and look forward to working with him in the future once I finish my manuscript draft!
