The Pearl

My new favorite yoga studio in Tulsa. I love it here…read more I have been practicing yoga probably for 10 years. I wouldn't say I am a super good yogini or anything (still need to master the headstand and handstand!) but it is my favorite form of exercise and way to destress and stretch. I have gone to many different yoga classes and places over the years and have seen different styles and studios. Yoga has become so trendy and popular now and I think some places are now more of a yoga workout place and have forgotten the real aura of yoga and the breathing and calming down and all. Not that I don't like a good challenging workout, that is what I usually do! But Be Love incorporates a good workout with the breathing and calming aspect too. I have only been 4 times so far (the 9 am classes during the week) so I have not tried some of the soft yoga classes and other classes they have to offer. I have already joined-their drop in prices are better than most places in Tulsa to begin with and the monthly prices are really great, if you want to commit to unlimited. They have several options to choose from. One thing to try if you are new is their 2 weeks unlimited for $20, a great deal! To begin with, I love their atmosphere. They are at 6th and Peoria next to Phoenix Coffee (which I want to try!). Their place is warm and inviting. I love how when you walk in, it is an open room and the class is right there. They have a big garage door. It is fun to hear the street sounds. Someone said when the weather is nice they will open up the garage door. I think they have a very strong community, I am excited to see all what they do-they have a board with all kinds of fun things going on. Oh-they have an Intention for the Month-love that-July is New Beginnings, which totally resonates with me since my company I founded is based on the concept of new beginnings. The owners Joe and Margot are very sweet and so helpful. I love how they show different modifications to accommodate all kinds of people with varying practices. I love how it is so nonjudgmental-that is how yoga is supposed to be. One day last week I came flying in late (which I hate to do!) and I felt like a whirlwind coming in and then my feet were peeling everywhere (don't know if anyone noticed-I did the product Baby Feet a week ago-it is an exfoliant for your feet-awesome-the bad thing is you don't know when your feet will start peeling! So I felt like "Pigpen" from Charlie Brown. Ok maybe this is TMI!) Anyway no one scolded me for being late (some workout places shame you! Happened to my friend at a different place!), just met me with love and I don't think anyone noticed my peeling feet. That's another thing I love about yoga, is it is not a competition! Anyway, their classes are really great and everyone is really inviting and friendly. They are opening another studio in Broken Arrow in September so that will be great for everyone out south!

First time in with my friend and we giggled 2 minutes into the session. The instructor said…read moresomething to us which is fine, use your words. But he then proceeded to snap his fingers and point as if we were some dogs needing to be reeled in. It was entirely not that serious. Was super unwelcoming experience; for your first time you would think they would want you to have a good experience. But treating people with such disrespect and being demeaning is entirely not the way to go. I was super disappointed the entire rest of the time there and honestly uncomfortable.

The heat helps loosen your muscles, leaves you feeling refreshed, and adds an extra layer of challenge to the workout. I do miss it, though I'm at a different gym for the time being. One of the things I loved most about Hotworx is the convenience--you simply book your session through the app, head to your private sauna room, set the temperature to your preference, and follow the workout displayed on the screen. I usually went early in the morning since I often had the room to myself. The studio is open 24/7, and while staff have set business hours, you can always access the building with your phone. Occasionally, they even provided essential oils to enhance the atmosphere, which was such a nice touch. Before entering the sauna, you'll need their special yoga mat (shoes stay outside), and there are cubbies to store your belongings. Beyond the saunas, there's also a weight room so you can round out your training with strength exercises. The location is well-equipped with showers and a separate bathroom, making it easy to work out and freshen up without rushing home. The staff and members were always welcoming, which gave the studio a real sense of community. They also host workshops on proper technique as well as fun social events like block parties. I loved being a part of it and hope to return when it fits my budget again. If you've ever been curious, I highly recommend giving Hotworx a try. They usually offer your first session free, and they'll even provide the mat so you can experience the workout the way it's meant to be.
