My absolute favorite attraction at USH! As a pass holder, I will admit there have been days where I go to Universal just to sit on the tram and eat a pretzel. Typically running about 45 minutes to an hour, the studio tour is a perfect break from escalators, lines, and walking around Universal. The guides are funny and engaging and though they usually touch on the same things, I find that each guide has a way of making the tour their own. I always enjoy going through the lot and getting a glimpse of what's being filmed, while also learning about the iconic movies, shows, and even music videos that have utilized the lot before. As a huge fan of Desperate Housewives, my favorite set is Colonial Street. While I'd love to see some updates or new things on the studio tour, having been on it more times than I can count I can still say it's my favorite ride and the thing I look forward to the most at USH. read more

The perfect attraction to give parents a break from being on their feet on all day. This ride is almost an hour and offers a sneaky peek at the movie sets, props, and little Hollywood History. They're aren't many updates to this ride that I noticed. You still the psycho scare, a look at the faux NYC filming backdrops, and or course Jaws. Which warms my cold nostalgic heart. I really enjoyed the 4-D King Kong adventure in the beginning, but I really missed the giant animatronic King Kong that I remember seeing as a kid. Make sure to sit in the second or third tram car. We were placed in the first tram car and basically missed everything from the flood to Bruce the shark jumping out of the water. My wife and I enjoyed the ride, but our kids (5 & 7) were over it after about 20-minutes. Shout out to our tour guide for all of the knowledge and fun behind scenes anecdotes. read more

I used to love this tour but a lot of it's fun elements are missing now. 3d has been taken away from King Kong. A lot of fun guest interactions are stale now. We expect everything and there are no surprises. We always see Norman at the Bates Motel, but Whoville is no more. No more Parting of the Red Sea or broken bridge, but we have Nope Set. That got old real quick. Nope is confusing to the casual rider who has not seen the movie. The War of the World set is magnificent but I would rather have Jurassic section back. I think overall, I am missing quirkiness of days gone by. I hope they up the ante soon with new additions to keep it fresh. read more

I feel like this changed everything i come. There was no more fast and furious, the bridge, and probably some more stuff. King kong also changed compared to last time. The Artist Formerly Known as the Backlot Tour is now The Studio Tour and one of my favorite things to do at Universal Studios. It's a long tram ride but also does include some fun elements and also a 4D section! When I say long, it's 60 minutes. For theme parks, that's long but I think it's an entertaining hour and I love seeing behind the scenes. Seeing how things work is my jam so I really enjoy all the production you can see while on the tour. Unlike their Orlando location (which hasn't even had a tour since 1995), Universal Studios Hollywood is still a working studio so you will see various shows being filmed (A Happy Place is one), commercials and all sorts of other things are filmed here too. You get to see things and scenes from some of your favorite movies and TV shows, as well. One of the exciting things is Jupiter's Claim set from Jordan Pelle's NOPE! You used to be able to get off the tram here for pics but now they just roll through. You'll also experience a flash flood, an earthquake, Norman Bates may attack from the Psycho House, King Kong 360, the classic Jaws scene and all with Jimmy Fallon guiding you through it. There was a Fast and Furious section but that is now gone. I'm curious if they'll bring it back and it's just a break as the F&F Rollercoaster is being built or if it won't come back for that same reason. There is also an actual guide who adds fun quips and stories. Would you believe this opened in 1915 but back then people just sat in bleachers. The real version opened in 1964 with the trams but that is still incredibly impressive. I love this ride and if you have an hour to spare, I hope you do too~! read more

I've done this backlot tour so many times. It is always a blast! Getting to see the different sets of shows and movies is awesome. The Psycho House has been part of the studio tour for yearssssssss! I always love standing in front of it and getting a photo! Sometimes there will be someone there dressed up, holding a knife- for photos of course. You will also find The Bates Motel set; although I don't think it is the original one. Still pretty cool to see! Make time for this one! The lines do get line. Worth the wait! read more

This has always been my favorite ride even as a kid. We used to go to the parks frequently since we always had family visiting and this was the go to park to take them. This ride will always be close to my heart. Love seeing the subtle and sometimes drastic changes over the years. Some of the ones I miss are the bridge drop and water parting. While iconic, it certainly is dated. It's always the same unfunny, outdated video of Jimmy Fallon welcoming you to the tour. The same stops with the same information. The same dilapidated sets used in The Good Place and War of the World. Paint is chipped, signs broke , props faded from the sun. I go on the tour hoping to see Wisteria Lane every time, and every time I'm sadly disappointed. The Nope set is cool, but would be better if they got live actors to come out dressed as the aliens, the same way they do with Norman Bates. I always celebrate when we don't go to Fast and the Furious Supercharged. It's so cheesy and lame. The acting is horrible and it's so boring. Universal seriously needs to let that franchise rest. read more

Wow! It has been almost 7 years since I last rode the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood! Where has the time gone? My husband and I took a trip out to LA. During our trip, we visited Universal Studios Hollywood on a Thursday. Our early access ticket to Super Nintendo World provided us with an express pass onto Studio Tour before 11:00 A.M. We had arrived around 10:45 a.m., but there was no wait line, so we didn't need to use the express pass. Studio Tour is located right next to the Simpson's area. You'll need to go down and escalator to ride the Studio Tour ride. Make sure you come prepared as this ride is a hour long! You can bring snacks on it though! Unfortunately both video screens flickered the entire time, and we couldn't hear the tour guide! She did try to restart the system a few times, but with no luck, most of the video screens kept cutting in and out the entire ride. Some of the feature sets you'll see on this ride include the following Jaw-Dropping Sights - A reenactment of Amity Islands. Jupiter's Claim set from Jordan Peele's Horror Epic, NOPE. This is a new attraction and if you've seen the movie NOPE, it looks exactly like Jupiter's Claim from the movie! King Kong 360 3-D. This is a pretty cool experience which does require the 3D glasses. You may get wet a little bit during this part! It's the exact same ride as the one in Universal Studios Florida, except a lot shorter! Fast & Furious - Supercharged - Another 3D experience which will require the 3D glasses. This is just like the one in Universal Studios Florida as well, but again, a lot shorter. I really enjoyed seeing all of the classic cars and some of the studio exhibits that the Studio Tour drove by! It was great to sit and take a break from walking around, I just wished that the TVs were working! read more

I'm not really a universal studios person, and I really hate simulators, but this ride was awesome and I think it is a must do if you have never been. I thought I was safe with the Studio Tour. I thought I could sit and enjoy a tour around the backlots without worrying about wanting to throw up during a ride. Alas, I was wrong when I saw we had to pick up 3D glasses. I haven't been on the Studio Tour for a while so I still have fond memories of the simulation of the earthquake, King Kong, and lots of fire and water as well as the parting of the red sea plus the bridge collapsing. Sadly all that was gone. They do still have Jaws, Bates Motel, City Hall for Back to the Future as well as War of the World set. They do also have new sets specifically from Nope as well as new cars. Now onto what I couldn't handle...the 3D stuff. They have 3D screen stages which you get to put on 3D glasses see a fight with King Kong, become Fast and Furious, and...well all the simulation and stimulation cannot be handled by this very tired no sleep person who gets really nauseated when in this state. Perhaps in a different situation, I would've been quite enthused, but one ride after another that's 3D with a lot of jarring motion just....I was kind of tired of it. But it was very impressive, just wished I didn't have to try to hold down my stomach. The other let down was they were hyping up this full set of Jupiter Town from Nope and I was hoping for something more impressive when there was this eerie music and the air people stopped blowing but that was it....just a sound byte and it was done. It was kind of a let down. It was also a very quiet tour considering due to the strike so the backlot was just dead. But our tour guide was quite good. I think in a different health state, this would've been a different ride for me. And I understand they're trying to appeal to the newer audience, but it would've been nice to find a ride where I just sat and just enjoyed the view. read more

The studio tour is probably the best thing at Universal Studios Hollywood. I remember as a kid coming on the tram tour and being very excited. And after all these years, this is something I look forward to here at the park. There have been a couple of tweaks but some old favorites are still there. What's cool is that a lot of the film props and sets have been in TV shows and movies that we don't really notice or are very iconic. The tour is about one hour long. And there's tons of signs warning you to be sure to go to the restroom if you need to. Be sure to download the theme park app to find out the wait times. Of for all of this is a constantly moving ride so the wait time shouldn't be too long relatively speaking to the other rides in the park. Some highlights are the jaws sat, and the Earthquake set is very cool. There's also a good amount of those 3-D section such as the King Kong and the fast and furious sets. I tend to be more of a fan of the practical sites and it's great to be able to get a peek behind the curtain. This very much a must do attraction every visit for me. For a first time visit, I say it's a must. If you've been here before, meh can skip... I feel like this ride line is always long. It's not a bad ride honestly because you get a lot of ride entertainment and engagement as well as duration. Quality and quantity, 10/10. Only reason I say can skip is because I honestly don't feel like it changes up often. Sure if you've ridden other rides before you know what to expect, but most of the other rides have a higher thrill factor IMO. We were lucky on our most recent visit since it was an anniversary. There were more characters on sets and they set up photo ops to hop off and take advantage for as long as you needed, then hop on another tram to continue. My first visit was in my adolescent years, brought our kids for their first time in 2018, we skipped this ride for their next visit, and finally just said wth let's do it this past yr. In all those visits I didn't feel like we missed out on anything major. But to each their own. I will say this really is a nice ride to this park, especially since the Universal Studio Japan doesn't have a tram ride. Hoping some time in the future we'll be able to get our kids to the park in Orlando to check out their studio tour! read more

The Universal Studios Backlot Tour experience relies 100% on which tour guide you get. While we were waiting for our tour to start, we saw one tour guide who was full of life and already getting into the fun experience with random people waiting to begin, and then another that was on her phone, chewing gum in the corner, and didn't appear to have any interest in the tour she was about to lead. Guess which one we got? LOL My husband and I are huge film nerds, so we were extra excited to do this tour finally. I will say it was a bit of a letdown having a semi-dud of a tour guide, but we did still get to see a lot of cool movie things anyway, and look them up on our phones as we went (there was very little commentary as we passed things). One instance of this was when we were driven down a little pathway through trees and brush, and only as we were leaving, our tour guide told us "Oh by the way, that was the spot with the T-Rex chase in Jurassic Park." (The "Must go faster" scene) My husband was not happy that we learned this only after we had left that area so politely asked our guide to turn back and circle it again. But on to the good things we saw! We passed through some roads and town squares that have been used in countless movies and TV shows. Some are super recognizable and others you have to look pretty hard to remember how you recognize them (from which show/movie). Some of our favorite things we saw were Courthouse Square (from Back to the Future), the Psycho House/Bates Motel, the beach from Jaws, the plane crash wreckage from War of the Worlds, and a bunch of Jurassic Park scenes and props. They also had an exhibit of cars from the Jurassic Park and Back to the Future films. There are also a few fun things that "happen" while you pass by, like a dinosaur spraying you with water while you pass the Jurassic Park section, King Kong randomly grabbing you and shaking the tram while you pass by him (with your 3D glasses), joining a car chase with the Fast & Furious gang (also a 3D effect), and a shark jumping out of the water as you pass by the Jaws beach. I would say, if you're a movie buff and want to see the Universal Backlot, definitely spring for this tour. Just don't assume every single tour guide will be as enthusiastic as you about the tour they are leading! read more

Technically this isn't your fast roller coaster fun ride, but it's one of my favorite rides in this park. Mostly because if the Jaws shark. I also like the commentary on the film lot and the photo opportunities. Here's your chance to be a part of the movie magic by touring sets or interacting with Norman Bates. They have the new Nope set with the giant inflatable cowboy that makes me laugh too. The only thing that would make this better is new attractions to replace the old ones (like King Kong is older) and like the same buildings from when I was a kid are still there. Would love some modern buildings and maybe some more new information instead of hearing about Alfred Hitchcocks trailer and the Back To The Future clock tower again. A great place to eat and drink (yeah they allow food and drinks!) And get out of the rain or sun for an hour and just rest those tired feet! read more

man I love Universal Studios, I really do, this ride is just a sweet look behind the curtain that makes the park visit that much better. Seeing old sets used in movies and shows you have seen, maybe even loved, it is pretty damn cool. You get a peek at what makes up these houses, storefronts "CLOCKTOWERS" and psychoticly operated motels, well worth and cinephiles time. Seeing how movie magic floods a city, puts a perspective of distance on the creepy awesome old house and the roadside motel, gives you an up close look at a vertigo inducing tunnel once ran through by a guy with bionic legs, as cruise around an island once inhabited by a giant ape, driving through a massive plane crash or (best of all) a look at Bruce. My gripe, some chucklehead studio exec decided to scrap the ORCA instead of preserving this piece of cinematic history that needs to have been kept in the lagoon with the shark. Seriously, that guy has no sense of worth. Not sure if they still allow you to be dropped off at the back end and walk back to the drink during the Halloween Horror Nights but that was always a cool experience also. Love this tour, now if only they would ditch Jimmy Kimmel and get Conan O'Brien to do the narrating..... read more

This ride is still the best at Universal Studios which is at the same time sort of sad because it speaks volumes to the low quality of rides here. This ride while it's iconic, needs more added to it and could use an update too, such as remove the Fast and Furious segment and replace it with something way better lol. read more

Our tour guide was energetics, fun and funny. Smade the universal studio tour enjoyable and entertaining. Along with a few of her co-workers like Jaws the shark, Norman Bates from psycho and a holographic version of the cast from the fast and furious franchise. We drove through Hollywood blockbuster sets from Steven Spielberg's "War of the World" and "Jaws", Jordan Peeles "Nope" and several others. My hands-down favorite was the Bates Motel from Alfred Hitchcock "Psycho". I definitely recommend checking it out. It's a real treat for adults, kids and movie buffs alike. read more

Definitely a must attraction when visiting Universal Studios. There is never a long wait as the buses run frequently so the lines move quickly even when there's a long line. We like sitting in the last section because sometimes Norman Bates gets very up close and my oldest gets a kick out of it. read more

Definite MUST when you visit Universal Studios! I'm not super into lots of Western movies or normie TV shows and neither was my partner, but we had a great time! PRO-TIP: The tram DOES NOT stop and it lasts anywhere from 40 minutes - 1 hour. Make sure you use the rest room beforehand ! It took around 15 minutes before we were able to board the tram, but along the way there's an intro with Jimmy Fallon, Alfred Hitchcock, and other neat clips from Universal films. Honestly, I feel like the people who sat closest to the exit of the tram got to see more of the cool stuff, but that might be due to the route and driver that took us on that day. Our guide, Kamille (sp?), was very sweet and energetic, but there were times when she stumbled on her words and kinda flubbed up but no big deal! The tour takes you behind the stage, teaches you about the history and how they do filming and special effects with some things actually being filmed as we were going through, and the tram is also a ride! Very cool! I don't know much about the sets used for lots of the movies and shows, but regardless it was super neat to look at. My favorite parts were the Bates Motel and the Jaws area. There's a part where you use 3D glasses as the tram transforms into a ride and you watch the screen around you. This was for Kong Skull Island and for Fast & Furious. It is actually a bit intense, so that was unexpected and fun! If you get car sick/motion sick very easily, keep this in mind. Favorite comment we made during the ride was the earthquake experience. Quite on the set, please. If you have an hour plus to kill, or just want to take a ride around the filming stages this is for you. If you need a bathroom break, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. You are packed like a can of sardines from the start of waiting in line to ride the trolly all the way to when you get off the trolly. The good thing is the trolly seats are comfortable. It's a famous ride, that I've taken before and it a pleasure to just sight see. Way better then just riding in a bus visiting famous people's homes. They never answer the door. You go by various sets from famous movie scenes, to a row of familiar vehicles, and some motion/action sets. All this time there's a narrator explaining the various area. Be advised if there's filming in the area, silence is observed. So you can go by a stage and have no clue what it is because you're traveling in a hush hush zone. Overall four stars. The tour comes with entrance to the park, which overall we enjoyed. But the studio tour, which we had really been looking forward to, was awful, for an unexpected reason. The first of the four cars in each tour tram has a diesel engine, and pulls the rest of the cars. The exhaust pipe is at head height. So if you're in the second car, you have diesel fumes venting directly into your face. I think it might be a pretty cool tour, but it was hard to say, what with being poisoned the whole time. It was also loud as heck, so hard to hear the guide. Universal, get with the times and electrify this thing. read more

You go back stage of real movies sets sometimes being filmed that year. They have mini rides showing off the effects like rain, flooding, fire, and other movies like as if dinosaurs are attack or racing in fast and the furious. The tram guide will tell corny jokes. Jimmy Fallon hosts through a recorded video as well. It's a whole movie loving experience. It is okay for kids if they understand it's not real so I would say 5 and up because it could be scary for younger kids. Last month, my brother, sister, cousin, and I went on a Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood. We take the whole tram ride to take the tour just like going on safari at the zoo. It is about the history of movies from Universal. We stop by the Metropolitan City, Jurassic Park, Jaws Lake, and the Old Town in Mexico while it is flooded. The Studio Tour is a definite must ride when you're at Universal Studios. This is a one of a guide tour experience that you won't find anywhere int the world. You ride in a tram on the Studio Tour so we usually plan this towards the end of our day when we need a break from running around all day. You have a tram guide who guides you through all the sets and attractions for a personal touch. They also play videos on the tram monitor of directors and actors who talk about making films as well as movie scenes from the sets you'll visit on the tram. Sometimes they're actually filming movies during the tour so there's quiet sections you drive through where the guide stops speaking briefly. Movie sets included: Back to the Future Hill Valley Clock Tower, Streets of NYC, Psycho House and Bates motel, Grinch Set, Crashed 747 set from War of the Worlds (my favorite), Wisteria Lane Desperate housewives. The interactive outdoor movie sets were Jaws and the Mexican Village Flash Flood. The artificial rain and flash flood is pretty cool to see happen right before your eyes. Movie props you'll see: Famous movie cars and lots of vehicles and equipment used in Jurassic Park. The enclosed movie set experiences were King Kong, San Francisco Earthquake and the Fast and the Furious Experience. King Kong and the Fast and the Furious are in 3D and they turn the tram into a motion sensor ride. Great stuff. Universal Studios has been making films on the Studio Tour for decades and you can feel the history. This was a movie studio first, and they built the rides an attractions around it. When you see all the sets, it's much smaller and dazzling in person which makes me appreciate the film makers skillset much more. You'll recognize a lot of the sets from movies you've seen through the years which I always found fascinating. Best studio tour we went on it Hollywood (tried warner bros). Loved the interactive parts and the CGI parts like fast & furious + Jurassic park. Enjoyed the special effects and famous cars! It is definitely worth it. Highly recommend. Good for whole family plus available in several languages and accessible. All sets were from recognisable movies. Jimmy fallon can be cut -- his cameo added little extra. Overall, really enjoyed it (wasn't expecting too). Like how they skillfully wove their movie history into tour & sets shown. read more
