I had a blunt haircut done here and it was uneven. I went back and she made it worse. On top of that, I have red hair color and every time I went back, my hair was getting DARKER & DARKER. I came in for a trim. I left with an amazing layered cut, first time conditioning treatment( obsessssed) and probably the best feeling I've had about my hair in a long time. Nikki is absolutely attentive, knows her products, and listens to all concerns. Nikki answers with confidence and has superb knowledge about her career as a stylist& cosmetologist. No. Just no. I've made two attempts, the first experience was for simple subtle highlights, to which the girl fried my hair and turned it white. The second attempt was with a recommended stylist, however, I got turned away because I had a 9 year old child with me. Not interested in being a patron to a place that makes moms feel like sub class citizens. I had to schedule 6 weeks out and put down a $300 deposit, the hours of availability are super limited and I'm forever juggling a full time career and a kid. If she was a baby or a toddler I would totally get it, but a 9 year old? Really? Obviously too pretentious for me! By the way, I have been to plenty of upscale salons in the city that have never taken issue with a child in tow and have gone above and beyond to make her feel comfortable. read more

Very overpriced and snooty salon. The receptionists are not friendly. Go here if you want to be judged by girls that clearly peaked in high school. I've had services done here a few times over the years and the result is hit or miss. Every time I like a stylist they progress to a higher level and the prices for the same services increase, most of them end up leaving the salon anyways. Spending over $200 on a haircut is absurd when there are other salons that will do better for less. I wish I could leave a better review but I don't think I will ever return. read more

I don't normally write negative reviews; however, people need to be made aware before they waste their TIME & MONEY! I got my hair done on June 5th, 2021 by Brittney Underwood. I asked for my hair to be highlighted, cut, and my extensions to be moved up. As Brittney was removing my hair extensions, she was very aggressive and ripping my hair out; Yes, I have naturally curly hair, but I have had extensions for over 8 years (placed by other hair stylists at different salons) and NEVER experienced this! After Brittney got the extensions out, my hair was half-a** & quickly highlighted. When it was time to put my extensions back in, I asked Brittney if NEW lighter extensions ($$$) would blend well with my hair. She brought the lighter extensions over and held them up against my hair and told me they would blend really well; therefore, I purchased new hair ($$$$$). When I left the salon I thought my hair looked good until the following day when I started styling my own hair. As I was styling my hair, I noticed a MAJOR difference in color and tried to style it , to hide the dark line that distinguished my natural hair from the extensions (SEE ATTACHED PICTURES). I had scheduled a blow dry the following week at studio RK- as Brittney said this would help with my hair not getting so tangled around my extensions; figured I would kill two birds with one stone. During the blow dry I showed Brittney's coworker the obvious distinction. The next day, I reached out to Brittney via text message to talk with her about my hair. Brittney asked me to bring in the old darker extensions, so she could color them to match my current hair color. That day I brought the extensions in. Four days later, Brittney contacts me and tells me I brought my other extensions which were placed a while back. I found the right extensions shortly after and recontacted her. Brittney NEVER told me to bring them back in to fix my hair. Another week went by and I came to studio RK to get a blow dry and style. A coworker was working on my hair and she pointed out the discoloration. Brittney was working that day and totally tried to AVOID me. it wasn't until this girl brought her physically over to evaluate my hair that she FINALLY looked at it. Today (almost 7 weeks later), I reached out to Brittney to see when she would be available to fix my hair. She asked me, "what are you looking to get done?" The appropriate response would have been: "I'm so sorry, I totally forgot about fixing your hair, we have been really busy here in the salon, let me check my schedule to see when I can get you in ASAP!" Instead, I got the run around about when she would be available. "The salon is closing early on Friday and Saturday for a work event", etc... Also, she repeatedly asked me "what would you like to do?" Clearly, my hair needs to be fixed! This is unacceptable! Brittney's last message : "I'm not really sure how you talk to people in your every day life... but you are completely disrespectful!! I will no longer be doing your hair . A owner will be reaching out tomorrow!" I guess your feelings got hurt because I told you "my hair looked bad" and "I don't normally walk around looking like this"? I could understand if I cursed at you, didn't give you 20% tips, and was ALWAYS RESPECTFUL- but this isn't the case! Bottom line, I paid A LOT OF MONEY FOR MY HAIR AND IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ANY LESS THAN PERFECT! I mean thousands of dollars! ******Maybe you need to learn some professionalism, understanding, respect and be more competent in your profession?**** In my profession (I am a nurse with an MBA & MSN), competency, professionalism, good communication are a MUST! To date, I still have not heard anything from the owner.! Guess you don't care about bad business and unprofessional staff at your salon. I really don't like writing poor reviews so this has taken me a while to get around to, but if it can help someone else avoid what I went through then I hope this is helpful. I went to Studio RK wanting a significant change and to go blonde. I booked an appt with Alicia, who I was told specializes in blonding. The first 2 pictures attached are my hair that morning before I went in because I wanted to see for myself a before and after. The 2 pictures after that, are what I received. My hair legitimately looks DARKER even though I went to Alicia for a full head of highlights and specifically told her I wanted to go blonde. I paid $450 for my hair to look darker and literally none of my friends and family even noticed that I did anything to my hair. I should have trusted my gut from the beginning because Alicia was unfriendly and not communicative the entire time, I tried to make conversation with her and she would reply with one word. It was also a red flag that you have to sign something in advance like a contract, agreeing to pay the price they quote you, before you even see the results. Overall, I was just extremely sad and disappointed after paying nearly $500 to go lighter and walking out with a mediocre haircut and my hair looking darker than when I walked in. When I emailed RK about my experience, they offered for me to come back to Alicia for a "few more foils" which I initially accepted but then cancelled because I would rather shave my head bald than go back to Alicia, who was extremely unfriendly and I guess decided to do her own thing with my hair and not do anything I asked for. When I emailed them back asking for a partial refund instead, they never responded to me. So essentially my terrible and expensive salon visit went unresolved. Between my disappointing experience and the subsequent lack of customer service, I strongly recommend that you go elsewhere or perhaps a different stylist there is better. read more

If you are looking for a bridal hairstylist, Lindsay is the best of the best. She took our suggestions and used her vast experience and talent to mold our vision into the perfect wedding-day hair. She also has a very calming personality. We experienced an emergency the night before the wedding and got very little sleep. She was attentive, sweet, and really felt like a friend. Studio RK Salon had an overall great environment. Upon entering, we were offered coffee, wine, beer, water, etc. The facilities were clean. And the final product was worth every penny of the price. I moved to FL from Chicago and saw awesome reviews for Studio RK so I booked a hair cut/color. They don't tell you when you call that their stylists/colorists have levels of experience and that they don't all have beauty school degrees. Without my knowledge of this I was just given a #4 stylist/colorist (without any beauty school training she was just trained at Studio RK). Had I known their level system I would have chosen a level #10 not a #4. Below is what I asked for and what I received. I repeated many times I wanted my hair a darker brown with chunky blonde highlights like the picture & she insisted she understood but all she did was weave a color into my hair no chunky highlights and no darker base) After 3+ hours what I received was NOTHING like the picture (the woman said it would look just like the picture but obviously her lack of training and knowledge on hair color is close to nil). She also NEVER even tried or attempted to remove the dye from my face I took these pictures at home and it took me 20 minutes rubbing alcohol on my face to get the dye off. How embarrassing that people saw my face like that! I emailed the salon and the manager said that someone else would redo my hair but the new person canceled at the last minute. Really unprofessional and horrible experience I don't know how they have so many great reviews. I hated to write this review because the girl was so nice. Loved this hair saloon from the minute I stepped inside. This might be a covid precaution, but I love that they are running so smoothly and on time with their clients. I checked-in while still in my car and waited until I received a confirmation text saying to go in. I was greeted by my stylist by the door and sat right away. They started charging for services I did not receive, if you dispute the bill they will attempt to threaten you and or try to embarrass you. BE PREPARED FOR UNEXPECTED ADDITIONAL CHARGES - for sure a Bait and Switch!! I truly hope this review prevents someone for making the same mistake I did.. I walked out of there feeling completely TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. The quote when I called in versus when I arrived had an EXTREME difference. I did not need corrective color just a few extra high and lowlights due to Covid, I made the mistake of not walking out when my stylist showed me the estimate (that you have to sign.. hmmmm I wonder why they have to do this) but how embarrassing would that have been? Had I known ahead of time that they practiced this type of business, I never would have made the appointment. My stylist was fine, but it was obvious she had a directive. This salon has a tier model so obviously they want to meet criteria to move up the ladder so be prepared for a spiel and suggestions for additional services. If you don't mind being surprised with additional charges and paying close to $80 over what you are quoted upon calling in, this salon is fine. However, I don't want to be nickeled and dimed and pressured to purchase additional services or products. I want to know what to expect and enjoy my time with my stylist. UNEXPECTED CHARGES- I have a little longer than shoulder length hair $40 for EXTRA Bleach/color (I have NEVER even heard of this charge elsewhere - also price sheet states $20) How could shoulder length hair even require $40 worth of extra color or bleach for high and lowlights. $20 for toner (I have NEVER paid for toner at any other salon) Regular Charges $140 for roots, high and lowlights (This is the highest price listed for highlights so why is there a $40 charge for extra color/bleach) $54 cut (about average) I do not at all mind paying for good services, but I felt deceived. My hair was fine, but for the money I shouldn't have walked out with color all over my neck and some on the sides of my face. IF you really want to go to this salon, make an appt for a consultation and then make the actual appt after you have the cost in writing so you aren't put on the spot and put extra money for nothing. UPDATE AFTER SALON RESPONSE When one gets roots and high and low lights done there are typically 3 color formulas, if you go over that, you are often times charged the higher price within the range listed on the price sheet which I was charged anyhow..$140 What I am asking is why is there a range if that is not really the true range? The salon stated she had to use 5 color formulations which is an untrue statement (my word against hers they have me here) Additionally, I am older and would beg to differ on my the thickness of my hair (once again this relative and is how the salon is trying to justify how they add in extra charges). Also, the only box color I used was on my roots, so how did my hair have box color on the ends? Last, this had absolutely nothing to with a desired budget, the salon response was taking a dig here and avoiding the issue. I certainly didn't appreciate this comment as the salon is unaware of my financial situation, but if you read the majority of their responses to negative reviews it is always the client's fault which is unusual as most businesses attempt to reconcile issues not place blame on the client. My review simply suggested making a consultation appt first so you were truly aware of the cost and not put on the spot. In reading most of the reviews online and on Next-door, they have it worked out so the average cost of color, cut and highlights is $250 due to their $20 off coupon. I have been going to RK Salon for just about six years. I I have always had good things to say about The Salon until this week. Miranda, who does my hair talked me into hair extensions because my hair has been melting off from bleach processing. The extensions she put in clearly were not the right type of extensions for my hair. It ripped out sections of my own hair leaving me with gaping holes. I called to let her know this, and she canceled me as a customer. I have never had this happen to me in all 52 years of my life. Having an appointment six days later to get my hair colored and her canceling that appointment before the holidays is truly one of the most unprofessional things I have ever encountered. I've been in the same industry, doing makeup and nails, and I have never ever questioned anyone about a service they didn't like. Nor would I ever cancel a customer right before an appointment they had made without giving them plenty of notice to find an alternative . I have been using Studio RK for 5 years but have decided to try other salons. The stylist must have used a chemical in the hair dye causing my hair to fall out. My hair lost its silky softness and became like straw and difficult to manage. Living up north, I had people specially trained that did hair color only. Here, the stylist wore many hats and professed knowledge of hair color. I asked for my hair to be highlighted and my hair was made to look too blond. I have medium brown hair and have medium complexion with slight olive tone. I asked for less highlights the last time and walked out with no difference. My request was not addressed. I also asked for my hair to be layered but when I went to another stylist, I was told that my hair was not layered. The several hundred dollar charge for a cut,blow dry, and conditioning was outrageous. I had been a loyal customer to studio RK since I moved to Florida in 2022, in the past I never had any real issues. Although the prices were always very high, I never had an issue paying because I liked the result. The last time I went I left extremely unhappy as my stylist had brought my hair darker than I had expected (I am traditionally a fake blonde). I expressed my discomfort in the chair and was assured it would "wash out" or grow on me. A couple days later - and many washes later - I reached out to the stylist to let her know I still was unhappy and wanted to get closer to the color I had asked for. She was extremely combative over text, insisted she did nothing wrong, and asked for me to pay an additional $100 to come in to get it fixed. As I had already nearly paid $400 including tip this was not a viable option. I felt that after paying so much money I should have left the salon happy. I have not gone back since as I believe stylists should take accountability for their work regardless of the outcome, and I hope by sharing my experience someone can maybe make a decision that will save them hundreds of dollars. read more

My one and only experience was as part of a bridal party in a destination wedding and I can't say enough good things about it. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly and our hair/make-up turned out amazing. Only quirky thing that I found was that the bride had to pre-pay for all of our services before we arrived. Maybe it's because they deal with a lot of weddings that might cancel, but it was kind of awkward for the bride to have to deal with on top of everything else. I could NOT be happier with my experience here. I put in an appointment request online on a Tuesday evening, got a call on a Wednesday afternoon and was able to make a same day appointment for a corrective color and haircut later that day. Awesome! I walked into the salon and was immediately warmly greeted and offered a selection of beverages. A few minutes later Amelia came by and got me and was very thorough in her consultation with me and going over my "hair history" and what I wanted. She clearly knows what she's doing and was very realistic with me on how to get the look I was going for based on the last colorist who I fired based on the botch job I got. We chatted while she applied some base demi permanent color and some balayage highlight and then let it sit. In between, she started another client's color. I got a shine glaze and washed out by her assistant and then blown out. After she came back over while the other girl was processing (the tandem worked very well) to cut my hair. I could not have been happier with my results. She took before and after pictures and the salon has a pretty good pinterest account which is what convinced me I could get the results I was after. This is not an inexpensive salon by any means but you get what you pay for. I got $20 off being a new client, but the color results were perfection of what I asked for-and "pinterest perfect". No supercuts styles here, my cut was flawless too. I ended up buying a hair mask but nobody was pushing a hard sell on products. There is a HUGE selection of different brands of professional stuff so there is clearly no brand bias there. I'll definitely come back here-ask for Amelia-she was amazing. read more

I came in for a first time cut. I was met by a girl who walked me back to the shampoo bowls and said she would be washing my hair, but not cutting it. She tried cross selling me a conditioning product while washing me but could not tell me it was something I needed. ($25 to $35). She sat me at a station and said she would get my stylist. Stylist came over, did not look at my hair asked if I just wanted a trim, I told her what I wanted, and she did the cut with little communication took her about 20 min to cut my hair. She never really took a look at me, felt my hair, asked for pictures.. it felt very rushed and insincere. All and all the cut was mediocre for the cost. $60 with a $20 discount for new clients. I told her they way she's brushing hurts and no hair dresser has ever brushed all my curls out before shampooing. She never apologized and had a very cold personality. Overall I like this salon and have been going there for a while. I love my highlights and color, almost every time. I have to add I switched stylists because I felt I was paying more and getting fewer highlights, and communication was not there the last time as to what I wanted. Could have been a bad day for both of us, but the color was dripping all over and it was burning my head, and she didn't listen to what I asked for, so I switched it up by trying a different stylist. Anyway I am overall very satisfied with what the color is. The cuts I receive I'm not as happy with. I am not saying they are bad in any way, except for an occasional oops that sides longer thing, but I just feel they are way shorter than I tell them. I always mention I have to have it tapered and shaped with layers in the back and my hair is very thick in the back, so cut away on the layering etc., but leave the length on the lowest layer. It's never shaped enough, and I know it can be done. Altho longest layer is always 1-2.5" shorter than when I came in. Just saying it's really hard to grow hair out into a different look that way. So I'm summary I feel they good with color, I just won't get a cut there anymore until my hair grows out a lot. read more
