If I could give Jane 100 stars as a rating instead of 5, I would! She is, by far, the best esthetician I have ever had!!! I have lived in so many places from all over South America, to Miami, Virginia, Pittsburg, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and now in Seattle. Plus I'm Latin so I have some thick, unruly eyebrows and some oily skin making me prone to getting facials often. With all that, I can honestly say that Jane is a true genius when it comes to being able to truly understanding esthetics. Not only is she an esthetician who has been educated professionally beyond a certification with a graduate degree in microbiology, she fundamentally and inherently understands how to make your skin look its best. If this opinion was only shared by me, I wouldn't make such a big deal about it here on yelp, but i have seen such great result on me, my brother and all my friends. And it all started one day last summer when she gave me an honest and reasonable assessment on how to clear my skin that didn't cramp my budget or the results! I have had complicated skin issues unfortunately my entire life, started waxing and threading at the age of 14, and I'm now 28 when I finally found this hidden gem in Shoreline, WA!!! I'm not exaggerating when I say I have gone on everything from oral antibiotics, to topical creams, to purchasing plenty of fancy skin care products, to even having to use Accutane for 7 months a few years ago. However, after all this time and the many Dr's I have seen, the only person who has made a significant long-term difference in my skin is Jane. My skin is looking the best it has ever looked. I know Im going on-and-on about Jane but seriously she is so great!! She's one of the few people in Seattle who performs threading, and for someone who is always using strong creams like me, waxing just isn't an option for my brows. Eyebrow wax was great. Service was also good. Jane is very nice and easy to talk to. I was disappointed with my brazilian. When I got home, I realized (painfully) that there was wax all over my inner thighs and private bits (that had since stuck to my clothing, and had to be ripped off). The wax job itself was rather sloppy, lots of hair remaining and some that felt more like it was razor-shorn than waxed. I had major regrowth within just a few days. I found Jane through Yelp and so glad I did. There is a reason she has a 5 star rating with over a hundred reviews. I was interested in trying "sugaring" after hearing about it from a friend. She was super easy to schedule an appointment with over text (which I love!). When I got there, she was super friendly off the bat and made me feel very comfortable! It is not a fancy place, but clean and cozy. The studio is hidden in a strip mall without any signage but with her instructions it was super easy to find. I had some jitters but Jane is super personable and chatted with me during the entire bikini wax appt like it was no big deal. Also, was also very professional. She knew I wanted to try sugaring but also used her hybrid wax which actually was better' She gave me her honest opinion but let me form my own also! I've never had a Brazilian wax before in my life. I've always shaved and can't believe I waited so long to do this! Ok I have been seeing Jane for a bit now, at her old place and now a few doors down and her fabulous new spot. I referred to yelp to find a place in Seattle that had 'threading' I had never had it done before and wanted to give it a try. I have found her. Jane has the most amazing bedside manner you feel at ease and amazingly comfortable with her. I have super sensitive skin so threading was definitely the way to go vs. waxing and I love how my eyebrows look after. All the 5-star reviews are spot on for Jane and Studio JYC. She is extremely knowledgeable, her customer service is unmatched, and her personality alone is worth the VERY reasonable prices. I first met Jane when I took my wife to get her brows done. After she gave my wife some very helpful advice, she took one look at me and told me bluntly to get in the chair in the way that only she can get away with. I had my reservations about being "that guy" that gets his brows done, but she persuaded me to try it out. The service was great and I walked out looking better than when I came in. Jane's outstanding initial service made me a loyal customer. I'm addicted to the new unibrow-free me. I always leave with a smile on a face from Jane's witty banter and appreciate the fact that she is so accommodating with her appointment schedule and communicates quickly via email and text. I have always had 'problem' skin. But what happened to my face during the several month span of getting threaded by Jane was an absolute nightmare. This was my first experience with threading as I had always waxed and sugared before. The first appointment was easy, I sent her a text to see if I could come in to get my lip done and she was able to see me no problem. She was very friendly and welcoming and I liked her right away. She did a great job with my lip so I began going regularly and added in the brows. I soon started to notice a lot of small rashy looking zits on whatever area I had threaded. During one visit she threaded what felt like my entire face without me asking her too. I didn't really think anything of it, and it seemed like a nice bonus. It was not long after this that my cheeks and chin began to erupt in deep and painful pimples. My skin was suddenly really clogged all over, even on my temples and jaw. I had never experienced any breakout or congestion like this before even when I was a teen and my acne was at it's raging worst. I kept going to see Jane because all the while she seemed to be trying to help me. Fast forward a few agonizing, acne filled months to... My last visit with Jane. Very unpleasant. She got upset because I was using a new face care product that apparently she didn't approve of. The thing is, I really tried to follow her advice on products but some of it was conflicting. She told me in a very rude and annoyed tone that my face is really oily and really hairy. (Gee thanks so much for pointing that out because I hadn't noticed after 30 + years of living with it.) Then she said that she sometimes stops seeing clients who don't follow her advice. And I guess that's what happened with me because shortly after this awful visit she started ignoring my attempts to make another appointment (honestly in hindsight I could punch myself for even trying to go back there after being treated that way...) But as it turns out, not being 'allowed' to go back there was the best thing that could have happened to me. It took about a month but my skin began to clear, and has been back to normal ever since, even though I continue to get threaded at a different salon. read more

I went in to clean up my eyebrows because I was curious about threading, I also read a few reviews that said she embraces 'natural looking eyebrows' and I had to get some skin tags off. I went a year ago and I'm glad the skin tags are gone, but I'm not glad that I have small white scar "dots" around my neck. I don't scar easily and I wear chemical AND physical sunscreen AND I stay out of the sun, so I'm sure that the sun had nothing to do with it (like some of my friends have said). And, yes, I think skin tags can be gross depending on how visible they are. Although mine were tiny, they still bothered me. I went to her to get them taken off instead of paying tons of money to see my dermatologist or my doctor who would probably do the same as she did. I'm biracial, and her little comments about how I got my skin tags from the "white side" of my family ticked me off, but I gave her an awkward 'laugh-it-off' style chuckle. I definitely wasn't going to get pissed off five minutes into a session when I wanted those dang things off of my neck. Eyebrows... *sigh*.... I'm sorry, but I looked awkward afterward. The comments about how my eyebrows were too thick and having no shape should have been a red flag. I actually had my eyebrows waxed at my usual salon 3 weeks prior to seeing her. They were still shaped, I just had tiny hairs that needed to be threaded off. I clearly stated that I just wanted her to clean up those tiny hairs. Instead, I came out with ultra thin eyebrows (very unflattering for my face) and not only that, they were also stubby. Like, SHORT. The length of my eyebrows from the corner of my eyes to the other corner was shortened! I also lost the eyebrow arches I had before seeing her because they went straight across.... *sigh* I was so upset when I saw myself in the mirror, but I didn't have the heart to tell her that I was embarrassed to go out in public. What was done was done. I can't paste my eyebrow hairs back once they're gone. I was so embarrassed after I got my eyebrows done that I went out of my way to buy bigger sunglasses to cover my eyebrows. I also changed my hair style for a month to give myself fake bangs to fully cover at least one eyebrow (then it would only be half as bad, right? :/). And what's weird is that it hurt even more when my boyfriend was trying to get me out of my funk by saying that they weren't THAT bad and that they'd eventually grow out... The thin, short, straight stubs just didn't go with my face... I wish she would have *seen* that before threading me. And I wish she would have HEARD me when I asked to just get the mini hairs cleaned up. She's spunky, blunt, and would be cool to hang out with as a friend. Probably cooler to hang out with when you want a drinking buddy, hahah. But I'm sticking with my usual salon to get my eyebrows done. read more

Fan-freakin'-tastic. Jane is the Obi-Wan Kenobi of the Brazilian Wax. She really knows her stuff, and uses a special wax that is 10 times less painful than the burning hot wax and ripping most places use. I never thought I'd enjoy getting a Braz, but I'm now a believer, mostly because Jane is so ultra-chill, cool and fun. I was recovering from a couple of bad Brazilians in a row, and Jane is helping me get my wanda back in shape. No broken or ingrown hairs, no bumps, nothing. I wanted to go get a latte and hang out with her in her space for the rest of the day, but the clients after me may have objected. :) And the brow threading is a trip, you have to try it! No redness, no bumps, super clean results. It's kinda scary how good she is, she might just be practicing some voodoo witchcraft back there. Place is hard to find, she has a room in the back of a salon, but worth it. It was just like hanging out with a good friend (a very good friend who happens to really know vijayjay). I agree with everyone and had high expectations when I scheduled an appointment and Jane definately met them! I had a traumatizing experience with my first brazilian wax at what Jane called a "viet chop shop" because I didn't realize how popular brazilian waxes were so everywhere was booked for Valentine's day. So I swore never to do it again unless it was a very very special occasion. Then planned a trip to Vegas and realized I'd be in a bathing suit all day since it was 109 degrees there so I mustered up the courage to do it again and this time I did my research. Found Jane through yelp and was pleased with her ratings and pricing so I booked a brazilian and eyebrow wax. She was really great through the process, I'm sure I was a difficult customer since I can't tolerate pain well and was squirming so much but she was still super nice and made the process less painful and scary. It was definately not as painful as the last time since she took her time with me, and she suggested the eyebrow thread instead of the waxing and I am now converted to threading! My eyebrows are definately a work in process since I've been getting them waxed at some cheap place and I'm glad Jane fixed them. I also wasn't sure whether to go with sugaring or waxing for the brazilian and she personally suggested the wax since it's less pulling and I liked that she didn't just try to suggest the more expensive service (sugaring is $10 more) but suggested what would be best for me. She even offered to do a trial of each to see which one I'd like better. I ended up just going with the hot wax because it required less pulling and since I'm a newbie I wanted the minimal pulling required! I LOVE Jane. She is brutally honest and terrific at what she does. She is super accommodating and takes her time and I didn't feel rushed. She also made some skin treatment recommendations which I appreciated, yet didn't oversell me on extra services even though I'd let her wax whatever she wants. She got my brows in shape for my wedding and now I won't touch them or let anyone else since I don't want to mess up her wonderful work. Yesterday, I decided at the last minute to get my eyebrows waxed. I hadn't taken care of them in months, but I was starting college after 21 years, and I decided that I didn't want to go in looking like I didn't care about myself. I had no idea where to go, especially on a Sunday, so I started looking through the Yelp reviews. JYC caught my attention when I saw that she was against pencil thin eyebrows, which I've ended up with in the past & hated. Despite her being booked up on a Sunday, Jane graciously fit me into her schedule. I had been out running some pretty dirty errands, so I didn't have time to change out of my old jeans and ratty T-shirt, but, despite that, she greeted me warmly without any hesitation. As she worked on me, we talked about my return to school and my pursuit of a male-dominated tech career. She was genuinely sweet and interested. Not only did she make my eyebrows look beautiful, she gave me some very much needed support and encouragement. Never in a million years would I have thought I would gain so much from just going to get my eyebrows waxed. Jane is the best aesthetician out there. I can guarantee, your skin will look flawless and amazing after seeing her. I came here for a concern with a couple of red bumps under my cheeks, but nowhere else on my face. I thought that I was going to be stuck with these bumps forever. They made my skin just look red from far away, but upon closer look, you could tell that these were mini bumps, but not poppable pimples or milia. I had been using over-drying products for the past two years ago, and upon first glance, Jane was able to diagnose my skin as being too dried-out. She had given me an amazing facial and chemical peel (painful, but worth it!) and told me that my skin would be bad for about a week. I was so worried that my skin would look red and blotchy for a long time, so I would text her throughout the process with photos of my skin. She always texted me back saying not to worry and that it was normal, and she never got annoyed at me for texting her too much. By the second time I had returned to her, my skin was SIGNIFICANTLY better. The red bumps had gone away, and all that was left were some hyperpigmentation spots we worked on, and continually improving the texture of the skin so that it was baby smooth. I will continue going only to Jane, as I trust her completely with my skin. Her product recommendations are excellent and did not break the bank. So I was lucky enough to get a gift certificate to Jane's studio for Christmas. The total dunce that I am, I did not get around to making an appointment with her till now. I have always trusted yelp reviews until now...I am actually surprised that Jane had received so many good reviews, but I think it may be because people have not experienced a "good" brazilian wax. I have received many brazilian waxes in my lifetime - and decided to try out Studio JYC because it was one of few in the Shoreline area. Usually when I received a brazilian wax (and from different salons), the standard has been: the waxer wiped the area clean, used a new stick every time she waxed while keeping in mind the direction of the hair growth to make it less painful, sometimes even used numbing spray after each pull to reduce pain, tweezed any missing hairs not waxed, wiped antiseptic liquid all over, and then finished off with baby powder. Although Jane did the brazilian job I had asked her to, it was a very painful and sloppy experience. She used this "bubblegum" wax (the name describes its color and consistency) that was so sticky that she jerked it slowly off, which created the painful experience. And then when I arrived at home, I had noticed that there were still a few hairs she had forgotten to tweeze. (Note: I also have a friend that has gotten her eyebrows done here. Jane also used the "bubblegum" wax. She also has described the experience as sloppy.) Anyway, for the brazilian wax (especially when someone is messing with your privates), trust me, better spend the extra money for a much better, more pampering, relaxing experience. read more
