I see that Studio G has decided to defend my horrible review of the salon by making up (flat out lying) that I used foul language. It's a lie. I just asked the girl: "Where's the blonde that I asked for?" She pouted and went to get the boss. I explained calmly that the young lady didn't do what asked and the boss said I could leave and didn't have to pay. Good! It wasn't worth the money. But stating that I used foul language is designed to offset the complaint--which was a legitimate complaint. Sad that this is the tactic this lousy hair salon has to use. Studio G is one of those hidden gems! It is a mother and daughter owned business and what is more to like about that. Walking out of there feeling more confident and in love with your hair while paying amazing prices is awesome! So lucky to have found this place! Highly recommend ! I have found my new salon! Since moving to VA from SoCal I have been on the hunt for a new salon. I scoured out different locations, searched on Yelp and asked for recommendations. Studio G came highly recommended and it did not disappoint! It is a small salon tucked in with a few other shops on Mine Rd. If you aren't looking for it, you will drive right past it. The cost was reasonable for what I had done and my stylist was completely honest about my expectations and we were able to find something that would look good and that I'd like. Absolute sweetest girl cut my hair. I asked for an angled bob. She didn't get the right and didn't take off enough hair. I went back for a touch up, and she still didn't get the angle right. There is a noticeable drop off at the front pieces of my hair, and the left side is also noticeably shorter than the right. I've never had a hair cut that was so unsymmetrical. I'm going to have to wear it up for at least 3 months until enough can grow out that I can have someone fix it. Super disappointing and upsetting. read more

Walked in a bog witch - walked out a BABE Just moved to the area not long ago and finally settled in enough to treat myself to a little Mommy Maintenance. Y'all know how it goes - between the kids and the job and the house and the blah blah blah, the months add up quickly in between appointments, not to mention being anxious about going to see someone new. From step one in the door, the entire Studio G team put me right at ease. Everyone was so courteous and friendly - ready to help make my experience a great one. Miss Jessica is truly a sorceress. She took time with our consultation, asked lots of great questions and really helped me understand not just the pricing but the actual process. We had a loose plan and I just trusted her with the rest. It was very clear to me with her care and questions that she's a seasoned pro who knows what she's doing and is aiming to do right by her clients. I sincerely could not be happier with the results. My hair looks amazing but also FEELS amazing, and don't you know there's a little strut in this tired old mama's step today. I planned to let go and move forward without writing a review, however, Studio G asked me to write a review. Here is my review. I was bullied, insulted and thrown under the bus by another customer at Studio G Salon, while all the employees stood by silently. To throw someone under the bus is to criticize, blame, or punish them, especially in order to avoid blame or gain an advantage. Freedom of speech is an American ideal. On a basic level, it means that people can express an opinion (even an unpopular or unsavory one) without fear. Democracy is an acceptance of many viewpoints, perspectives, thoughts and ideas. Accepting difference means understanding how we are alike, how we are different and treating everyone with respect and understanding regardless of the differences. In the past I felt comfortable talking openly at Studio G. I understand now this was a false perception. Employees and a customer used passive aggressive words and behavior to humiliate me. Limits on discussion topics can't be assumed. Simply and kindly changing the subject is possible. Simply stating, "I do not want to talk about this," is possible. Setting clear boundaries can be set without passive aggressive verbal abuse. I will not return to Studio G because I do not want to be bullied, insulted and thrown under the bus again. Individuals have different opinions and perspectives. I did not understand the boundaries and limits of discussion at Studio G. I thought everyone was open to different viewpoints, perspectives, thoughts and ideas, however, they were not. I felt their resentment, and strong and painful bitterness focused on me. Their resentment toward me came out in a form of mocking and rude behavior. In the end, when I am singled out, and others try to make me feel unworthy, I say "I hope you feel better about yourself and found the experience helpful to you." I understand the danger when someone who humiliates others in order to make themselves feel powerful is very likely to turn even nastier and strike back. I learned from this experience and understand the reality is to not allow others to damage my self-esteem. I will not put myself in this situation again. I sincerely hope Studio G will not justify or excuse this incident. I do not need to be lectured, punished  or demeaned further on this subject. Nothing justifies the unkindness and rudeness of singling me out. This was a horrible experience. I have paid the price! Disagreements should not be so unreasonable and cruel. Enough is enough! read more

I butched my own bangs a month ago thinking that I could rock Carly Rae Jepson bangs. I can't. I looked gross. I came in to Studio G hoping they could salvage something out of my seventies mom-hair mop. In walks an angel named Sarah! Not only did she blend my bangs into the rest of my hair in a really soft subtle way that I love, she gave me my first balayage! After a little discussion I let her know I didn't like how brassy my hair had gotten and she cooled it down and gave me this really beautiful color that fades into a really pretty blond at the ends. I left with soft beautifully cut and colored hair and couldn't be happier. read more

Sooo not wanting to write a negative review, but... I was new to the area and DESPERATE for a new stylist. Laura took me as a client and I was with her for about 8 months. Not sure where to start so I will just number the issues. 1. Color was good though not my taste, still I went with it and it was fine/good at best. No WOW factor there. 2. Laura the stylist would constantly answer the door or be on the phone while checking clients out. Where's the front desk person????? 3. Because of this she would take every walk-in that came and leave me sitting there while she discussed hair plans with other clients. 4. Would dry my hair straight then slide the scissors through my hair a couple of times, never taking off any dead ends or bulky weight ( I have long thick hair). She would then ask " is this ok??? Wow. 5. When I would ask her to take more off she would sigh lightly and there would be this strange irritable silence, again, WOW. This, and this is the kicker. She stiffed me after I had come to her from October to may. She called me while I was en route and said I was 20 min late when it was only five minutes ( I have the reminder email). When i realized she was giving me the run around she told me she had two other clients and I was "in between " them, mind you I had the appointment for 7weeks. Would I like to reschedule????? No, that pretty much takes care it, thank you!! I must note that I found a great stylist at Foiled Salon in Stafford. What a breath of fresh air to be treated nicely and not be an irritant in a stylists life, what a concept. AND the cut and color is AMAZING!! I visited this salon a few years ago and still can't get over how awful my experience was. Hence...why I am rating it with 1 star and would rate with 0 if I could. At the time I was feeling a little wild with my hair, and wanted black tips for my upcoming trip to NYC. I requested Studio G's color specialist because even with my limited knowledge of dying hair, I knew putting black tips on blonde hair would be tough. When I explained what I wanted to the color specialist, she seemed like she knew her stuff. In fact, she said it would be best to use a dark red instead of black because of some reason or another I can't remember. It sounded convincing so I took her advice and chose a purplish red that was maybe 1-2 shades from black. Here is where her professionalism ended... First: She did not let me sit facing the mirror while she applied the dye. This was my first warning that something was wrong. Second: She was all but slapping the dye on my hair. It literally took her about 10 minutes to apply it. With something that requires such precision as what I asked for, you'd think it would take longer than that. Third: She continued to not let me see my hair even after she rinsed it and became to hack away at it with scissors. Oh why did I not stop her than? I believe the shock was already setting in. The first time I was allowed to see my hair was after she had already blown it out, and it was unbelievable. I didn't even know how to react, so I just smiled and nodded and started talking about how it was "great" and kind of "funky". Stupid me I should have started screaming. The dye had bled all the way up to the root of my hair, leaving patches of a ruddy purple color all through my hair. Anyone who visits salons regularly knows that it is custom for the entire staff to come over and gush over your beautiful new hair. Well, not a single stylists said a word to me after my "big reveal". The only person who would speak to me was the cashier who still charged me $135.00 dollars. I just wish I wouldn't have been in such shock at the time, because that mess should not only have been free, but it should have also bought me another appointment to fix it. Thanks for not being an honest salon and ruining my hair not only for my first trip to NYC but also for months after. Unbelievable. Lesson learned. Never again.... read more

I've been going to Jena Kirk at Studio G since last summer. My hair was dead and poorly colored with box dye. She went above and beyond and made me a beautiful red! It is brighter than I thought my dark brown hair could ever get without bleach! The cut was perfect and I could not be happier with the color. We have changed it to a slightly different shade of red which I adore as well. I plan on keeping it red with her help for quite a while! My hair has never been healthier than in Jena's care. read more

I love this salon! Everyone is so friendly and my hair looks great. I used to go to Winning Image but stopped because the front desk receptionist was very rude. She talks down to me every time we would interact on the phone or in person. If she's that miserable at her job, she needs to find a new one. I pay too much money to get my hair done to go to a salon that treats their customers that way. I can definitely say that Studio G is wonderful in every aspect. I worked here for some time and the environment is wonderful however the manager Jessica's attitude at work towards clients and coworkers alike is absolutely deplorable and unprofessional. The way she spoke to the assistants while I was there was astounding. I have never been so disrespected in a workplace before. However!!!!!! They're a magnificent salon with kind owners and a ~mostly~ wonderful staff. Before taking a job there I was a client and would have continued after even if it wasn't for managements (NOT the owners) treatment of me and my fellow coworkers. Like I said the owners are wonderful kind people I've known for some time and they're a great professional salon. It's a shame this stylist brings such a dark atmosphere. read more

I found this place because I wanted to cut my long hair into a pixie, and a friend suggested the owner, Gina. Let me tell you, she did a fabulous job. I kind of went in there and said "I want it short, I don't know exactly how I want it to look, make me look cute" and she did. My favorite hairstyle of all time, no exaggeration. I got compliments on it constantly. There were a couple times when she would cut it and I would be a little displeased about something here or there, and before I left the chair she would always fix the problem right away. No complaints. A couple different girls had cut my daughter's hair, my favorite was Jenna. She did the cutest freaking bob on my daughter.. Would always chat with her, very nice! Lo (I think is her name..?) also sid a great job, but we only saw her once. The shampoos were awesome, they massage your head, take their time. They offer you coffee, tea, sodas, etc when you walk in the door. The only reason I'm not going there now is because I moved! I can't speak to the skill of any of the stylists with color because they've never dyed my hair, but their hair always seems on point so I wouldn't doubt their skill. If you need a haircut or color, Abby is your girl!!! I've seen her about 3-4x because she was recommended to me by one of my friends! She is amazing and I was very happy with my ombre after not coloring my hair for over a year. I am moving withing the next few weeks a little bit closer to DC and I wish I could take her with me! I do think I will continue to make the trips back to Stafford though so I can get my hair taken care of. The ONLY reason I didn't rate this place 5 stars is because although I had an appt. for 6pm, I wasn't seen until 6:20 pm because she was still attending to another client with a crap load of hair. read more

I had seen so many good reviews for Studio G so I thought I'd give it a try and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere is friendly and warm. I had Abby and she listened to every request I had and done exactly that with my hair. I couldn't be more pleased with my haircut and my hair dresser. I took a risk choosing a stylist new to the salon but Mariah did an amazing job on both me and my sister. She was on time with our appointments and also quick, but very thorough. I have been going to Jessica at Studio G now for well over a year and could not be happier! I have very thick, course naturally curly/wavy hair that is over 50% gray and very hard to cut/style. Before Studio G I NEVER left a salon "excited or happy" about the way my hair looked. I always felt I could style it better. Jessica takes the time at every visit to really look at my hair, I mean feel it, touch it, really look at the current color and the way it is styled. We discuss what I would like (I am famous for bringing in pictures) and she is point blank honest in telling me if the color or cut will look right with the shape of my face, the texture of my hair or the coloring of my skin. She has never led me down the wrong road and has even shown me how to blow dry and care for my hair so it always looks salon good! She is a true professional. She really knows color and the current trends in cuts. She keeps me updated with the current classes she has taken, etc... I am truly very happy with Studio G and have recommended them to several people. My hair has never been healthier and I even like my curly hair now, where as before I would have sold my soul to the devil for straight hair! I spent years trying out numerous salons and being disappointed time and time again. Since finding Studio G, I won't go anywhere else and drive about an hour to get my hair done. It's more than worth it! The salon has a great vibe to it and all the employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. Jenna is my stylist and she is beyond fantastic. She always consults before doing anything, listens to what I want and provides insight on how "this or that" would work. I bounce back and forth with short hair and it's so hard to find a stylist who can work with short hair without making the cut look boring or boyish. No matter how short we go, Jenna always manages to make sure it's feminine, sexy and fun. I have nothing to worry about when I sit in her chair. Jenna also did my hair and makeup for my wedding.
