The Aida became part of the gift simply for how easy it was to book, the communication from the owners was quick and friendly, and it ended up being close to the theater we were seeing a show at! I booked this hotel thinking it would be like any other hotel. I was wrong on all accounts. The Aida gives you the comforts and peace of any hotel chain that cares about its guests but where the Aida stands out is the ease of booking, checking in, checking out, and communication I usually receive from a vacation rental. That's just the experience I had before we even checked in! Upon check in we were both delightfully surprised at the gorgeous historic building it actually was. Situated across the street from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of art and amongst other gorgeous historic buildings, our mini birthday vacation became more than we expected yet everything we wanted. Check in was contactless and a breeze. We found our room quickly and loved that it was a corner room with a little sitting area separated by a thick velvet curtain from the sleeping area. There were no closets but there were hanging rods we could easily hang our jackets and clothing if needed. The touch of local chocolate was nice and the postcard was as well. I love getting postcards from where we travel to, a small souvenir that takes little space in your luggage! The bathroom was clean and the shower head felt nice after a long day of gallivanting around town. We ended up just walking to the show that night and it was a pleasant evening to walk back. The next day we checked out just as easily as check in and spent more time around the city. We truly loved our stay here. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we woke up refreshed and knew we'd stay here again! I almost forgot to mention, not only was the inside of the hotel well kept but so was the garden and seating area outside. It's its own peaceful oasis under the trees!

The day of the wedding we were able to all get ready together, have breakfast, and take some photos in the house. Breakfast was delicious and included gluten free options. There was also a fridge available for guests to use which was helpful for keeping our mimosa ingredients nice and cold. The house itself is a beautiful older home that's been so nicely updated and decorated. The house has so much character! I'd highly recommend Halcyon to anyone stopping in Lawrence. The house is located near Mass Street, and there's plenty of street parking available.

Everything surrounding this experience is online - including check in and check out. Guests receive emails and text messages regarding their reservation and access information for the hotel and their guest room. There are no "on site" personnel (at least none that I saw) but that in no way takes away from the experience. The shared areas are beautifully appointed with small treats (including a Nespresso coffee maker, small bites and we also noticed a bottle of wine from our return back after the concert). There are three common areas that I noticed, the outdoor patio that is "upstairs", and two sitting areas inside the main warehouse. Additional for guests to access in the warehouse space are an ice machine and an armoire with additional toiletries. Everything was meticulously decorated and very VIBEY. We booked room 1, the king suite. It was very spacious and the bed/linens were very comfortable. We received two bottles of water and an artisanal box of two chocolates for free in the room. Now, we are uncertain of maybe some dynamic pricing because of the concert (the city was pretty sparse on accommodations likely because of the concert) but the room was $380 for one night. Again, the space was large, comfortable and very vibey but that is for sure a very luxury per night price. So just be aware of that. The toiletries were high end and there was an optional area of snacks and beverages at cost in the room. The only slight downfalls of this room were the TV being Roku so we had to log in to various apps in order to just have some background news on in the morning. The room also let in a lot of ambient noise from the shared space as well as light from the outside/street. The communication from the remote staff was very thorough and prompt. Despite not being "onsite" all my questions and requests were attended to immediately. I was able to get an early check in and when I was confused about how to access my room Ryan was super helpful and very quick to support me. Overall, this is a gorgeous and incredibly comfortable spot in KC. It was very conveniently located for the concert and I'd highly recommend it.

Not the strongest start. Once inside, the atmosphere had its ups and downs. I had the chance to meet the chef, who was incredibly personable and clearly passionate about his craft. We kicked things off with appetizers, and this is where the kitchen really began to shine. The lobster rangoons and tempura shrimp were both excellent--crispy, flavorful, and well-executed. For entrées, my daughter and sister-in-law both ordered the chef's burger and really enjoyed it. My niece had the steak frites and absolutely loved it. My wife ordered the lemon brick chicken with gnocchi and olive tapenade. After tasting it, I felt the gnocchi could have benefited from a quick sauté in clarified butter, finished with a squeeze of lemon and fresh herbs to bring out the depth the dish promised. I went with the Wagyu burger. The cook on it was spot-on, but the execution fell short. It came topped with three large slabs of bacon hanging well over the sides, making it difficult to eat without taking it apart. After adjusting it myself, I noticed it was under-seasoned--something as simple as a finishing salt would have elevated the richness of the Wagyu significantly. Overall, Ophelia's has a lot of potential. The food shows promise, the chef clearly knows his craft, and the space is visually appealing. With a few adjustments in both service and execution, this could easily become a top-tier spot. I'll be back--and I'd still recommend giving it a try. 4 out of 5 forks.

The room was welcoming with the door sign- Don and Anne plus the Mr & Mrs sign on the bed with chocolate truffles.
