Aloft Katy Mills Mall - September 20, 2026…read more The weekend of September 18-20, we had nine rooms reserved: five rooms for two nights and four rooms for three nights. Later in the evening on September 18, we booked a tenth room for two nights. On Sunday, September 20, I missed a call from the Aloft. No voicemail was left, so I called back and spoke with Makayla. She asked which room numbers were staying a third night. I advised her of the rooms we had booked through the Marriott app and through Brie. Makayla explained that, per her Assistant Manager, she needed the specific room numbers. I told her we had not written down which room numbers corresponded to the two-night and three-night reservations, but I would check my app to see if I could determine them. After checking the app, I found that the room numbers were not assigned to the individual confirmation numbers. I explained this to Makayla. She then stated that she would send housekeeping into each room to see whether luggage remained inside and use that information to determine which rooms were staying a third night. My response was NO, due to privacy concerns. She then advised me that she would check us out of all the rooms and that everyone could check back in when they arrived at the hotel. I asked to speak with the Assistant Manager who had instructed her to call me. She stated that the Assistant Manager was not available. I then told her I would contact Brie, and Makayla responded, "Go right ahead and contact her. She doesn't work here anymore." I told Makayla not to touch any of the rooms and to leave them alone, then ended the call. Since then, we have been charged for the tenth room but have not received a receipt. We called the hotel to request one and spoke with a very nice employee whose name I unfortunately do not remember. However, she was unable to locate the receipt. At this point, we have disputed the charge. The employee I spoke with was very concerned about my experience with Makayla and provided me with the General Manager's email address. I emailed Jay approximately one week ago but have received no response. We will be returning to the area four times next year for this event. However, due to Makayla's extreme rudeness and unprofessional behavior, we will never stay at this hotel again, nor will we recommend the Aloft Katy Mills Mall to others.

The front desk felt inattentive--not just lacking in customer service, but in basic business professionalism. Once I finally got into my room, it felt and smelled stale. The layout was awkward, especially with the kitchen setup. The table in the middle made it difficult to move from the front door to the bedroom area without feeling cramped. I'm someone who irons my clothes after unpacking, and that turned into its own ordeal. I went through three irons before finding one that actually heated up. The ironing board was unstable, and the cover kept slipping off. The air conditioning only worked half the time, and the bed sheets were questionable at best. The one bright spot was breakfast. The breakfast staff was wonderful, and the made‑to‑order omelets were the highlight of my stay. Overall, I can't recommend this location until significant improvements are made.

When told that we just wanted the 2 Queen room, they said that the two room suite was cheaper. Traveling more than 4 hours, just wanted a room, so done ($250+ per night, absolutely a rip off). (I suspected that they either overbooked, or didn't have any Queen rooms.) Construction going on at this hotel (June 2025), just for your info. (Many hotels discount their rates a bit when they have construction going on, but not here). Breakfast was standard, so no issues there, except for the staff member who emptied the trash, but put the lid back on, not knowing a yogurt container was thrown away and from the reaction from the staff member, you would have thought a dirty diaper had been tossed out... The room was clean and the suite was nice, albeit expensive. However, the room was never cleaned until the front desk was approached and it was strongly requested. Again, for this kind of money, you would think that you would get the room cleaned and refreshed daily. The second night, early in the AM, (from approximately 1 AM to about 3:30 AM) the room above had a heard of elephants or perhaps a good old fashioned Texas rodeo was going on, maybe a stampede? Anyway, after a bit a call to the front desk resulted in no change, a second call to the front desk resulted in the clerk stating that she was the only employee in the hotel and couldn't do anything other than ask the loud guests to quiet down. Many concerns here, such as being right on the outskirts of Houston, and this being a larger hotel, there is no security or more than just one employee? Yikes! Not safe for the employee or the numerous guests! I called and spoke to the front desk in the morning and his indifference was overpowering. He basically brushed off ALL of my concerns from arguing with me about the price of the room, the change of rooms (he confirmed me suspicions when he told me there were only three 2 queen bed rooms in the whole hotel, so they were also premium), not that makes any sense at all, but he also stated that only active duty got discounts, but no retirees, when I asked about first responder discounts, he changed his tune and said, because of the premium room, there were no discounts. He also argued that the night clerk had done her job, which she may have done, e.g. called the room or what up there, but it was not effective. When I asked about escalation, e.g. calling the cops, he didn't have an answer, nor did he have one for my concern for the hotel night clerk and the guests staying there. By now, most hotel clerks would have spoken to their management about a discount or a room reduction due to the noise and poor nights sleep, inconveniences, oh and especially as it was a "premium room" and all that, but nope! The only thing he offered to die was put a few extra points on my Marriott rewards. Poor customer service and my biggest issue was the apathy and lack of empathy / caring. I did NOT feel valued as a customer at all. Very disappointed with the whole experience, I will NOT be staying at a Marriott chain (Residence Inn in this case), anytime in the near future. With so many hotels to choose from these days, look at the Yelp reviews and just call the hotel itself and ask general questions, and see how the staff responds to your questions, were they patient or were the rude or disrespectful, perhaps only just meh? In any case, from the prices hotels charge these days, I don't think it is too much to ask to be treated fairly, respectfully and professionally! 1 star removed for check in experience 1 star removed for front desk clerks apathy / attitude 1 star removed for construction and late night / early morning noise 1 star removed for overall experience and high cost (upselling) of room, etc. If I could given zero stars, I would have. I also called corporate Marriott to see if their customer service folks gave a darn, the lady I spoke with was very patient and kind and listened, but not sure what will come of that, if anything.

Check-out was much better since there was another person. Odd customers who stopped me at the elevator calling me a beautiful mermaid but that's not something I can make the hotel be responsible for. Good thing was the bed sheets were clean, hotel room was clean, and a workable fridge + microwave. Having a microwave in the room helped a lot, especially since my mother is limited to vegan food, that many hotel restaurants do not offer. As a single female it's important to highlight places that you feel safe and secure to stay in as I travel alone. When I arrived the hotel upgraded me as a complementary offer as I have diamond elite status with IHG which is always nice. However there were several issues 1) the air con was so loud all night and never stopped asked if there was anything that could be done to fixed it and I was told just turn it off not exactly helpful tbh consider I was in from Ireland and the heat here is unreal. Then the fridge didn't work and it wasn't keeping anything cold. However the biggest issues I have with this stay is I woke up at 5am and my room was stinking of weed like someone was smoking it in my room. I have respiratory failure and when I woke up my head was so painful due to the suppression of my oxygen due to the amount of weed in my room. I called front desk it took them 10/15mins to answer the call at 5:30am the staff member came into the room and his first words were "oh shit this isn't good" according to texas state law the police should have been called as yes it's not illegal to smoke weed it is however illegal to smoke it in shared spaces and hotels. The police were not contacted, I was told next morning the staff were waiting on management to come in to deal with it at 9:30am then I was told that the manager wouldn't be in until later and that the guests were still on the property and had another night booked. I asked for management to call me however I got an email 12hrs later to say the police could deal with it as the guests had already left and that they would refund my night. I responded and asked why the staff didn't follow texas state law at the time as they didn't and stated how it had affected me medically I'm still awaiting a response and has passed this on to Ihg. I'm disappointed as my other stays have been great.

I stayed here because it had the best reviews and I'm wondering if maybe the reviews were meant for the other location up the road. first, you walk in and are hit with the instant smell of mold/mildew. no ac and just hot. in the halls its sooooo hot! I was in a room that reeked of mold. I stayed in it one night and woke up with the worst headache. So I asked to switch rooms and the next one was slightly better but still smelled of mold. i tried to spray and nothing would help. I had been at a skills lab all day and needed the time after to practice my skills for a very important assessment for nursing school so I honestly couldnt afford to keep asking for another room, or leave early and pay for another hotel. Im home and unpacked my bag, everything reeks of mold and I have had to put it outside and instantly washing everything. Yesterday at the hotel I could barely sleep and I wasnt feeling so hot. I just figured it was from just being worn out. But then this morning I woke up and I just couldnt stay in there anymore so I checked out and got on the road early. my throat and breathing jidt couldnt take it anymore. its so bad you dont want to linger, you just want to hurry and leave. the floor felt slimy and gross as I walked in my skid proof shoes and my flip flops. I bet if they lifted those floors it would def be mold underneath. there was hair on the floor from previous ppl. the floors are absolutely gross, even in the bathroom. i took a wipe across it and wanted to vomit. the pillows smell so bad and the sheets stick to you because of the humid gross ac. the ac feels like a really cold swamp cooler and was leaking water. people were raving about the "amazing breakfast," which was just as bad as the rooms. I chose this place because ppl said the breakfast was good. I thought I could get breakfast at 6 am before having to be at my lab by 645 am. the first day I go down and they say her car broke down. I grabbed a really over ripe banana and some hard boiled eggs that were either old or just from a bag or something. they had a strange texture. tried to do toast but when I opened the drawer it smelled fermented. the potatoes were most def reheated and not fresh and had tons of pepper on them and just tasted gross. I wanted oatmeal and it wasnt ready. the eggs are def egg beaters and the omelet is just that frozen rubber thing with fake american cheese. The service time was inconsistent and I couldnt afford to sit past 620 because I had to be on the road to labs. As I was leaving today I decided id get a waffle since I had time. the batter was spoiled. I took a bite and my waffles was sour. super fermented. I told the front desk. i figured let me just try a biscuit or something, that was even worse. i think ppls tastebuds are awful because i kept throwing everything away. the lady doing breakfast is sweet, but they need to really stop serving old stale food. They also say "sound proof rooms" but i could hear ppl flushing their toilet and throughout the hall. this was by far one of the worst hotels ive ever stayed at. I was friggin stuck there from mon-sat morning and I couldnt wait to get back home. I planned to stay here again in Feb for my next skills lab, but I already canceled the reservation. the health department needs to get to this place because its just not safe for anyone to be enclosed that long with that type of mold.
