I have been to some of the highest rated salons in the triangle (Douglas Carroll -where the top stylist did my hair, Sam and Bills -near Cameron Village, and Rock Paper Scissors- Downtown Durham). Since I quit my job to be a stay at home mom, I can't afford to spend $$$$ on my hair anymore. I needed to find a place that was reasonable with talent and hopefully a group of hair dressers that treated me like a person and not just a customer. I found that and more. Hairplay is a group of the nicest and most talented women. The salon itself is adorable and not over the top! It's very welcoming. Joy, the owner, did my hair and she is fabulous. Upon booking my appointment she blocked off plenty of time for just me. I've been to places before where I was one of three clients being thrown around. Here I felt like it was all about me and my hair! Joy is an amazing hair artist. She got my color EXACTLY how I wanted it and made it look so much healthier. I lost a lot of hair after my pregnancy and it was looking rough...but now it looks beautiful again! The rest of the ladies are fabulous too. Paula did my hair in 2011 for my bridal shoot & wedding and I received so many compliments and people asking me who did it so they could go to her for their wedding hair style. I am so thankful I came here! They will do your hair how YOU want it - and you'll leave feeling like a Queen and not like you didn't have anything done! :) Thank you ladies!

My mother and I visited The Room for back-to-back haircut appointments with Jessica, the owner…read more Jessica was very opinionated, loud, obnoxious and rude! Not to mention the bad haircuts....let's begin. First, she kept cutting me off when I was talking so don't expect to get a word in edgewise. Second, she doesn't have music playing in her salon, she listens to a police radio which is definitely not the vibe I like in my salons. Third, I have recently suffered from a sickness and she had the audacity to tell me I'd be fine and I didn't need to go see a doctor (several times, in fact, even though I never asked her opinion). I don't know on what planet a hairdresser thinks she's a doctor, but Ms. Jessica is quite full of herself for no reason I can see. Fourth, she only allocated 15 mins each for our haircuts which is not nearly enough time to provide a quality cut with quality service (and, believe me, she did not provide either). Lastly (and this really ticks me off), she has somehow rejected any reviews submitted by my mother or me via Vagaro where I booked our appointments. I am in touch with Vagaro to get my mother's negative review reinstated and I will be posting a negative review on that site myself. I suspect Ms. Jessica has friends and family provide positive reviews and has negative reviews removed, leaving a very inaccurate assessment of her establishment. DO NOT waste your money on this place - terrible haircuts (we actually have to pay someone more to fix our hair now, thanks for that), crappy management attitude, and even worse ambience. Jessica doesn't give you badass hair....it's just plain bad hair! Don't waste your money here, go see a professional who knows what they're doing - you'll thank me later!
