I had a terrible cut from Brianna who apparently is a "level 3" stylist. My hair was uneven, and my self confidence sunk. I had to wait to have it cut again, and although this studio reached out to re-cut my hair, I am so glad I didn't. I went with a master stylist at another salon. It wasn't all in my head, this cut had big issues, and it really was uneven and left heavy in spots and cut too much in others. More had to be trimmed to make my hair look better, and although my hair grows slowly, I am on the mend and have found my new salon.....and will never recommend, or visit, studio 51 again. read more

Where do I even start, my hair is awful. I liked it better before my appointment. I wanted natural looking highlights with a little bit of pop around my face. I had a level 3 stylist and expected the outcome to be decent at the least. My highlights are not blended at all, I have a head full of harsh lines. It was so bad in fact I had to go back in for a redo. The redo helped, but it is still not what I was wanting. I had very reasonable and realistic expectations and thought I was on the same page with my stylist, but that was not at all true unfortunately. The haircut also had random chunks of long pieces of hair poking out all over everytime I move my head! YIKES. NEVER GOING BACK HERE. read more

Recently my hair stylist of 42 years retired and I was panic struck. My hair is resistant to perming, so, because of this it takes a very experienced stylist to get a good result. I called around to different places and then found Studio 51. I had Sarah, as she was very experienced perming hair. Well, I couldn't be happier. She was excellent, friendly, knowledgable about hair cuts and hair care etc. The salon was so pretty and clean inside and all the staff were friendly and courteous. I hate leaving a less than amazing review, but my experience left me feeling intentionally disregarded and upset for months whenever I think about my hair. I used to go to Studio 51 years ago. I had moved and I normally cut and colored my own hair, so I wasn't going to a salon for a while. I had just had a baby and was making self care a goal. I wanted to go somewhere I trusted and establish a stylist for timely services going forward. It was more of drive than I wanted, but I had really enjoyed the salon in the past, so the travel was worth it, I thought. I went in for a cut. Waited 30 mins after my appointment time to begin my cut. I understood, was totally fine waiting. I was just excited to get a haircut, like super excited because no one else had cut my hair in about 10 years. The atmosphere was okay, the receptionist was the most friendly of the staff. Brianna did a decent cut and I was satisfied enough, though planned to tweak my request for future cuts. I had told her that I badly badly wanted to get my hair color corrected. I had had Overtone in it about 2.5 years before that and had left the color to fade and it had been growing out in an ombré. I wanted an update asap for my self esteem. I had an event in about a month's time and I wanted to get back to my natural color and feel like me again, especially after having a baby. She cut a chunk of my hair out from the lower half of my head and said that she would be doing a strip test in the morning and would call me as soon as possible so I could get on the schedule for color. She said it should be easy to bleach and no problem. I was super excited. A week went by and no call. I then left a voicemail asking for a call back (even to tell me if they hadn't done the test yet or lost my hair sample or something), and no response. I felt completely ignored and like a number. You never want a customer feeling like that. I have since found a great stylist who makes me feel seen and appreciates my business. I won't be returning to Studio 51 or referring my clients. read more

She gave me a thorough consult, made sure I was happy with the decision we made, and cut my hair exactly how we had talked about. She was very friendly and upbeat. I was not pushed to buy products, but willingly chose 2 items (shampoo/conditioner) from pureology. This particular line is a bit pricier than other products, but Brianna explained which products would work for my hair. She answered all my questions and explained thoroughly how to use the products. My mother 96, got a perm and cut and was charged $156.00. They didn't even comb it out. I called to see why the cost was so high and was given a pitiful response. They don't post the prices because it depends on the experience of the attendant. I have been taking my mother to get her hair done for a long time and have never been so taken back by the situation. Kelsey was AMAZING and showed me tips on how to bring out (and appreciate) the natural curls in my hair. I was just about ready to get a partial foil or highlights to embrace the graying of my hair but she said that if that is the route I'm taking then to wait longer to see how it will grow out because I still have very little and it will take a toll on the hair and the curls if we color my hair prematurely. Now that is a stylist I want working on my hair because she truly care about what I want for my hair and my ultimate goal. My hair feels SOOOO much lighter and is more manageable!! read more

I'm torn between giving this place a 1 star or a 2 star. I wanted to like this place but my hairdresser Lorraine was rude, rough and beyond unprofessional. First, there was a mixup with my appointment time and the scheduler sent me the wrong time when she emailed me my appointment. She was between two hair dressers when I emailed her and one had a 11:45am and the other had a 12pm. After telling her about my hair as requested she said she would set me up with Lorraine at 12pm and I confirmed that work. Unfortunately it was Lorraine who had the 11:45am not 12pm and the scheduler wrote me in on her books at 11:45am. So long story short, I was 15 minutes late. Honest mistake so I wasn't upset that it had happened and I even offered to just cancel my appointment so that Lorraine wouldn't be rushed or get behind with her next client but Lorraine said it would be fine since I just needed a trim. First, I am in no ways a tender head. I have never had any hairdresser come close to hurting me even when they accidentally hit a knot in my hair, etc. Well Lorraine is the first. Washing my hair she was obviously rushing and her nails dug into my scalp so bad that when she rinsed my scalp actually burned a little. So Ok, not the best start but I kept quiet thinking it's OK she is just feeling stressed and will hopefully calm down once she starts cutting.....nope! She dug her comb into my scalp, flipped my hair into my eyes more times I can count cause she was in such a hurry and ripped my earring out of the top of my ear with her comb. Up until ripping my earring out of my ear with the comb, Lorraine didn't bother to even try and create small talk she just scowled and ripped through my hair. She did make sure my ear wasn't bleeding though and that I was ok. Then she continued with the digging of the comb and flipping of the hair into my eyes. I then asked for bangs and layers throughout which I didn't get the layers in the back like I asked just more of a tapering and had to argue with her to get short bangs. She just wanted to style my hair like hers I guess and then once I got her to cut them she responded with "oh I guess you can pull off bangs". The salon overall is very nice and clean. The other hairdressers seemed nice and seemed to treat their clients well. IF I do have to go back, I most certainly not let Lorraine touch my hair again. read more

Edit: My stylist, Amanda passed away suddenly. I now see Mila and recommend her. Mila can work with my thick, natural wavy hair and turn it into curls. So, I finally decided that I'd had enough with Hair Masters and the like and chose to go here for a haircut. Yes, Studio 51 is a bit more pricey than my cheap a** likes to spend on a hair cut, BUT they are sooo worth it! The ambiance of the place is great. It's clean and smells fresh...not stinky like chemicals. Rachel was the one that did my hair and was very friendly and patient. I have curly hair and can't tell you how many times I go in for a certain cut and leave with something completely different. This time I arrived with a couple pics via my phone. She did exactly what I wanted and gave me lots of helpful hints to maximize my curl potential. Overall, I spent 40 bucks on a haircut, but I feel amazing and love the cut. I chose Studio 51 for the overwhelming positive reviews I found on Yelp and other sites. I called for an appointment and they fit me in that day due to a cancellation, I was ecstatic that they had the open appointment. The studio itself is clean and professional looking, the receptionist was incredibly nice and my stylist was nice as well. I brought in a picture for inspiration of the style of haircut I was looking for, showed her the length I wanted and other guidelines (I wanted it to be long enough so I would be able to put it up). I expressed concern for going too short since my hair was so long and she reassured me that it wasn't going to be too short. As we continued the consultation she mentioned inverting the haircut, which is when I said I didn't want it inverted and a second stylist listening in agreed that inverting the cut isn't the best choice. She began the haircut in the back so I couldn't see how short she was going, little did I know that the shoulder length hair I was desiring was going to be just below my chin. The haircut itself wasn't a bad cut, it was nicely done. However, this was not what I wanted and not what I thought I clearly explained. My hair was way to short to be able to be pulled back, it was almost three inches above my shoulder where I requested it to be and the cut was inverted like I said I didn't want. I understand a stylist having a vision for a clients hair when she says she wants to go shorter but the blatant disregard for what the client wants is not okay in my opinion. I will not be going back to Studio 51 and now have to deal with my incredibly short hair until it grows out. read more

I went to Studio 51 after another salon screwed up my color. The staff there worked as a team to discuss how best to fix my color and achieve the look I was going for. Amanda suggested the best method to lighten my overall look without causing significant damage to my hair. She even fit me in within the next few days. I was so pleased with the job Amanda did. Milla was the "stylist" who permed my hair. I came with a picture and told her what I wanted. She kept asking someone else, the owner, I think, what to do. On that person's advice she removed the rollers way to early for a good perm to set in. I left there $125 poorer with nothing even close to what I had asked her to do. Over 1 month later my hair has little curl and no style. If you choose this salon go with one of the experienced stylist or you will leave there with nothing but less $$. read more
