Overall an amazing Brazilian jiujitsu academy for all ages. Professor Dustin and Professor Matt have created such a welcoming and family oriented environment. The 5:30 am class has been invaluable for me to continue my own BJJ training journey. Also, the patience and care the coaches take for all the kids classes is great. They have a good balance of pushing the kids and making classes fun. My 10 year old daughter was nervous starting but they integrated her in patiently, slowly, and very well. Now she loves going to every class. read more

I can't say enough great things about this Jiu Jitsu studio! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed into this amazing community, and it's been nothing but an amazing experience since then. The coaches here are absolutely top-notch and THE BEST mentors for our kids. They take the time to teach the techniques, but more importantly, they instill life lessons that go beyond the mat. My kids are learning how to work hard, stay disciplined, and most importantly, build character. It's a perfect blend of teaching them to be both physically and mentally strong, and I love that they are being taught the value of grit, persistence, and respect. As a parent, it's such a joy to see my three daughters thrive in this environment. The balance of having both boys and girls in the classes really benefits them. They get to see other girls excelling and are inspired by them, but are also challenged by the boys in a way that pushes them to grow. The girls here are tough, strong, supportive, fun, & kind...and we hope to continue building an incredible sense of camaraderie and friendship that makes training even more fun. Watching my daughters gain confidence, improve their skills, and make last friendships has been one of the most rewarding experiences. This isn't just about Jiu Jitsu, it's about shaping the kids into well-rounded, productive individuals who are prepared to take on life's challenges with a positive mindset. I'm so grateful for the coaches, the family-oriented atmosphere, and the incredible community they've created. If you're looking for a place where your child can learn self-defense, stay active, and develop life skills while having a blast, this is the place to be! read more

It's been 1.5 years of our family being with this studio and we are still loving it. I wanted to update our review to give more input on any kiddos who may want to start competing in tournaments. My children are grey/white belts now and competed in about 10 tournaments last year while they were white belts. Their coaches Professor Dustin & Professor Matt really supported them. The coaches are all very supportive of whatever your competition goals are- they don't push them but will support you if you want it. My kids love Friday Competition Class which is open for any kids who are interested in getting Competition Ready. We have a competition board where we will write down upcoming tournaments and the names of any kids or adults signed up. The families at this studio are all so welcoming and friendly. They are all willing to help and explain the competition culture and competition days are so much fun! The girls love competing because they all do matching braids, it's super cute. My husband also ended up joining Jiu Jitsu in the AM 530 classes and goes consistently 4-5x per week. He loves it for bonding with our children through the sport, for great exercise and he also started competing! He has done 5 competitions and is signed up for 3 more in the next coming years. If you are interested in joining a studio just to learn about the techniques/sport then this is a great studio to check out. If you are looking for a studio and have goals of competing then this is also a great local studio to check out! read more

My daughter and I have been training at Studio 33 since early 2023. The confidence, self-awareness as well as mental and physical fortitude that I've seen my daughter develop since starting here is something I will forever be grateful for to Professor Dustin. I truly believe that the mark of a successful business comes from its leaders and trickle down through its peers and out into the community. That is exactly what Studio 33 is. My daughter and I are bonded more closely than ever and are progressing in our skill set. We are both getting stronger, healthier and we have both gained meaningful friendships and relationships with like-minded people. In this studio, you will not just learn about the art of jujutsu, you will learn about the art of living, growing, enduring and flowing. read more

Studio 33 is the BEST. Just show up, and from day 1 you will be welcomed into a family. Our son has been practicing at Studio 33 for two years now, and we've seen how Coach Dustin and Coach Matt (along with all the other coaches there) take their time with him to help him become strong and confident, more focused and regulated both on and off the mat. They use jiujitsu to teach kids valuable lessons about life. The other families are so kind and we love seeing our kids grow together. It's also a fantastic workout that teaches discipline, practice, and will help your children out in all areas of their health. We can't recommend this studio highly enough! read more

My son has now officially been training at Studio 33 for a year. The honeymoon stage is over and we still love this gym. We wanted our 8 year old son to try a sport outside of soccer and a sport that would challenge him and jiu jitsu has all those components and more. When searching for a gym we decided to give Studio 33 a try because of the great reviews, family atmosphere, and their one week free trial. From the moment we walked in Professor Dustin, Professor Matt, Professor Sammy and all the coaches made us feel like family. They focus on not only teaching the kids self defense but also life skills like hard work, discipline, battling adversity, and many more. My son wanted to quit so many times but we kept on showing up and after much dedication he just competed in his first tournament a couple weeks ago. It was such a proud moment for my son because he went from not wanting to go to practice to now challenging himself and trying something new. Going to practice every day is a wonderful experience and it has allowed my son to gain not only new friends but his self esteem is through the roof. Signing him up for jiu jitsu has been a great decision. In the words of Professor Dustin, just show up because we get better 1% every day. OSS read more

If you're looking for a solid group to learn and practice jiu jitsu with, Studio 33 is it. My daughter has been training here since 2022 and enjoys every minute of it. We've noticed a huge improvement in her mental fortitude and a tremendous boost in her self-confidence. The camaraderie and support at this gym are simply unmatched. Professor Dustin and Professor Matt (along with all the other coaches) genuinely care about their student's growth and development and always provide honest feedback. We are so proud to be a part of the Studio 33 family! All 4 of my kids train here, plus I just recently joined in on the fun. It's been a full year for my older 3, my youngest is about 3-4 months behind them, and I'm just starting out. Since day 1, we were welcomed with smiles and open arms. Everyone here is so friendly, welcoming, and supportive- from the coaches to the students to the parents/family members observing on the side. It's such a great family-friendly environment! Coaches Dustin and Matt are all around just genuinely good people. It's obvious they love what they do. The patience they have and the support they give in imparting their knowledge is motivating not only to the students but to observers as well. They make a continuous effort to know and engage with each student. I also appreciate the pep talks they give at the end of class. My husband and I have seen so much growth in skill and confidence in each one of our kids since they've started out. The added bonus is that we've all made new friends here. My personal experience, as a mom starting jiu-jitsu, has been amazing so far! My first adult class, I was a little nervous but was immediately greeted with friendly faces. Being new and one of the few females in class wasn't awkward at all. Everyone is so supportive of each other and you just feel the good energy. Plus, Coach Megan is great! Just like Coach Dustin and Coach Matt, she, too, is patient, supportive, inspiring, and genuinely nice. Her women's class on Saturday is also a must. Jiu-jitsu with some self-defense training sprinkled in - wow, what a workout! The camaraderie and atmosphere at Studio 33 are just amazing! We are so fortunate to have this gem in our neighborhood! read more

We first met Dustin at the YMCA. From the moment my son walked in to the studio Dustin made him feel welcome. We have so much respect and appreciate all the guidance he has given our son. I really have implemented many of the lessons he gives at the end of class in my own personal life. The studio is clean and the ambience is very family oriented. Can't wait to go back! read more

This is my son's first week at Studio 33 (he is 5 yr old) and so far he is loving it. As an observer to the practice and someone who has not had any experience with Marshal Arts, I love the way the classes are structured and the way the coach approaches the kids. Also, the kids in my son's class are very friendly and willing to help. My son feels really welcomed. Hoping this would be a long term journey for my boy at Studio 33! read more

Love this studio. Our family has been with Coach Dustin for years. When he made the jump to open his own gym there was no question that we would follow him. The kids thrive under his coaching. His kindness and structure is perfect. He expects a lot from the children and never forgets that they are kids allowing for silliness and fun in his instruction. Coach Dustin is one of the kindest, most encouraging, and supportive instructors. This studio provides a safe environment for my children, and a place where I find additional support from positive role models for my children during military deployments. read more

Family atmosphere, everyone is welcomed, all members nurture each other, support one another and encourage positivity. It is a place for personal growth, spiritual learning and tolerance. Diversity is abundant, cultural differences are abound, but everyone is one big happy family. No machismo, no testosterone flare ups, just a spoonful of humility. The Professors lead by example and are truly caring people to all. I strongly recommend this gym if your looking to better yourself and surround yourself with truly wonderful people! read more

I couldn't have enough good things to say about Studio 33. I began training in September so just at the beginning of my journey as a white belt, but I've been realizing how lucky I am to have landed here. The professors and coaches here are second to none. I've taken classes with Dustin, Matt, Sofia and Kalo and they all show great individual attention to the students who walk in to their classes and encourage and support you throughout. They watch your drills and your rolls and offer feedback throughout. I've seen all of them stay after to demonstrate techniques a student had questions about or walk through with them. The environment is fun, respectful and supportive, full of comradery. When I started I was one of only a handful of women attending some of the evening classes at the studio but that has not mattered. Everyone here has a mentor mentality- an attitude that isn't prevalent on the mat everywhere but it is here. That was probably the biggest factor that has made me want to stick with it and grow as a jiu jitsu practitioner! They push me to improve myself and my technique but are also patient and depending on the personality of the woman I have seen everyone adapt to different levels of comfort and ability. The gym is always clean and the mat space is great, you're not often bumping into anyone else. They have weekly open mats so even if you have friends training at other gyms they're encouraged to attend and help build the SD BJJ community together- iron sharpening iron. I come away from every class feeling like I got a good workout, I learned something new, I feel less stressed and want to keep getting better. A great place to be and would recommend to anyone. This martial arts school is a safe and clean environment to learn the art of Jiujitsu. The head instructor Dustin is an excellent teacher with many years of experience. He is the type of teacher who continues to learn himself and passes that knowledge on to his a students. There is a well rounded coaching philosophy at this gym where we practice Jiujitsu from the standing position and on the ground techniques. You will learn judo and wrestling takedowns, and an encyclopedia of ground fighting techniques. Coach Matt is a black belt that teaches many classes at this school as well, and he is many years of experience as well. He teaches many great techniques and ensures his students are physically fit and mentally tough. I am blessed to be a part of this community. I recommend for both kids and adults. My son has been training here for over a year now. My son has learned so much on and off the mats while training here. He's learning about discipline, respect, and of course technique. read more

Outstanding place to learn bjj. The instructors are friendly, professional and make commendable efforts to get to know students to ensure that the jiu jitsu journey is tailored to the individual learning style. This is my 2nd bjj school and I am definitely staying for the long term. My family is now enrolled, as the instructors have created a great family atmosphere to include kids and women. The location is central and nearby freeways is a bonus. The actual facility is a bit difficult to find, so a few more signs could be helpful. But, the nearby restaurants in the strip mall, which include Hans and Harry's, Starbucks, etc., are great for an after workout visit. Much thanks to coaches Dustin, Kale and Sauce for their patience and commitment to teaching the "arte suave." OSS read more
