Unfortunately, the car rental center is not inside the main terminal, so you do have to take a shuttle to the rental car area, which is about a 10-minute ride. When we landed, there was a long line, and it took us about 10-15 minutes to make the queue for the shuttle. Once we got to the rental car center, customer service was great. We had already checked in online and had our own insurance, so the process was pretty smooth. The customer service rep was really nice and even cracked some funny jokes. A few minutes later, we were in our car a white Mustang convertible in great shape and very clean. The only thing I wish they had done was give us a quick demo on how to close and lock the top, because we couldn't figure it out at first and had to watch a YouTube tutorial. Returning the vehicle was a breeze, and I got an email receipt within minutes. Overall, a smooth rental experience and a good choice for our San Diego trip!

There was no line at the counter and service was efficient on a Saturday around noon. When we got to the garage, staff even let us choose our preferred vehicle. We opted for a BMW SUV. Though fancier than we needed, it was a clean and comfortable ride without any issues for the two days we had the vehicle. Returning was quick and easy too.

When an offense repeats itself this often, it isn't misfortune. It's policy. We are the people who pay, and the consumer deserves better. We ask for little: good service, an honest price, and the dignity of knowing what we owe before it's taken from us. A line was crossed. Here is my account, one among many. I booked through Costco at a quoted price of $230. I was charged $580. Between those two numbers lies the whole story. They offered me "skip the counter" pickup, and it sounded like convenience. Somewhere in that digital process sat a checkbox for insurance, its cost concealed, its consequence buried. The counter was not the only thing skipped. So was my right to know what I was paying. The pickup was smooth. The car ran fine, though it was not the car I requested. But smooth is what a trap feels like right up until it closes. Then came the charge, over $500 in surprise, discovered on my card mid-vacation. I spent my own holiday on the phone pleading my case. The problem was acknowledged. The remedy offered was a rebate on "something," unnamed and undocumented, and I suspect I'll be the one chasing the paperwork. So let this stand as a warning to every traveler who comes after: study every checkbox before you click confirm, or prepare to be suckered as we were. They are counting on your trust. Make them earn it instead. There is no shortage of companies begging for our business. Budget and Avis will no longer have ours.

I received a different EV only to find out when I went to charge it, there was no adaptor. I had to go to a different budget location and swap for a gas car. They would not give me a car at the same level I paid for, rather they told me to take it up with corporate. I had to pay EXTRA to get a gas car that was not on the same level I paid for initial. Being someone who has rented from Budget multiple times, it disappoints me that they failed to accommodate a loyal customer who has used their service many times. For future reference, be sure to call them to make sure they have the car you reserve to prevent this situation from happening.

You bypass the line and go straight into the garage. I did check in with the lady that was out there. She let me know where my car was and that the keys were already in there. It was the quickest car rental I have ever experienced. This was my first time as a gold member. It is 1000% worth it. We got a Volvo SUV. It was a nice vehicle overall. I'm not a fan of the car in general after driving it but again nothing against Hertz. More so against Volvo. Returning the car was also super simple. There are people there to greet you when you pull in. Let you know to leave the keys on the dash when you were done and pointing me in the direction of the shuttle bus! Can't wait to rent with Hertz in the future!! (Forgot to take pics. Sorry)

So here I am to tell you my good experience to save you a little stress. I flew in on a Monday night. There is a free shuttle that takes you to all the rental cars. I travelled in my wheelchair (but I also have a prosthetic leg) and it was all accessible. Rolled right up to the counter and the original car was not available, but there was one a size up and they charged me the same price. Nice, newer Chevy Blazer and didn't have any damage. They also asked if I need hand controls, which I don't, but awesome that they have that option! Just be warned that once you get your vehicle, there is a pretty big line to get out of the garage. Have your drivers license and rental agreement ready and the process was quick once you got to the front booth. It took us about 30 minutes from showing up to the store to get on the road. Drop off was super easy as well and of course, there is also a shuttle to take you back to the airport.

I was supposed to have Executive Elite status through a status match though it hadn't gone through in time for this visit, though it ironically went through the week after renting from National Car Rental. We appreciated the easy transaction and picking out a car while speaking to few people. The car itself was great, too! When we arrived to the San Diego airport, we gathered our bags, headed outside baggage claim, and followed the signs to the Rental Car Center. Upon arriving there, we followed the signs past the National Car Rental area and went upstairs right to the National Car Rental kiosk, where someone checked our ID and credit card and then let us choose any vehicle in a designated area. We got a small SUV instead of an intermediate size car. The keys were in the car, and we were able to leave from there. The staff at the kiosk were very friendly and helpful. It was also easy to drop the vehicle back at the Rental Car Center after our rental was complete. We did notice that it might actually be the same price or less to have National Car Rental fill up our car by choosing that option in advance instead of us filling it up before returning the car. This particular location at the San Diego International Airport is open 24/7. It offers After Hours Returns, Drop & Go, and Emerald Aisle. You can read more about this location on the National Car Rental website at https://www.nationalcar.com/en/car-rental-locations/us/ca/san-diego-international-airport-324m.html. Also on the website, you can find deals and coupons, partner rewards programs, and solutions for businesses. You can also sign-up for e-mail specials. You can also join the Emerald Club for free, which is the general membership for their loyalty program. There are also higher tier levels for Executive and Executive Elite which you can read about on their website from how you can earn it and what benefits come with it. All in all, this was an easy rental experience, and I would consider renting from the National Car Rental in the future.

It was a decent wait for a vehicle when I arrived to pick up the car. The car wasn't quite ready, as it still needed to be cleaned / was at the car wash, which they said was about a 5 minute walk. While I was waiting, a number of customers came in and most were upset that the car they requested was not available. It seemed like they were short on cars and staff. Staff were friendly and helpful though. When returning, they mentioned they didn't have their shuttle available so I ended up taking a Lyft. Not the end of the world, but would've been nice to have the shuttle service.

Decent Rental, But Limited Options and Staff Shortage…read more We recently rented a vehicle from the Enterprise Car Rental located in Mission Valley, just off Interstate 163 and near Chuze Fitness. Our reservation was scheduled for 10:30 AM, and although we arrived slightly late around 10:45, the staff were actively assisting other customers with both pick-ups and returns. Despite the busy environment, the check-out process was relatively smooth. We were initially given a white Jeep, but unfortunately, it wouldn't start using the push-button ignition. The staff were notified, and while the vehicle was a hybrid (gas + electric), the fact that it wouldn't start at all made it unusable for our trip. We were then offered a Toyota Highlander, which was slightly smaller in trunk space but manageable. Before leaving, we noted minor dents, dings, and a small crack on the driver's side of the windshield near the wiper. Staff assured us these damages were documented and that we wouldn't be held responsible. The benefit of unlimited mileage allowed us to take the vehicle out of state to Arizona, which was great. However, once in Arizona, the dash displayed a maintenance message: "Vehicle requires maintenance, please see dealer." While it didn't impact the vehicle's performance, it was a concern, especially while traveling long distances in desert heat of 116 degrees. After looking it up, it seemed to be a routine 7,000-mile service notice, likely indicating an oil change was due or minor engine service--not ideal because you just really never know under the hood of a vehicle what issues may arise. Returning the car was a bit frustrating. With only one staff member working, we waited nearly 20 minutes just to be assisted with the return. Thankfully, the woman who helped us was friendly, apologetic for the wait, and reassured us we wouldn't be charged for the extra time. Overall, the experience was just okay. The vehicle functioned well enough, but the lack of available options, the initial vehicle issue, the dash warning, and the understaffed check-in/out process left a lot to be desired. Parking is also a hassle, as the lot is shared with several other businesses including a gym and insurance office, making space very limited. If this is your only option, it might do in a pinch--but don't expect a large SUV selection or swift service. 3 stars.
